Why are Talksport trying to Americanise football? 11:23 - Jan 27 with 3645 viewsloftboy

On top of their “Game day” instead of match day and “shut outs” instead of clean sheets, I’ve just had an email off them informing me that Man City and Arsenal are “facing off” doing my head in.

That aside it’ll be interesting to see if Etihad City Manchestershire and NorthSide Emirates London take this super bowl qualification clash seriously and field their pre-meer rosters.

I think it all started years ago when people started pronouncing schedule as SKEDule instead of SHEDule.

But it's not just in football, is it? I even heard a radio advert for motorcycle clothing which was extolling the virtues of the company's "pants". I should imagine they would prove a bit draughty when in use

My least favourite Americanism is "in the quarterback role". People playing association football are no more quarterbacks than the man between the sticks is a wicketkeeper. Grrr

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Yeah, why couldn't they just leave it as callifragilisticexpialidocious?

And music groups such as Tramp, Grass and Furry Animals.

Don't know if its still there as I now live in Cardiff, but there was a sign by the Fulham Palace Road entrance to Hammersmith Broadway that said: MacDonalds 50 meters.

Use to pïss me off no end.

To be fair, tomorrow's face off is one of the highlights of the semester so far.

Suffering since 1978.

Some are really quite common and used without people even realising, even relatively sane people on here at times, one example being dropping the 'on' in 'see you ON Saturday' - increasingly normal to say 'See you Saturday' it seems.

I've also noticed people starting to say that someone was really 'pissed' at someone instead of 'pissed OFF' - that's a really disturbing development.

The one crumb of comfort I'd offer to most is yes, they are happening, but if someone dropped you in the middle of Detroit at this moment there'd still be a pretty noticeable difference...

Having to endure endless betting ads featuring old saggy chops is reason enough for me to not tune into Talksport.

I like Simon Jordan but the cons outweight the pros.

Is it true that Trevor Sinclair is back on there?

I'm pretty sure language has always evolved right from the moment Humans learned to speak as cultures and influences interwined. I'm willing to bet that every generation has had this exact discussion. My Grandparents didn't speak like I do today and so fourth. My 8 year old says 'Bro" a lot because he hears in on bloody YouTube. I hate it but what can you do?

Caught him summarising at the end of a commentary the other night when driving home. The big thing that boils my p iss is allowing these cretins to grab the cricket commentaries away from TMS. Truly dreadful in the extreme.

Simon Jordan aside, who is probably the very best at having an insight of the English Leagues and how they work re FA/UEFA etc, the rest of it is tripe.

Their own Talksport adverts are nothing short of woeful and grovelingly patronising. To then frequently play one and remind everyone listening "how good they are / how funny they are".

The bon homie of the presenters frequently just grates. Quite why Jamie O Hara merits anyone listening to his ramblings is incomprehensible. By the sound of him you'd think he'd excelled at an International level for many seasons, the reality? Have a chat to any Wolverhampton supporter and see what they think of him....

Not aimed at you Loftboy In particular but you might wonder why people tune Into this daily drivel??
The last time I used this station was channel-hopping one morning on the way to work, all I could hear was Brasil and some nondescript cricketer (who's name escapes me) waffling on at each other trying desperately to be interesting and failing miserably, the only escape from their banal waffling was when an advert came on Informing me for the millionth time that I could purchase a 15L pot of f ucking white emulsion from some whorehouse of a builders merchant called Celco.

That was Years and years ago and I aint been back since.

There's a reason for that.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
