Hooliganism 23:24 - Feb 13 with 14812 viewsloftboy

I see Clive reported on a few QPR fans trying to get to the Millwall fans on the way to the ground, seen lots of videos from various places all over the country recently showing fights or attempted fights , there were middle aged blokes fighting teenagers at Plymouth v Pompey this week, Leeds and Forest the week before, not to mention that thick Chelsea fan getting knocked out at the weekend. So my question is, is the great English disease on the increase again?

Technology - there's certainly more people using phones to record and then post scuffles and posturing, that's for sure.

Today's hooligans have to be the most pathetic yet.
Nobody I know wants to avoid going to a game against Milwall.
Their pathetic posturing, their homeorotic fixation with opposition male supporters, is extremely entertaining.
You would need to have led a very sheltered life indeed, if you feel even slightly intimidated by those clowns.
I wouldn't have said that in the 70s and 80s, hooligans wouldn't have bothered with the posturing and pouting, they would have just steamed in as soon as you were clocked.

Was quite a distance from the Millwall fans in the ground but it felt like they were striking a much better balance. Plenty of singing, getting behind their team.

Up until a season or so back, it looked like they’d been choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood.

The thing I notice is it seems to be getting glorified again, certainly on the internets and social medias etc. And that just entices more idiots to try and appear hard. And thus it perpetuates etc...

Always amazed me how slow the police were at getting a handle on this.

It's not as if it's a heist orchestrated by a small gang of master criminals trying to go unnoticed in the wee hours. It was in the full glare of the public, usually conducted by the same faces and you could pretty much set you watch that it would happen between 2 and 6pm on a Saturday, and bet your mortgage that it would be in and around a football ground/train station. But despite these factors, it spread like wildfire.

Today, with modern surveillance technology and, wait for it, multiple filming of incidents and then uploading to social media, you'd think that it would make Plod's job even easier. Shirley?

Deffo seems to have come flooding back post lockdown. A lot of people seem to have used the scenes at the Euro final as an instruction manual

Craig Revel Horwood and now Shirley. This is turning into a Strictly thread.

On a serious note I actually believe this is slightly Covid related. Lots of yoot involved nowadays that I think got fed up being caged up for a couple of years. This was an immediate outlet.

the classic police dilemma , cannot stop crime anywhere so football fans "confined" to an area for many hours, gives easy nicks for anti social behaviour and gets their crime figures up. also with so much tech, even a minor verbals can end up on social media, so as someone suggested the media hype feeds it?
watching rugby the other day, seeing fans happily drinking beers in their seats and sitting next to fans of the other nation could show the way?
no stewards or police crowding in to remove you for the offence of wanting a warm pi55 poor beer!

There's a lot of c**ts in the world right now but also not many police, not enough court rooms and barely any space left in jails.

So people are emboldened now and ready to fk shit up.

Cameron's Britain innit, fam?

Just for even handedness…

While I saw those idiots too and football arrests went up last season, they are actually quite rare. I think they are just concentrated and obvious.

33 million people watched live football last season but there were only 2,800 arrests. No consolation for innocent victims granted, but I wouldn’t entertain ideas of ID cards and registers yet.

I live not far from Twickers and in our local FB group it's been mentioned that the one main problem of this is people constantly getting up to get another drink, come back, go to the toilet, come back, get another drink, come back, go to the toilet, come back......

It was , almost every game there would be an attempt by away fans to take over the home end resulting in running battles on the terraces . A small pocket would gather at the edge of the end and then just steam in, fans would wait outside and ambush and steal opposing fans scarves as a badge of honour .

My Dad was a Rangers fan but took me to see Spurs v Man Utd so I could see Best Charlton Law etc , a guy was stabbed about 20 feet behind me, St Johns took him away , the game just carried on ...

I'm not sure I'd class the boys I saw on Saturday, giving it the biggun behind lines of police or to people in cars, and then melting like fcking ice cream as soon as one bloke gets out the car and says "come on then let's go" as hooliganism of any sort.

It makes one worried about where the next generation of hooligans will come from.

In addition, attendances are on the rise and in aggregate are about 10% higher than a decade ago. The incidence of arrests is only up significantly on the years immediately before Covid.

Same at Hull the other week. Very, very brave from behind a line of stewards, a line of police, a block of seats, and a mesh fence.

Pissing and / or drinking beer both activities preferable to actually having to watch Rugby Union?

The majority of these 30 odd year old pricks get a right old telling off from their Mums when they get home then they get sent to bed early without any supper.

Lots of people in the UK are skint, stressed, angry, and are being told to look over their shoulder all the time.

Some of us drink, some of us rant on Twitter, some of us burn down asylum seeker centres, some of us bash fck out of each other at the football.
