I love betting etymology. I love all etymology. A carpet is 3/1 cos it should take an inmate 3 months to weave a carpet for their own cell. So a double carpet would be 6/1. Of course it wouldn’t you tart. A double carpet is 33/1. [Post edited 30 Apr 23:05]

I'm reminded of a game there years ago, when a load of us piled down from Manchester and were sat in the seats right next to their fans.
IIRC, with about 10 mins to go, QPR scored to make it 4-1, when suddenly one of our chaps squeals with even more delight, but with some angst. He's only put money on us to win, 4-1!!
For the remainder of the game, everytime the ball leaves the middle third of the park and heads goalmouth, both a large number of us and a fair few Town fans are shouting for their respective team, not to score!!!
At the end, with Nick getting 100/1 odds, he was generously applauded by both sets of fans.
Moral of the story: you just never know what the W12 lot will do or when they're going to do it! |  |
