| Paraguay on 00:49 - Jul 5 with 4408 views | numptydumpty | Couldn't see anything wrong in what they did tbh. They knew in a game of skill and technique France annihilate them. They played rough and tumble and pen apart, could have easily taken the game to spot kicks. The fact the ref got everything wrong meant they continued with trying to wind up the French at every opportunity and hack them on all occasions. It was their only chance of progressing and thats what is the goal. If Rangers played Manchester City / United, Liverpool / Chelsea / Arsenal in a cup game - appreciate the irony - but if we took that game seriously and got at their team from minute one in a similar way and managed to progress likewise, who would say they hated the way we played and would have preferred if we could have tried to outplay / outclass them, but lost gallantly. That's the scenario. I enjoyed watching the battle tbf. [Post edited 5 Jul 0:52]

| Paraguay on 01:03 - Jul 5 with 4365 views | CLAREMAN1995 | Just saw a clip on UTube after the whistle blew Mbappe was screaming and flexing at the French fans this keeper offered his hand but Mbappe did not see/ ignored him . Then the Keeper threw the ball and struck him right in the middle of his back ,did not see how Mbappe reacted it was kicking off further up the field Just a fitting way for this shambles to end.Hopefully no serious injuries to France it was just not right . They should have put on Matetta to kick a few Paraguay boys up in the air IMO | | | |
| Paraguay on 03:00 - Jul 5 with 4305 views | HAYESBOY | Horrible team to watch. Anti football. Trying to injure players and start fights. If that's the kind of football you like to watch, fair play to you. As for the ref. The weakest ref I have ever seen. Should not ref another game in this World Cup. Not a fan of the French team, but at least football won. | |

| Paraguay on 05:01 - Jul 5 with 4234 views | jtuck | On the Fox live coverage of the game here in the USA, Dr Joe Machnick, the FIFA-friendly refereeing analyst said that World Cup refs have been told to ignore fouls in the pursuit of 'game flow'. That's been very clear from watching the games. The Uzbek ref followed those orders in a dreadful display where he booked 3 French players and unbelievably none from Paraguay. He had no control and let the dark arts flourish. FIFA's policy of letting some fouls go is dangerous and will eventually increase the danger of serious injuries. Also, this policy has not been publicly announced by FIFA or debated by anyone as far as I am aware. While it has helped the spectacle and cut down play-acting and feigning injury in many games, the downside of it was shown in France v Paraguay. In the earlier game, Canada v Morocco, Michael Oliver dished out 7 yellow cards in a very Premier League style ref performance. Don't think it was a dirtier game. Finally, did not agree with BBC Sport headline characterizing the game this way: "France survive Paraguay's 'disgraceful' and 'embarrassing' dark arts". What are Paraguay supposed to do? Just let King Kylian and his teammates run all over them? That's why you need strong refs and consistent enforcement, not unannounced, covert guidance to referees to turn a blind eye to certain offences. | |

It's like Paraguay have been constantly robbing a shop - yes the judge or police should deal with it but surely main blame should sit with the culprit

You adapt to the referee. How many times have we said Rangers were naive as Preston/Millwall/whoever realised a ref had lost the game or the opposite where we can see he’s hot on a particular issue and we haven’t wised up to it? Paraguay adapted to the ref not booking them. They’re also one of the few countries who have that performance in them in 2026. A bit niggly and occasionally went too far albeit with theatrics from the French but was it really that awful? Not that long ago it wouldn’t have been abnormal at Plough Lane on a random Saturday. Diving and feigning injury has become a scourge on the game and for me, ruined the spectacle, along with the advent of VAR. I can understand the directive for referees to allow the game to flow more, but to simply ignore the blatant aggressive intimidation by the Paraguay players was a total dereliction of duty by the referee to manage the game correctly. Unless we stamp out the diving element and the rolling around following minimal contact, this nonsense will continue. The game I once loved has become a chore to now watch. Last nights game was a farce and did not represent the values that football at this level should represent. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Paraguay on 08:51 - Jul 5 with 3852 views | Malintabuk | Pele was kicked out of the world cup in 1966, first by Bulgaria and then Portugal and the 58, and 62 winners never qualified from the group stages Remember as a young boy the outcry of that, and why the card system was introduced in 70 And here we are 60 years later talking about another team literally trying to kick foul or cheat their way to level the playing field FIFA again IMO have got this wrong... as said above, if the game is left to flow when fouls are being left unpunished... then eventually a player could have a career ending injury... At the end Deschamps reminded me of dear old Alf Ramsey pulling our player away from shaking hands with the Argentina team ... 60 years ago Wonder in hindsight what FIFA will think of their decision to allow "the game to flow" | | | |
| Paraguay on 08:58 - Jul 5 with 3825 views | Paddyhoops | No bookings for Paraguay which was quite astonishing really . Last time I seen a team that cynical was Uruguay who played Scotland in Mexico 86 . I like the way referees have let the game flow in this World Cup but this was different level . The foul on Rabiot just before half time that didn’t warrant a card was just farcical. He literally cleaned him out. Fair play to the French who weren’t having any of it . As for the ex Paraguay goalkeepers comments about France Bering “a team from Africa” Christ on a bike . Have we gone back there? | | | |
| Paraguay on 08:59 - Jul 5 with 3818 views | Gus_iom | If I heard pre-match that one of the teams were going to try to injure opposition players and start fights, I'm 100% watching that match. What would you rather watch, a film about some gallic blokes poncing about doing little tricks occasionally and falling over a lot, or Die Vengence Kill Hard? Every world cup needs a South American team to kick people, its the world cup's inheritance. I'm actually surprised at the amount of cultural insensitivity going on here. Viva le difference, as they sayish in France. | |

QPR played a game not to dissimilar against Stoke last season, but IIRC most of us said it was a disgrace to play that way. I do agree with you though, that the main culprit was the ref who allowed them to get away with it. He did of course book Barcola early in the 1st half, for what in essence was a very soft foul. He then allowed a string of fouls , namely by Gazarla, to go unpunished. In the earlier match, Michael Oliver issued 6 first half yellow cards and the 2nd half was a much calmer and cleaner game. The Uzbek ref was out of his depth and should be sent packing today.
| Paraguay on 12:16 - Jul 5 with 3450 views | Boston | My recollection is that this kind of play was fairly common from some South American teams back in the day. | |

| Paraguay on 12:58 - Jul 5 with 3349 views | SydneyRs | Can understand why Paraguay would play like they did, but I'd never watch football again if it was always like that. They're going to try it on, the ref needs to deal with it. Start carding people. He was pathetic. VAR captured a lot of it, nothing was done. The nonsense around the penalty, no cards. Ridiculous. When the Paraguay player got sent off for the hand over mouth thing the other day it was brilliant. More of that, stamp out this nonsense. | | | |
| Paraguay on 13:16 - Jul 5 with 3301 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | Disgusting way to approach the game and I'm amazed they had no one sent off. Old school Soth American cynical play, rough stuff off the ball and then rolling around like they had been shot in a fair 50/50 challenge. | |

| Paraguay on 13:52 - Jul 5 with 3203 views | Paddyhoops | Cape Verde who were outstanding knew they were far less superior to the majority of teams they played against but didn’t resort to horrible tactics Paraguay undertook last night . Mpabbe laughing his bollox of at them was brilliant though . He knew they didn’t poccess an iota of the talent he has and the frustration on their faces was a joy to see. | | | |

| Paraguay on 17:48 - Jul 5 with 2827 views | Match82 | Argentinian buddy of mine called it before the game, said Paraguay were by far the dirtiest team in South America and would just try and shthouse their way through the game. That Galarzo, blimey. Would happily never watch him play a game of football again, spent half of his time trying to hurt the French and the other half pretending they had killed him to death. | | | |
| Paraguay on 01:02 - Jul 6 with 2523 views | Wegerles_Stairs | It always pisses me off when Rangers play someone and the ref keeps his cards in his pocket despite repeated fouls. A yellow card is a deterrent; if you do it again, you could be off. That ref was shocking - didn't even spot the penalty either. | | | |
