| Bayeux Tapestry on 18:39 - Sep 30 with 1231 views | MedwayR | From what I’ve heard it’s basically just a long continuous queue due to staggered entrance times, but always moving so no free for all, all quite civilised I’d imagine! [Post edited 30 Sep 18:39]

Groan…..I went to see it on a school trip to St Malo. Amazing what reform schools were like back then.
| Bayeux Tapestry on 20:51 - Sep 30 with 914 views | CiderwithRsie | I'm planning to go in the New Year. I did hear at second hand that the timed tickets weren't working very well - = apparently the crowd was 5 deep so everyone was waiting to get to the front to be able to see, which in turn meant that the flow was incredibly slow and they had to queue for a couple of hours despite having a time slot. Hopefully the BM will have addressed this. Incidentally there is a full sized fake copy in err, Reading (no, honestly). https://www.readingmuseum.org. | | | |

Crazy how difficult it is to see here. For the last 50+ years anyone could pop over to Bayeux and see it. No crowds and no queues .imagine that will be the same once it goes back to Normandy
| Bayeux Tapestry on 23:16 - Sep 30 with 747 views | R_from_afar | I saw it in France while doing my modern languages degree, I thought it was tremendous. A few months later, by chance, I ended up living a few hundred metres from another massive and impressive tapestry, The Apocalypse Tapestry. It is displayed in the chateau at Angers, in the Loire Valley: https://www.destination-angers | |

| Bayeux Tapestry on 06:59 - Oct 1 with 537 views | HantsR | The main reason for a visit is surely to count the number of penis depicted. Some say 93? | | | |
| Bayeux Tapestry on 09:14 - Oct 1 with 402 views | johann28 | I've seen it in France, but forked out the £33 anyway - you get about 40 minutes, so whether or not this is good value is very much a matter of opinion. The main queue took about 25 minutes, then I joined the long line of about 100 visitors shuffling along. Every two minutes an announcement urges people to “keep moving” and whilst museum staff were helpful and welcoming, they were firm when it came to moving people on. The lighting is dim but not suffocatingly so, and there's some god-awful 'mood music' occasionally enlivened by pointless sound effects (wood being chopped for instance). Another series of screens stretch the length of the tapestry and offer colloquial translations of its Latin captions, which move along its length in a way intended to keep crowds moving in tandem – you could spend days looking at every weird little detail but obviously impossible here. It's also very light on context for a BM show: it could have dug far deeper into the historical background of England and Normandy in the 11th century, and I’d have liked some more nuts and bolts stuff about the tapestry itself: I don’t exactly understand how it has come to be preserved so remarkably. But I suspect that it’s intentionally quite a slick, frictionless experience to stop audiences getting bogged down. And keeping the focus on the tapestry itself maybe makes sense: it’s one of the most famous objects ever and it’s fkg enormous – so drink the whole thing in and do the reading after I guess. | | | |

| Bayeux Tapestry on 10:14 - Oct 1 with 328 views | Wegerles_Stairs | We went on Sunday. Before you go in they say you will only be in there for 40 minutes but we stayed for nearly two hours (including queuing). The staff continually tell people to keep moving, fill any gaps, etc. but people generally ignore them and go at their own pace. We definitely had enough time to see every panel properly. They have designed it really well inside and the atmosphere, videos and way in which it is presented is great. Fortunately, they have prohibited photographs but inevitably there was one idiot who was still taking photographs before we got to the main tapestry. Unfortunately, they didn't taser them. | | | |
| Bayeux Tapestry on 15:42 - Oct 1 with 188 views | Wegerles_Stairs | I should add the experience of the queuing, etc. probably depends on what time/day you are going - I saw on Twitter that they turned people with tickets away yesterday because of a private function, which seems pretty mad, but it was probably someone important like the Man City chairman or the Joker. We were taken in at the time we were allocated (1.20pm) but definitely didn't get to the actual tapestry until at least 2pm - during that time we saw the introductory videos and then queued for a while inside as people were already viewing the tapestry. One final thing - the staff say you can overtake people and then go back and see bits you have missed but this is patently untrue and no one took it on board. Just keep shuffling along. We were fortunate to be behind two people who were going quite slowly so we could just blame them for our slovenly pace. The exhibition book is great too as it allows you to pore over the extra detail and historical context afterwards in your own time. [Post edited 1 Oct 15:50]

| Bayeux Tapestry on 16:00 - Oct 1 with 110 views | NorthantsHoop | Went on Tuesday in the 4.30pm slot, great experience, they have it well organised you file past it one at a time, you get around 40 minutes and do the tapestry shuffle. Was concerned beforehand it would be 5 deep but no you get up and close in a single row and move along the 70 metres of the tapestry. No filming or photos allowed, but you won't need to, you just get immersed in it. [Post edited 1 Oct 16:03]
