We don’t have the worst cup record in England. I hear this so often and it’s not correct.
For example, 23 clubs have won the League Cup and we are one of them. That means there’s probably over a hundred League clubs that haven’t.
57 clubs (including defunct ones plus Queens Park who were eligible until 1887) have appeared in the FA Cup final. We are one of them. That means there are also over a hundred (I’m including mainly professional clubs who are most likely to appear) clubs who have never appeared.
So, no, we don’t have the worst cup record.
And yes, we can mock them as much as we like regardless of our own position.

Totally disagree. Will always enjoy any failure by them, now more than ever.
Everything they have was bought, first by Harding and then Abramovich and his dirty money. The media lapped it up too. They are still desperately throwing money at their problems now.
The difference is that from 2003 they were able to outbid everyone for players and were hugely responsible for starting the road towards the ridiculous transfer market we see today. Now there are several other clubs just as cashed up so it isn't so easy for them to just buy trophies.
They won't make the champions league this season and if they miss out for a few seasons will hopefully go back to being in mid table and occasionally fighting relegation where they belong.
I remember going to a game at Burnley years ago when they were in the 4th division and Blackburn were buying success. The home fans were singing about how much they hate Blackburn as its a long standing local rivalry. As others have already pointed out we don't have the worst cup record in England. It is better than Fulham, Brentford, Reading , Swansea & many others.
What we do have is the worst record for defeats in the third round of the FA Cup. A completely different matter!
You are correct, of course, that we've only won one major trophy & The Pensioners have won more than that. That makes any decline they suffer as even more enjoyable!

I don't know off the top of my head but it has been pointed out by others than when 3rd round exits are talked about, how many of them are the first game we've played and how many of them were as a result of winning rounds 1 and 2 first.
If people want to get frothy about it then I guess it shouldn't really be measured against the 3rd round but how many FA Cup games have we lost at the first attempt, including one season when we forgot to enter!

We can boast a proud FA Cup record we share with only 7 other clubs...unbeaten in semi-finals! We're up there with Coventry and Bradford, one behind Bury and Charlton, two behind Blackpool. three behind the Royal Engineers. I doubt I'll live long enough to see us beat the Old Etonians' six, though.

I've just consulted Gordon Macey & I counted 18 times. Add the 4 exits in the 3rd round when we were in the 2nd division 48-52 & we arrive at 22 exits prior to the 67/68 season.
That leaves 29 out of 52 exits since then. An awful record, but we have more wins than I realised! | | | |

Spot on Sydney. Harding/Bates spending money they didn't really have just like late 90s/early 2000s Leeds. They were £100m in debt and days from going under. It was only beating Liverpool in their last game in 2003 and qualifying for the CL that made Abramovich buy them.
Without Abramovich's dirty money they would have carried on being midtable with an occasional top 6 flirtation just like when we were finishing above them for 16 out of 23 seasons from the early 70s to the mid 90s. |  |

The Harding funded period has been conveniently airbrushed from history by some. You'll regularly see Chelsea fans arguing they were already winning things (to a much lesser degree) before Abramovich as if this was done without significant financial help.
