Its not retirement age , its state pension age .
Put money away for your pension as early as possible , take an interest in where its invested and its performance . Learn a little of investing and if you are younger , take a little risk . if someone runs it for you , ask questions . Look at it as saving for the longest holiday ever, or if you paff out leaving your loved ones comfortable .
Live modestly in retirement and you can pack up , or at least just do a couple of days when you choose ... not a bunch of politicians |  | | |

Can’t imagine how we would manage in this country if it was lowered to the French retirement age.
Mate of mine recently retired as a civil servant at 60 .
Cracking pension .
I jokingly said to him . Just as well I’m working another 8 years to subsidise it. He wasn’t impressed.
Advances in medical science means we’re all living longer.
That takes money supplied by taxpayers . Surely the same model applies to the French .
I would much to prefer to retire at 65 and I’m sure with a fairer system where the wealth is shared out a bit more it could happen but I can’t see that happening any time soon. | | | |

The public sector pensions are a problem. Some working in this sphere will retire at 50, and be retired, and taking out, for a long time. The IOM has, per head of population, a massive public sector, their paid-in pension pot is running dry (It has a shortfall of billions on a population of 85000), and is being topped up by normal working people, many of whom can't afford a pension other then the meagre state one, for which they are having to work longer to receive. | | | |

I have a certain admiration for the French . The spirit of the revolution and all that but the days of the 5 hour lunches are a thing of the past now.
Living longer means working longer.
Have to say the private sector do get a raw deal and it is a bit galling when somebody called “Steve” introduces himself on Pointless as a retired 54 year old police officer who plays golf a lot while I ponder another day of Arthritis in my hands from years of plastering.
