| Smyth on 08:23 - Nov 6 with 4285 views | Jimboqpr | I don't blame him. I thought he was having a pretty good game, especially defensively. Dembele came on and totally lost Scienza for the 2nd goal within 10 mins of coming on. Hopefully Smyth did calm down and come back. | | | |
| Smyth on 08:35 - Nov 6 with 4195 views | hoopstar67 | Yeah he always seems to be taken off and Dembele was definitely at fault. I think Smyth would have taken him out and took the yellow card. Dembele avoided the foul. | | | |

came back out a few mins later , and can u blame him for being pi££ed off for dembele coming on to replace him ? never have i seen a plyer so less intrested in dropping back to defend as him , its like its beneath him to actually do some work for the good of the team

Much as I find Dembele frustrating (I mean even the gloves he wore last night FFS, it was 16 degrees!), I blame more the players who just backed off Scienza and let him have a shot.

dembele was the main culprit as he stopped tracking back when he broke forward

Well yes he could have tripped him up and got a yellow; that is apparently allowed in professional football. But you do need to try and close down the player with the ball and prevent a shot, rather than just keep dropping off to let him have a go.

It's the most basic level of professionalism: take the player out nice and early, when it's only a yellow and not a potential red, stop the break away and a potential goal. I hate that we are so ridiculously naïve, right the way through the whole team, and have been for years. It's pathetic. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Never? Has everyone forgotten the enigma that was SWP? His "performance" at Crystal Palace set Furlong back a year in his development with the "cover" he provided that day against Saha and Bolasie et al I always remember it because Ian Wright was a HT pundit and refused to pick out SWP for his leg swinging antics that day
| Smyth on 11:54 - Nov 6 with 3383 views | StevenageRanger | Might just be me but I actually thought Dembele was really bright when he came on. Was beating players, drawing fouls and looked up for it. Unlucky with the shot as well. | | | |

The only way we can fit Dembele in the team is if we play three stoppers across central midfield. Think we should go any three from four but preferably Field, Morgan and one other from Hayden/Varane. We’ve got to stop conceding goals and try and snatch some 1-0 wins. Warnock made a living by grinding out the first 65 minutes and personally enjoy that far more than tippy tappy football that goes nowhere.

I thought Smyth was a little unlucky to be subbed so early. Dembele was better than he has been in previous matches but he's still making daft decisions, such as shooting from the by-line when 3 or 4 players were queueing in the box for the cross. Both Dembele and Chair are frustrating in that they frequently ignore the percentage play in order to try and be the hero. [Post edited 6 Nov 12:16]

He was attack wise, we were unlucky Burrell couldn't quite reach that low cross he sent across the goalmouth. On the stream itl looked like he couldn't keep up with their bloke who scored.

If we're relying on one of our smallest four attacking players to stop a player running fifty yards to shoot on goal unopposed when there are six defensive players behind him, we really do have a problem.

If anything sums up Dembele it was that - does all the hard work to get to the byline, simple cut back available, instead thinks he can score from there. And that is why he's at QPR.

The Dembele who slipped in Chair for a one-on-one against Swansea I like. The numpty who decided to shoot from the by-line when 3 players were queueing for a simple tap-in I most certainly do not.

Thing is, Smyth would have stopped the Southampton player, probably by fouling him. He certainly wouldn't have given up and then blamed the defence.

Don't excuse him just because he isn't 6 foot. The reason he gives up, shrugs his shoulders or waves his hands isn't due to lack of height, its lack of character. Every player should be busting a gut to get back, take a yellow or be prepared to get hurt to prevent a goal. Dembele has form with this and he shouldn't be anywhere near the first team. Gutless.

| Smyth on 06:53 - Nov 7 with 2258 views | HammersmithR | Dembele is absolutely non-existent from a defensive perspective. He doesn’t track back. He was well at fault for Southampton’s 2nd goal. I’d be a lot more forgiving if he was producing the goods further up the pitch. Literally couldn’t tell you the last time he scored or set a goal up. Been for me a very disappointing signing. Saw lots of his goals at Blackpool where he would cut in and score. Haven’t seen any evidence of it. Would appear the step up to the Championship is too much for him. | | | |

Well a problem it certainly is, particularly on the occasions we play 4-4-2.

Burrell scored at Swansea and it was set up by Hayden. Chair had a chance at Swansea and missed. Had he scored it would have been an assist to Dembele.
