Yeah same, nostalgia driven impulse buy. I got the album, but haven’t seen the stickers on sale anywhere! On a side note, I got Chair in one of the packs that came with album.

I have a couple of mates who are also collecting, we've all said the same in regards to where to purchase the stickers,"I've had some luck!" with the WH smiths stores.

Do they still do the gold sticker badges?

I was passionate about them when I was a young teen at school, but for grown adults?

The Football 86 album was as good as it got. Those badges were lit.

football nostalgia related, i have got back into SUBBUTEO ( anyone has any spares let me know) finally managed to complete a stadium and some teams go for a fair few quid, Scottish clubs can go for 100+ quid and there is a Rimini team on ebay now already at 300quid!!
i suppose what ticks your box, train sets, stickers, star wars, action man etc
i remember the footy cards in 70s that came with an awful chewing gum but we all swapped em in the playground and id did try panini but few ever got the book filled.
esso world cup coins anyone??

Who used to swap stickers at QPR? It was in the Upper Loft, the stand was called the Panini Family Stand, late 80s I think. Where the food kiosk is near NU is where it used to be.

They even did NFL stickers. Go Pats!

I was just talking to a painter last night about Subbuteo. All the accessories/stadium stuff/floodlights etc. were great. I used to try and often fail to paint red numbers on the backs of my QPR team. Sadly, the game itself was a bit shit. What was the story with those bizarrely oversize corner kickers for starters?

A mate was clearing an attic recently and found a 1970 Mexico World Cup Sticker book. It was about 5 stickers shy of being full. For some reason I counted all the players with beards. 16 squads. How many beards?

I'll guess 39. If there was a player called Mary in there, make it 40.

I remember collecting soccer stickers before Panini came out. Used to have to glue the into an album. I thought QPR had the best kit and had a bit of a crush on Rodney Marsh 😂. It was 1969 and I was 10 y.o.

I see The Modfather also mentioned these stickers, I had forgotten about the chewing gum.

The only thing that came close to the stickers were the cardboard League tables from Shoot.

I suspect this may be a trick question as I’m pretty sure footballing beards weren’t such a thing then. I consulted my Esso 1970 World Cup Coin Collection to get a general sense of hirsuteness based on the England squad. While I observed a good number of bushy sideburns, there didn’t appear to be any beards or moustaches (the pressings do lack detail though TBF). I can’t believe there were no beards at Mexico 70, however, so I’ll go with one. What’s more, I’ll venture to suggest that Morocco was the team involved.

Whoah that’s too good … one is the correct answer and Morocco I’m pretty sure is correct too. Though I don’t have the book to hand to confirm. Are you a FIFA-certified beard-historian?

That ‘awful chewing gum’ takes me back. Thin, brittle strips as I recall. I still have my collections of Beatles, Man From U.N.C.L.E and Battle cards from the 60’s, which contained the stuff. The Battle cards were rather gruesome, featuring horrific scenes from WW2. The one depicting a doomed German sailor desperately trying to open the sealed hatch of his diving U-boat, while being machine-gunned by an Allied fighter plane, gave me nightmares for weeks. One of my classmate’s mums launched an unsuccessful campaign to get them banned.

As mentioned above, I still have my Esso 1970 World Cup Coin Collection, the Esso 100 Years of Football Coin Collection (1872-1972 featuring all the FA Cup winners in that period) and a set of all the Football League club badges (minus Charlton Athletic if anyone’s got a spare one!)

No, but I’m doing my badges! LFW never ceases to amaze me. When I woke up this morning I could never have imagined that Mohamed Maaroufi’s splendid goatee was about to receive such public adulation (nor, I suspect, did Mohamed Maaroufi).
