When does the Warburton bashing stop???

Before the Swansea match.... What the f*ck is he doing with that line up? We win 5-1. F*cking genius move.
Before tonight's game... Strong line up for a cup match. We lose 2-1. F*cking moron. What is he doing?

Honestly, half of me hopes he walks and we bring back Mark Hughes and JFH with Paul Hart as their assistant and Redknapp as DOF.

Why aren't we more like Liverpool? Perhaps because they've kept their manager for 4.5 years, let him build a team with nearly a billion pounds. Why hasn't Warburton got us to the same level over 2/3rds of one season with free signings, loans and no money in the second division? I mean why aren't we as good?

F*ckkking F*ck for F*ck SAKE!

Never knowingly right.

All I can say is that you’re the only person who thought tonight was a strong line up. I like MW but he got it very wrong tonight.

Come on mate, it is possible to like Warburton, think he’s a great manager and think he’s done a superb job - all of which I do - but also to criticise that team selection tonight.

Blimey.... Really? on 23:30 - Jan 24 with 2344 viewsToast_R

He deserves all the criticism in the world tonight. That was throwing us all under a bus. Team selection was poor, the way we played, even worse. Tossing off a plumb tie in the 5th round when the club needs all the dough it can bring in... words absolutely fail me. A piece of the season just died in the most henious manor.

Our two full backs were a complete pile of w@nk. Kane, how is he even a professional footballer? He was worse than useless. Manning, what's happened to him? His game has fallen off a cliff, can't seem to cross a ball anymore. Get him back in the middle or not at all.

Can see exactly what you're saying Bosh.
I was never convinced MW would be a good choice for us but he has proven me 95% wrong so far as our general form is good and the progression of youth excellent.
However, he and the club in general have to be made aware how galling it is to the support that we roll over and pay lip service to the cups. We're safe in the league due largely to his good work but to kiss off the opportunity of a few plum cup ties is horrible for a supporter, most of my trips to watch in the last 7-8yrs has been the cups as I'm expecting a little more in them, apart from Portsmouth away last year its been the opposite and I can't understand it.
If he deserves praise when we win then he deserves appropriate criticism when he makes imo a stupid mistake.
In reference to Liverpool, I can guarantee every club are looking at them and analysing what is making them successful, continuity of selection has been highlighted tonight and nothing to do with budgets, quality of player available etc. In fact Liverpool operate the perfect system for clubs tight on money, play with a small pool of players.
They'll all be doing it shortly I'm sure.

Still back MW and what he's trying to achieve just think he's misjudged the situation.

Warburton is not and should not be above criticism he's actually done far better league position than I thought he would but when he gets it wrong as he did tonight he's gonna get justifiable criticism.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

That's what i thought. Don't most of us think he's doing an excellent job, all things considered? I think we've been great all year, the games are cracking entertainment more often than not. I wouldn't have thought there'd be hardly any Rangers fans who are against Marky Mark?

Amazed to see Lumley starting and Bright on the bench mind you. Bright must be thinking he can't wait to leave. The better he plays, the more certain he'll be dropped next match.

I love this season, and I think he's a cracking manager.

Also, I couldn't watch tonight.

But that's a poor line-up by him tonight, Bosh.

It should have been good enough to win that tie. Wednesday are very ordinary.

You can rate and back Warburton but also think he completely fcked up tonight both in team selection and slowest to make changes in game.

Don’t get one dimensional Bosh.

Warbs has done a good job this year but he ballsed up today in many ways. Not hooking Clarke at half time was a bad mistake. He was having a nightmare for all to see. An extra 25 min of BOS and it would have been a different result.

I have tried to understand the decision making leading up to the game tonight without much success, except to come to the conclusion our defeat in what should have been a very winnable cup tie was self inflicted by some very questionable pre match decision's.
? Why did we have to rearrange the Blackburn game so soon after its original date which one must assume had a lot to do with tonight's team selection, I understand we have to give the fringe players a chance to show what they can do but surely in a cup competition that could be financially very beneficial to the club, the practical thing to do is field our strongest side and try to get a strong hold in the game before any changes are considered.
I think MW has done a fantastic job this season and I hope he is with us well into the future, but with the recent starting lineups at Brentford and again tonight are examples that we are very much a work in progress where mistakes will be made.
? Another issue that contributed to tonight's defeat was the decision to close the Ellerslie Road stand, we had nearly 12000 in tonight and being the only game on in London we would surely have attracted enough additional support to justify openings the Ellerslie particularly at the ticket prices we had on offer, but by closing it not only did we lose a third of the people likely to support us but also the atmosphere in the ground was really poor, and by the announcement on the website and online regarding the reduction in seats available due to the closure of the Ellerslie Road stand the opportunity to attract many floating spectators and the revenue that could have induced was inexplicably lost.
? I can't understand in making the decision to close the Ellerslie Road side of the ground but having done so it would have been a good idea to allocate some ball boys in front off and in the stand , the amount of times the momentum in our second half pressure was lost by waiting to get the ball back, as clearly their players were in no hurry to retrieve it, and with that idiot of a referee only adding 4 minutes on at the end that lost time proved costly.
Hopefully we can learn some lessons from this defeat for our future to progress.
So onto Blackburn we go.

Yup. For my money Eze, Chair and BOS are currently the best attacking midfielders in this division. They're excellent individually, but, collectively, they make each other even better, and that in turn makes the team play better. So, though I'm sure Warburton has his reasons, why weren't more than two of them on the pitch together for more than a few minutes last night? I get that they need subbing sometimes, but why stagger it? If the three of them had played the first sixty minutes, I'm sure it would have been a very different match.

Also, our corners are rubbish. Eze can do lots of things but he doesn't appear to be a able to put a playable ball into the box. Surely someone else can make a decent fist of them.

It's been explained to me a million times but I don't get it. We're a professional football club who's sole purpose is to win football matches and yet we do everything in our power to lose them.
The club will be begging for season ticket money soon , to do it all over again next season.

I love this season as well and have never slagged off Warbs but not to go with a stronger line up tonight up has to be the wrong call with us out of both relegation and play off contention

What would have been a stronger line up - I think it was 7 changes from the Leeds game.

Kelly for Lumley and Wells for Hugill and arguably Cameron and Amos for Pugh and Ball.

But most importantly was the full backs who last night were consistently turned inside out and allowed cross after cross into our area. Compare that to their full backs who hardly allowed any width or crosses especially in the first half before BOS came on.

Warburtons been brilliant this season but to leave your two in form players wells and BOS on the bench was odd . We need four more wins to be safe. With the offensive players we possess that should be a piece of piss, however particularly in well's case, what was the point. I take it he was resting wells for the next couple of games under the assumption he'll still be here.
Imagine the irony of wells playing up front for Bristol city at Loftus road next Saturday with a weekend off (or 80 minutes at least) under his belt. The selections made no sense. Having said that I hope warburton is with us for a long time!

Typical hysterical post to some great points made by posters
No one has asked for Warburton to go FFS but imo he wasn’t that arsed to win this game
No BOS until 65 minutes I mean WTF , a cup game tossed away and for what so we can go to Blackburn and get beat
This club does itself no favours at times they deserve to have a stand empty for a fourth round cup game( embarrassing btw) , watch Wednesday get spurs , Arsenal or Utd at home next and they deserve it
How galling to see fcuking Millwall get to semi finals and quarter finals every other year I’d die to see us get there , Warburton got loads of plaudits and rightly so earlier in the season but he tried to be to smart and clever last night and we got done so he deserves the criticism

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

In many ways, the initial team selection looked positive but I remarked at the time to Mini Dorse (son, not schlong) that I couldn't work out where Pugh was supposed to fit.

As it turns out, neither could he. It looked like the opposition had targeted our full backs with angled channel balls from the centre: without a partner in crime for Ball (eg Amos, Cameron or Scowen), they were able to get our forwards dropping deep pretty much the whole first half and create overlaps on Manning and Kane.

With Pugh not exactly imposing himself and Clarke looking a bit rusty, we were under the cosh until the BOS substitution. As soon as he arrived, they had to double up on him, freeing up Eze in the middle.

Oh, what might have been. Still enjoying the season though!

It was strong. It wasn't full of kids or old blokes or reserves.

But it was unbalanced and tinker-y. Not the right game to give a debut to Clarke IMO.

I think the criticism largely fair and I think on the whole (here anyway) the attitude to MW pretty balanced - people recognise he's doing a good job overall but there's room for constructive criticism. It'll be at least a year before he's got the squad he wants anyway due to the finances, he's still trying things out.

Having got so used to cup tie tinkering, my initial thoughts on the line up were, "that'll do" - all players bar Clarke have played quite a part this season, we didn't throw a bunch of the u23s in.

And to be fair Wednesday rested arguably their best player in Bannon; also Fletcher & Mass. They just looked a lot more up for it, we were lethargic.

Of course when BOS came on, and as pointed out above, that freed up Eze, and we saw what might have been, it was frustrating tho - especially as he took off Chair, who'd looked pretty sharp.

I do a damn good job where I work but that doesn't stop colleagues criticising me so I am afraid Warburton is not above criticism. We have won the last three or four league meetings with Wednesday and they were there for the taking after their Saturday humiliation.

Once again charitable QPR have handed out a pick me up to opponents and yet again we are out of the cup after another home defeat. We seem to specialise in getting knocked out in our own backyard.

No doubt it will be another case of sacking off the cup to save players for the next league game only to lose said league game as we so often do. Since our fifth away win we have returned to our dismal away form as Barnsley and Brentford showed. I don't suppose we will be much better away at bogey team Blackburn on a cold January night but hope to be proved wrong.

We've had far more than our fair share of home cup ties in recent seasons but we've managed to lose eight of them in the last five years and in only two of those - Watford and Sunderland - were we the obvious underdogs. It is really galling we haven't been able to capitalise.

It's so easy to be wise after the event.
Resting Cameron, Hall, Wallace and Amos seemed perfectly sensible to me. I thought he'd rest Eze as well. Hugill for Wells wasn't a bad call. I'm not sure why Lumley replaced Kelly.
The problem was that so many players didnt get going until halfway through 2nd half. Clarke, in particular, had a mare but I don't think he came here to sit on the bench. BOS seemed to change the dynamics as soon as he came on.

Clarke didn't come to sit on the bench, but he probably didn't expect to start in a cup-tie against pretty difficult opponents. He looked terrified even before kick-off. New, young players are generally filtered into a squad. First as late subs, eventually as starters against low-risk opponents. He was thrown in at the deep end which didn't help the team nor is it likely to aid his development.
