Southgate has bottled that squad with TAA getting in , he didn’t want the hassle of the media on him , TAA has never played well for England and had an average season
Why do we need 4 right backs ? I really hope we don’t go with Walker as the 3rd centre back as he is a liability there , it’s midfield that we are light

Not sure we are light in midfield. Have Mount, Henderson, Phillips, Bellingham plus Grealish or Foden can play in midfield

The 4 right backs thing isn't worth worrying about. All 4 are really good players and offer something very different, James or Walker could go in a back 3 if Maguire is injured. They won't all play anyway

I wouldn’t have Grealish or foden as a centre midfielder & Henderson is crocked and I doubt will play a game so we are very light in the centre of the park

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

There are more than 7 obviously, but from those that you’d consider starters or in contention at the last WC for the 11 and off the top of my head:

Rose, Dier, Lingaard, Alli, Loftus-Cheek, Butland, Welbeck.

My point is, in previous squads once you were established in the way those players were that’s it, you are in for life.

Southgate doesn’t seem to have a problem dropping players.

Hardly big decisions
Rose has hardy played in two years and is gone as a footballer
Ali well out of form
Dier is woeful
Welbeck finished at international level
Butland fallen off the radar
Loftus cheek & lingaard need to move clubs

These are hardly testing Southgate minerals as a manager
The TAA thing has been ludicrous especially from the press the player has been well out of form and Southgate has buckled imo
I can’t believe we are taking four fight backs !!

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I don't think either will play there but they have that option. Will be Mount and either Bellingham or Phillips

Really? I think Mount, Rice and Henderson will be the 3 with Kane plus Foden/Sterling/Sancho/Rashford/Grealish....pick any 2.

I doubt that Bellingham will start the tournament, but I think he will make regular appearances as a sub & will be a star.

Thankfully Declan Rice is over his injury as we have nobody else that can play his role.

Can't understand why Southgate arranges Friendlies then says Lingard will start even though he is not in the final squad.

Seem to have forgotten his first choice LWB Ashley Diving Young still surprised he is taking at least 2 injured players Henderson & Maguire and 3 players in probably in the worst form of their career in Sterling Rashford and Pickford

Really like that squad, we have a lot of good young and exciting talent coming through which could see us right for years. Honestly looking at other countries squads, we are every bit as strong as the frontrunners apart from maybe France.

Might as well include Maguire and Henderson too for now, can make changes up to the first game I believe so can give them time to prove fitness.

"Why do we need 4 right backs ?"

Gone the complete opposite to Taylor at the '92 Euros who took none.

To be fair to him Rob Jones his first choice was injured not sure why Beardsley or Dixon didn't play but did mean Andy Sinton got a game there

The friendlies were arranged before 3 English teams got to 2 finals in the last week so of the 26 man squad 11 of them can't play tomorrow and only the united players will be back in time for Sundays game. Add to that Sancho is ill and Henderson coming back from injury the plan was always to have a bigger squad for these 2 games and potentially use some of the players left out to fill the squad

Looks like 3 4 3 with wing backs hope Coady plays think he is the best pure defender I would've taken Lingaard and Watkins myself and left out Phillips and Sancho but understand why he picked Phillips because Henderson is not fully fit

I agree, at least we have Rice who do the DMC role.

Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish ring a bell, also some vague recollection of Raheem Sterling.

But aside of that, who are these people?

No doubt I’ll have a better idea by the knockout stages, we can’t finish bottom can we, but quite honestly we could field the Albanian National eleven and I’d have about the same level of interest.

Ward Prowse is unlucky. Victim of the four brilliant right backs conundrum I guess. We look light through midfield but it's a difficult job.

I just had to google Dominic Calvert-Lewin

They're not all there as specialist right backs. James in particular can play central midfield. Southgate has said Trent probably won't play there but it's also an option.

It is unfair on Ward-Prowse but doesn't feel that controversial either, not like anyone has real faith in him outside set pieces. After that you're taking a flyer with U21s like Jones and Skipp.

Bloodlust for Trent is weird and OTT. He hasn't been bad the whole season and Robertson also suffered in Liverpool's injury rejig.

At least four players better in Mings' position but not much being said there. I guess he's good in the dressing room like Coady?

Genuine question, looking at forming my fantasy Euro team, nice to put a few of the England lads in the team, but heart must not rule the head.

Midfield/Strikers : looking at Mount - Foden -Grealish- Kane

Sterling/Rashford off form for a while, tend to go for players who have been showing well more recently

2 maybe from the 4 picks, so goal scorer plus assists an advantage, plus the ones Southgate is more likely to select most games whilst still in the tournament.

I am not that confident in our GK or defence, am I being over critical ?

England have some very good players but defense side of things to me is a worry, Italy are the ones that I think may surpise a few, solid looking team, may not hit the heights scoring many goals but besides England, think they are in there with a good chance.

Any views gratefully accepted.

Maybe someone can correct me but don’t remember a single goal created in open play by England in the last World Cup Finals ?
For that reason alone Ward-Prowse may have been a decent option.

Agree - Just because we relied on set pieces in Russia, doesn't mean we should lean into it. Far more creative players this time around. We still have Trippier, Trent, Chillwell, Mount, who can all take decent set pieces. As long as we don't go back to Harry Kane on corners, I'm happy!

Very few sides score that many goals, in 2010 WC Spain won every game 1-0 from the Finals Stage, and yes we probably think back at them tearing everyone a new one.

They might have if Messi opted for Spain back then... wonder if he slightly regrets it...

We did score a couple from open play in the Trinidad game I think. Possibly lingaards first and Kanes third
