It was though!

First look a bit deabateable, 2nd angle, 100% a pen and the telling thing, player didn't argue - 95th minute pen at 0-0, if he's not arguing its a pen!

But that’s exactly all he had …… the first look !!! You can’t just guess ffs

MY first look it was debateable, that's from a camera up in the stands - KS was about 10 yards away - it WAS a pen - he got it right.

I think we've sunk to new levels of absurdity if he's getting the blame for getting a big game changing decision correct, one that even the player who committed the foul didn't argue with!

I thought it was a penalty.

I didn't think that he was any better or worse yesterday than many of the referees we have had this season......but I am sure many will want to say differently.

Agreed... as good as I've seen him (low bar), no clangers and for me actually one of the better performances we've had this season from any ref... probably a reflection of just how poor the refereeing has been this season more than anything.

No clangers? Didn't see the blatant shirt pull on Dunne in the box in the first half then? Also Iroegbunam's yellow card was the softest you'll see and being after four minutes left him treading on eggshells the rest of the game rendering him far less effective.

Yes saw the shirt pull.....but seen that every game this season without the ref giving penalties - at our end as well as the oppositions end. Yellow cards were all bookable offences (including Tim's after 4 minutes) - no issues.

Ward for Luton, I can accept. It’s the Championship. He’s rubbish, the league is rubbish, understandable infrequently.

Stroud for Cardiff? F*CK OFF.

You have got that the wrong way round. Aside from the Dunne pen, which many, many refs far, far better than Lord Farquar would have missed, the short ass did quite well compared to others; he has not been THAT bad recently.

Ward however is an utter, utter tool. He is the weakest of them who constantly doubles down to cover himself. He will lose control of a game that will be tense because of off the field stuff anf for once I am really glad to be staying away as I could do without the embarrassment of losing it in the first two minutes when he makes his first f-up.

He is ten times the fool Farquar is.

Can we go out yet?

Agree he was ok and yellow cards were correct
That's a penalty though. He was in a great position but waved it away. Once again we are denied a spot kick by this official.

Forgot about the Dunne shirt pull, yes strictly speaking a pen but sadly the kind of thing which we see got away again and again (sometimes in our favour, sometimes not). It's not a clanger compared to some of the tripe we've seen this season (clicks fingers). E.g. Burnley where it's a nailed on pen in min 1 and even Cork is apologising for his dive a few minutes later but, ref gives the free kick and they score. Or the handball penalty farce at Reading. Or the joke at Birmingham where Hannibal went around devouring our players unchecked when a decent ref would have sent him off way before halftime. Or the red card that should have been for the last man foul on Willock vs Swansea. Or (one in our favour) the Cardiff red in the reverse fixture. Jaysus, I'm only touching the tip of the iceberg on the tosh refereeing we've seen this season and for me the Dunne incident last night surely isn't comparable.

Tim's foul, was, IMO, a yellow cardable offence. But as it was early in the game as you say and Stroud could have gone with just a warning. But he as consistent with his yellows for both sides throughout the game. Something he rarely has been in the past....

Dont' get me wrong, I think he's a $*!7 ref normally but last night I thought he did alright.

No issues with Stroud yesterday. Clear penalty, but difficult to see with one look, as others says, there’s shirt tugs and then there’s that, which stopped Dunne from moving. If that had been against us i’d have had zero complaints had it been awarded.
With yellows, he booked Tim for a stupid challenge, but was pleased to see him do the same when Tim was pulled down. Ditto slightly harsh yellow on Laird for kicking the ball away: he gave Romeo a yellow for delaying our throw, so good consistency.
Easy game to ref though, with both sides boring themselves and everyone else to death. I love Boxing Day games, but either they’re local, or don’t have them. Great atmospheres in other london games yesterday, but we’re forced to go to bloody Cardiff. Defeats the point of a BD game!

Bare bones.

To be fair, his inability to avoid getting in the way of the ball were the only highlights of the entire evening.

Incidentally, if you’ve ever had to miss a game on TV courtesy of the lady in your life pulling rank (Whitney Houston film is actually quite decent by the way) I’d recommend watching the first half, take a break, watch the Detectorists, then watch the rest. That hours filling made the sandwich a little more digestible.

The one I didn’t get (at first) was why he pulled us back after a through ball had got one of our players away.
Then I saw the ball had clipped Keithy Baby so fair enough there.
It was an uneventful game that you always thought Keithy Baby would look to have an impact on with some mad decisions but he didn’t

Fair play. He did his job far better than Dykes or Shoddyipo did.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

He’s set his standards so abysmally low that he can stand 6 yards away from this, loom right at it, do nothing, and people think he was actually ok.

Given the c30 people on the pitch yesterday being paid to a do a job, it would be churlish to single out Stroud’s performance as deficient.

Penalty, no question......Did he see it??, I didn't see it in real time but I was afar. I have seen similar stuff a dozen times this season and no penalty given - sadly, its football now.

Not sure it is Stroud that sets the standard, many are pretty poor from what I have seen.

He was definitely more consistent yesterday which was a bit of a plus. But really if that's not a penalty when touching someone's toenail when they're running towards you is, it just makes a nonsense of it. It's the same thing as the shirt pull didn't just hold him back, it actually pulled him over, which is why I think it's more of a pen than the usual incidents you see in every match.

That was definitely a yellow no matter what time the game, be booked a Cardiff player for similar so was consistent which is what we want.

That said, seems incredible that holding a shirt like that could result in a chap of Dunne’s size and proportions being brought to ground like that.

Yes he’s had the shirt pulled and a pen could easily have been awarded. However, it looked to me then and now, that upon realising his shirt was being pulled, our Jimmy looked to ‘maximise’ the opportunity.

Surely though any foul in the area is a penalty.? . If that shirt pull was in any other area of the pitch that would have been given.

But that doesn't stop it being a penalty.
