Can anyone help me here?. What exactly has been going on with this player? I just don't get it. We just bought someone who has played hardly any games for us. I'm mystified.
AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!
I haven't personally quite worked out where GA is yet on this scale. If I read his body language, it always seems to be consistent with what he's saying,
He's a non-analytical positivist. The future is always going to be better, much better, than the present. It'll be sunshine, lollipops and roses... maybe not tomorrow, but sooner rather than later. He's not quite Ted Lasso but certainly in that direction. The thinker is Dobson. His feet are on the ground, he's articulate and seems detail oriented.
That makes sense, VH - thanks for that. Thinking back to the Bristol City post-match interview and contrasting it with the pre-match one is a great example of that. Obviously pre-match it was what you would expect it to be "we want to show our thanks to the fans" etc. Post-match he couldn't hide his frustration, particularly at the way we conceded the second goal, but it was immediately followed by a big smile and "Its going to be a big summer, and I can't wait to get stuck in". All genuine, body language congruent with his statements, but big picture, no detail etc. RD's Open All R's podcast interview was really interesting, in-depth, clear, focussed, direction of travel obvious, calm, analytical etc.

I do think as a 1 and 2 that having one motivator and one tactician is a good combination in a managerial team. Better than duplicating skill sets

The reason I'm not getting into the downbeat "we're fkd" next season rhetoric is because across the Championship there are fan groups of many clubs all saying the same for next year, all panicking about the clubs coming up, we're certainly not alone in that instance and I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in worrying about ourselves we forget everyone else frets as well.
The fact the last 6 months have been so disastrous doesn't help the mood but its all gone and done and dusted now.
We also have absolutely no idea how squads across the division are going to line up next year - until you get to July / August and you know who has come in and gone out there is zero point in worrying "oh our defence/midfield/strikeforce is only X and Y etc".
We may well be fkd next year, but at this point absolutely no-on, not even clubs, have any idea at all.
As far as Richards goes...well...it wouldn't be the first time we've had a waster footballer on our hands. Will he come good? Not sure myself at the moment, not been convinced by him in the tiny snippets we've seen either but they have been so small I accept they could be wrong.

Here's some snippets from his Man City days that might give you more of a clue as to what he's capable of:

You may be right, but the luxury those other clubs have is that they only need to look for two more clubs worse than theirs, we need to find three.
From this point, with the finances, the state of our reserve teams, the value of our "assets", the general mood around the support base, the doubt over who is taking the club forward due to the apparent absenteeism of the board, the abandonment of our club strategy and the demonstrated capability of our first team over the last two seasons, staying up next season would seem to be a monumental achievement.
I just can't see much cause for optimism. I hope I am wrong. Maybe Eze will go for big money this summer; maybe Willock, Chair, Dykes and Dieng can command big fees and maybe they can be replaced by players at a small cost who stay fit and make the team better; maybe those left behind will develop the backbone they have sorely lacked and maybe Niko and Ozzie turn in to the best full backs this league has seen.
I hope so, I really do, but the available evidence on any of that working out is a little light right now...

I know everyone knows already where I stand on all of this, so I won't say too much more before we start seeing things taking shape, but you might have seen that there's a new 20-minute interview with GA on the offish. You could say there's not a lot of new info in there, but I think its worth listening to about the support he's had from the board and how he's gone about constructing a central core of 6 people in the management team to work as a kind of powerhouse unit. Also reassuring noises for most people about style of play I would say, and about the need to significantly upgrade physical and mental resilience amongst the players. For anyone that hasn't listened to it already I would strongly recommend catching up with the Open All R's podcast with Richard Dobson. There's a lot that can be done behind the scenes just with tightening up on mindsets and processes, which doesn't cost anything and will make a significant difference, and we have a management team who understand that and are prioritising it.
To me he looks like one of those Freestyle Footballers more concerned about performing a great rabona than actually making a decent pass or score a goal. He did do add to the litany of things I'd never seen in Professional football before though with his tying his bootlace up whilst the play goes on around him

This bootlace thing is getting a bit out of hand now.
What did you expect him to do? Carry on playing then fall flat on his face after stepping on the loose lace? I can guarantee he'd be getting even bigger pelters in that scenario.

Nah come on mate, I agree with you 98% of the time but I've never seen anything quite like that. His bloke was right here, 5 yards away, running at him with the ball, and he decided to just check out and sort his boot out, let the guy have a free run at Drewe who already had a man. It was poor.

I expected him to a) actually tie it properly in the first case b) To keep running after his man and if his boot comes off it, it comes off it is actually possible to run with one boot on. Mind I did play with a lad once who decided to do his bootlace up when defending a corner in the last minute and the man he was "marking" scored with a free header still he is/was a Chelscummer so not a massive surprise

Have to agree.
I pissed myslef laughing when I saw it, I think with shock. Rare that you see sometjing new in sports anymore but that was a new one on me.

Fair enough, I didn't see the game. It just seems to have become totemic when in the end it's just one minor incident that won't ultimately have any bearing on whether he turns out to be a success or not.

It said a lot about his attitude and commitment to the cause, though. Hopefully he can get his head straight for next season.....I understand taking some risks in the transfer market, given our standing, budget, wages paid, but this one, for a player it is clear was known to be problematic, paying a fee for him, wow.

Agree 100%. RD is very much the key to how his this works out.
Hang on Col - in the context of QPR 2023/24, he is a sort of tortured genius, isn't he? OK, his "demons" if you like have been brought on himself, it seems, but think of the long litany of footballers that we all revere and you'll find its true of so many of them: George Best, our own Stanley, God Bless Him, to name but two that easily come to mind. I'm not by any stretch of the imagination suggesting that Taylor Richards should be named alongside these legends, but the similarities are these: He's an asset that the club has spent a significant proportion of the current available transfer budget on, who clearly has significant talent, on whom a lot of future hopes have been pinned, but is a "wayward child" who needs help sorting out his direction before that talent goes to waste and he self-destructs. His canvas is the football stadium on which, we hope, he will be able to learn how to handle his artistry long enough to paint a footballing masterpiece. Isn't that what we all pay to watch? Isn't that what the purists in particular amongst the posters on our Forum, and amongst the fanbase in general are crying out to see? If you think that's "nothing", then why do you watch football in the first place - and in particular endure season after season of disappointment watching a struggling side like ours?
With the club in its current financial predicament and with a cull of the squad needed to then be replaced by players of the right calibre, work rate and mentality, surely the last thing we need is to waste time, money and energy on another “problem child” with potential.
Time will tell whether this potential will be fulfilled or whether he his just another expensive mistake that drags this club further down the tubes.
If we are not to be relegation fodder next season, we need players through the door that can be relied upon to turn up week in, week out and fight for the cause. Initial impressions of the lad are not promising.

If, as some say, we are paying 1.5 million for him then that's probably our entire budget for next season. So much for rebuilding the team.

Sorry. Where and when did the bootlace incident happen? is there a video of it?
It’s all been misconstrued.
As the bloke with the ball ran at him, Richards knelt down in an attempt to tie his opponents shoe laces together. Unfortunately, he completely mistimed it and ended up tieing his own shoelaces.

...which has happened to all of us.

On the face of it they do seem like an ideal combination. Ainsworth the positive motivator, man manager, getting buy in etc. Dobson the tactical guy dealing with the technical aspects, team set up etc and a QPR man too.
I'd love to see them make a success of it. Two guys who really care about this club and want the best for it. Hopefully they can get a squad together that can compete, although as we know the budget is very limited.
