Deflections have never been able to "reset" an offside.
What HAS, in the past, is a defender stretching for the ball for example, with head or foot and getting a slight touch on it.
What new wording tries to do is to say the defender has to have more control of the ball and his actions before an offside is "reset" or ignored - whatever way you want to put it! |

I'm well aware that deflections have never, in law, meant that the forward was onside. But I've definitely seen goals awarded because of a deflection!
Hopefully, the new wording will make the decision easier for officials & clearer to defenders. |  | |  |

I know we not had much to shout about but it makes the experience even more unwatchable.
It's in polite language extremely frigging irritating and I hate sh*tho*s*ry as much when we do it as the opposition.
Referees had zero control even when realistically they have known exactly what is occurring and in recent seasons its been so unbelievably blatant and everyone knows it too.

In rugby don't they just stop the clock when the ball is out of play? Seems the easiest method by far. Also stops those silly goal times: 90 mins + 11 or whatever. |
This works very well in rugby league. You could shorten the game to 80 mins and you would still have more actual playing time. In fact this would probably still be the case with 35 min halves.
Stop the clock maybe 10 secs after the ball goes out of play making any time wasting irrelevant. Have a set time for free kicks etc after which the clock stops. | | | |

It is what I have consistently preached in here for years and am yet to see one reasonable counter argument. Most games have the ball in play around 60 minutes, so two 35 minute halves should do, or even 32 minute halves if the precious little dears can't hack the "extra" exercise time...
Start evening games earlier (7PM, but no later than 730pm). |  |

Impossible to start evening games at 7pm, as half the crowd would not be able to get there in time if they got bog standard 9 to 5 jobs.
7.30pm used to be the old start time for evening games back in 70s and I believe also 80s do could just about work. | |

They stop the clock for some things but then have it running for certain kicks and allow the kicker ages to take them.
They also play on with injured players receiving treatment on the pitch.
After time is up on the official clock, the game continues until the team that is winning manages to get possession and kick it out of play.
So IMHO it's comparing apples and pears..
One thing I do like though is their advantage rule. When the referee plays an advantage, it the move subsequently breaks down, he can then bring the ball back to where the original offence occured. Unlike our game where any advantage can be easily lost. | | | |
