well ghana had a plan, defend and hope to break, ok they could have had a penalty but went down easily like many teams do.
we hit the bar and kane blasted the follow up over the bar. we created few chances but remain TOP , ghana celebtrated like they'd won the whole cup
should Partey be on pitch? or in the country?
one issue is if we can't break down ghana , how to break down spain/france/brazil etc etc ???

Rice looks knakered, we're nursing Saka, and neither Madueke or Gordon look remotely like they're going to tear the oppo's fullbacks a second one.
We've always had a problem caused by not having a player in the midfield who can really pull the strings and while we have shown some improvement in ball retention, breaking teams down who've parked the bus, remains a challenge.
However, we did show in the second half against Croatia, something not seen for a while: an ability to really get at a team and impose ourselves. Although the first half was defensively poor, we came out of that game with some positives. So, as with QPR, the answer lay somewhere in between,
Score against Ghana, and one assumes they'd would have had to open up and we might well have won with ease. You also have to assume that once out of the group stage, you're going to meet teams more inclined to attack then park the bus, which might assist England more. However, for me the underlying issue, especially against teams who are adept at keeping the ball and can break fast: will we have the legs come mid-July? |  |

England were rubbish - you canot get away from that.
The game is narrowing though.
It's becoming really formulatic and, to be quite frank, dull.
The difference at the top is those players with bravery and magic who do that in one moment and unlock deep and tight teams.
I do think England are too shite at the back to go far into this WC but we do have a good few players who can hold or give and do that at the right time; they can play slow or fast and get to the line. Up top Kane will 9 times out of 10 hit you and hurt you in defence or attack but the only way we'll beat teams like Ghana is by getting round the back.
Looking forward to Saturday's game for the novelty of a 10pm KO in the boozer.
Panama will be taking a Ghana approach I'd imagine so we'll see |  |

My Eleven for Panama
Pickford
O'Reilly Guehi Konsa (F**k Knows) ie we have no decent right backs here.
Anderson Rogers
Rashford Eze Saka
Kane
Bellingham (Rested)
Rice and James (injured)
Madueke and Gordon (sh*t)
Pickford is the goalkeeper and keepers are hardly ever changed or rested in world cups but either Trafford or Henderson would be fine for me.
We have hardly any options in defence. Stones been out for too long, Spence and James both bang average. The decisions not to take Maguire, Shaw, Trent all look bad decisons already. All have qualities and experience. Our defence is weak and zero cover. Chalaboah replacement is laughable too.
Think giving Rogers, Saka, Rashford and Eze game time, as all have a part to play later. The failures of Gordon and Madueke also has exposed the depth up top and decisons to not take Gibbs White, Palmer or Foden also currently not looking top bananas.
Possibly could rest Kane and try Toney. But i dont think that will happen and Watkins I feel isnt a one up top type of striker.

Well yes i agree with you about Pickford. He is the archetypal clown type goalkeeper a la Bruce Grobelaar, he can be brilliant but can drop the odd clanger, and yes if it was likely to happen I would play Trafford too, but i cant see it happening.
I said in our season last year rhe odd game, I wouldhave replaced Walsh with Hamer or Nardi feom the bench. You can do five subs, aonif the goalkeeper having a bad game, no real reason why you cant sub him occasionally and gives the othwr keeper some game time also. Seems to be an unwritten law not to do that,unless you the ex Spurs manager away in Real Madrid.
Forgot about Mainoo too, I would try to give him some game time too.
Jordan Henderson i guess but unless we get a lot if injuries i cant see him getting on as sub apart from , if it is the knockout stages and we shutting up shop with ten minutes left to play. Maybe he could bring him on late against Panama so at least he has some game time out there. [Post edited 26 Jun 17:00]

Also, guys, if Eze is going to play at any point, itโs in the midfield 2. He came on for Rice against Costa Rica and played there, and for Anderson against Ghana. I think Tuchel wants to use him as a central midfielder with the ball at his feet being someone who picks the passes. He isnโt playing 10, left wing, or up top. Itโs clear he is not in the top 2 for those positions, but Tuchel keeps using him in central midfield. |  | | |

Picking James and Livramento as your RBs was always going to be a gamble. The only thing you can say for both lads, with injury records like theirs, you wouldn't be surprised if they rocked up at W12, sailed through the medical process (such that it is!), and promptly joined JCS in the Matty Rose memorial treatment room.
Not sure who else he could/should have brought, but TAA might have been more durable. With Stones and Saka having issues, Tuch really has gambled. | |

1) itโs likely we play Congo. If they beat Uzbekistan, we will play Congo.
2) Mainoo and Eze are the cover for Anderson and Rice. Everything in the pre-WC friendly and first two games points to that. | | | |
