Great performance, amazing game, I haven't been to sleep.
He should have brought Trent. At the very least he should have brought him instead of Chalobah as the late replacement. I don't think that's sneery to still think that.
Two things can be true at once: the team can be playing brilliantly, well drilled by an expert coach. And the squad can still look a bit lopsided in places. After all, the second choice RB (who's a CB) covering for the fragile first choice did get sent off last night in the 54th minute for a mad panicked tackle. So it's not been a faultless mastermind selection in that position.
I can hugely enjoy the win and still think it a bit weird he didn't bring a second specialist RB (or LB?). I can enjoy QPR winning and think the squad's weird there simultaneously. Or is everything totally brilliant or totally terrible, no grey areas?

Hardly a ringing endorsement, and as has been said, surely even now, while gloating in the delights of last night, TAA over Chalobah would have been a better choice?
Last night was always going to be a test of character, being able to win your duels and deal with a hostile occasion, and even if available I wouldn't have started Trent. We were fantastic.
BUT, Norway will be a very different game, as will the semi final if we make it. We will have a lot more of the ball so not just about winning your duels. Let's hope Konsa or Spence can perform.

I read somewhere today that England have the second highest XG in the tournament so far, and i'm told that's very important.
It must help that John Stones plays against or with Haaland every day.
I think we all would have taken it if we were told we'd get through to the quarters to play Norway.

Gordon and Saka (who has the most England assists) will surely be auto choices with most of the others now.
This means who plays as fullbacks? I would say Spence and O'Reilly, as that's all we have really.
He should have brought in Mitchell and Shelly for Henderson and Livramento. This way we would have way more options. Not to mention Wharton in for Mainoo.
Also, we could have taken James Justin, who is old, not an amazing right-back, but can play both fullback positions and is a solid player, instead of Quansah. Quansah may never play for England again now. There is a reason Liverpool sold him.
To think that squad does not even include Shelly, Wharton and Ngumoha all coming into the England team after the tournament is amazing.
England's future looks good.

I thought going into 25/26 the full back slots at QPR were weird and that they were a mess all season. Didn't mean I didn't want QPR to succeed more than anything remotely rational, nor that I didn't celebrate each victory like the end of war.
Every opinion is used as wedge nowadays, even an opinion about which second choice right back is picked in a football squad. Culture war nonsense.

Brazil look lightweight.
Haaland can score from anywhere and his conversion rate must be up there with the world best percentages.
Can someone forward a text from Haaland to Trump, which quotes Haaland saying how much disrespect he has for the orange blob. Trump can then ring his FIFA mate to ban him.
i would have fancied us v a poor brazil team, compared to many other of their teams over the years. norway will be tough but we know them, they do not dive, cheat roll about , we know their players and it should be a tough test, it should be it is a world cup QF for any scots/welsh fans, this is when your team wins games and you move thru the cup and do not come home on a day return ticket! v mexico, that was a HISTORIC/DRAMATIC night a classic , all against us, weather, fans, altitude, fifa , refs the lot and we won! with 10 men for 30 plus mins QF was the minimum we expect , as did germany , maybe holland but they are out and tonight spain or portugal pack their bags too.

Woke up for an old mans toilet break last night, saw it was 1-2 at half time and thought I am having some of this - Watched the 2nd half with a cuppa and the back door open as it was like the bloody Azteca in my living room
At 3-1 I thought we got this after great work by Gordon who I thought was immense from what I saw. Never a Pen for them but thats already been said here
Red card was sadly correct decision and O'Reilly was super lucky not to have gone too
All the players put their bodies on the line and did an amazing job, but I have to say for me Spence was the epitome of what was required last when he came on as a sub. He has had a lot of criticism, and maybe rightly so, but on this occasion he came on in a cauldron of emotion and played outstanding
Well done to all of the players and bring on Haaland FC
P.S: After the way the Mexican players behaved last night we have to give any that play in English Football this season a rough ride

Marc Guéhi has played with Haaland for half a season so should have some idea on how to play him.
Haaland has played eight times against Dan Burn and only scored once and that in 2022 in their first meeting. If I was Tuchel knowing that stat I'd be tempted to start him and shift Konsa out to RB.
As Mexico pumped 500 crosses into the English penalty area without any success I thought Ollie Watkins should have been brought on to use his speed and ability to move the team upfield. They were just hacking it away and I expected Mexico to switch up tacticts and keep it on the ground hoping to cause carnage in the box but they never did . Haaland is dangerous but he is their only real threat and thats exactly why Mexico lost IMO England shut down Jiminez (they knew his game inside out ) and except for his goal took out Quinones and will do the same to Norway I believe. As for the Quansah red card that was pretty violent there is no way its getting overturned

I feel like Tuchel has left certain players out because he doesn't believe they're good for team spirit. Certainly we seem to have that in spades at the moment.

Tbf it took two fantastic saves by Pickford to keep Jimenez out. Not sure we exactly shut him down.

King Charles trumps Trump so he should be contacting Infantino. It's not about turning over Quansah's red card but suspending it.
I am of course joking but in the spirit of fairness every suspension for the remainder of the tournament should be suspended for a year.
Those who made this decision should be removed and this unfair, highly distasteful episode never, ever repeated.

I was going to post something like this. As the the number of right backs available decreased and we still saw no sign whatsoever of TAA it became more and more obvious that Tuchel saw him as an obstacle to team cohesion. Don't forget, Bellingham really had to fight his way back into the squad.
Echo what has been said about the Mexico game. It had everything and if you can't enjoy that then football (in fact sport as a whole) probably isn't for you. Great performance from England, and a very adaptable one at that.
Not sure about Norway on Saturday tbh. Our best performances have been against teams that want to play more open football, whereas we tend to struggle against those that rely on organisation and efficiency. Plus they've got the orc up front. It's going to be a really tough game - which as a World Cup 1/4 final it should be.

I think there is a strong case to play 352 against Norway. I know Tuchel won’t change the set up that much, and we have to trust him.
But I’d be more confident with a back 3 of Stones, Burn, and Guehi against Haaland. You have the ball playing class, the unit, and pace by doing that so might negate him. And if Haaland is neutralised, then England win, surely??
Assuming he keeps his 4231 shape, Gordon and Saka have to start. The midfield 3 picks itself. I think he’ll play James of Konsa at right back. I’d really like to see Stones play with Guehi. I really really do not like this Guehi/Konsa centre half pairing. I think Haaland will have a field day if they play together.
