Hi Simon, the rules were loosened this summer to allow all clubs at least 1 inbound from Europe that wouldn’t meet the previous criteria. It’s why all those around us have one or several FM Regen types this season.

Thanks for the update.

I think they have changed the rules slightly around this.

You are actually allowed to sign up to four players without a work permit per season if you are in the PL and Championship, but it depends on what percentage of game time you give to english players.

In L1 and L2 it drops to a max of two players.

At the end of the season, the club can actually apply for a full work permit if they have played an x percentage of games and that would mean they would not count towards this limit.

That show how much attention I've been paying lately. Thanks

When you play Football Manager over time players retire so to keep the player database full the game creates new, faceless players called like Dave Dave to fill the gaps. They're called Regens as sometimes they are the reincarnation of players like Messi

Not sure I said anything about the cream of swedish football....

But there must be several players who Marti knows about that could do a job for a championship team.

As always this comes with a massive caveat around FFP. I wasn't aware of the brexit information either.

My impression from the sale of good young players who have done well in the Norwegian Elite league is that they aren't cheap, likely to go for £2 M plus and then they tend to go to Belgium or Holland before, if they do well, onto bigger Leagues, Germany, Spain, Italy, perhaps the Championship. Then the Championship is I think higher quality than the Norwegian top League so it's a gamble as well to take a player doing well there into the Championship hoping he will be a real success short term. I think they keep the young ones with potential under contract pretty well too. I know less of Swedish football than the little I know of Norwegian, but suspect it is fairly similar.

Luke Freeman is training with us at the moment.

Maybe nothing in it but could he still do a job?

I'd rather our scouts tried a bit harder than that, but he is without a club, so may be training just to keep his fitness up.

The typical QPR thing would be to lash out some wages on another player, loan out 3, and find ourselves staying up by the skin of our teeth. If we're going to do things differently now, there's something to be said about saying no to new faces and keeping the squad the same unless we have leavers.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

Currently learning how to quickly turn back towards his own goal when he receives the ball.

Curious to see Ejaria on that list. A few seasons back he looked like the dogs danglies when we played Reading. But something has to have gone very wrong since, and in the context of the current problematic squad we probably can't afford any risks with either injury or attitude.

Matty Longstaff another curious one, burst on the scene but now seems to have spent 2 season in league 2. Don't know anything about him post Newcastle debut.

On a side note, surprising how many of our ex charges are on the English nationality part of that list (JET, Todd Kane, Jordon Mutch. Luke Amos, Luke Freeman, Kieran Lee). Could be taken as a sign that we're not so good at this signing players thing! (Freeman aside)

Isn't Todd Kane just waiting for that £12m move to Sheff Utd to come through?

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Genuinely curious if other clubs make as many nostalgia signings/appointments as we do. It’s been going on for years and rarely works out well but we seem to do it time and time again.

Maybe we won’t sign Freeman but it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if we do based upon recent history and it just feels like another lazy attempt to build goodwill with the fans rather than trying to run a competent and competitive football club.

Out of contract and willing to sign a short term contract. Would be a useful signing til the end of the season.
Shouldn't effing need to though, there should be enough quality in the development squads and bloody Richards.
But if it came to a toss up to bringing Freeman on in midfield, or uncs....

Fair point and probably depends whether Freeman’s fit enough to do a job. But he’s not played regular first team football over the past few years which doesn’t bode well.

Totally agree re development squads btw.

Apparently he played 26 times last season. He's 31. Definitely have him over uncs any day of the week.

If he’s fit and wants to play then put him in a performance related contract till the end of the season. As our so called “strikers” can’t score play Freeman as a false 9 interchanging with Smyth and Willock in a 4-3-3 with Chair feeding them.

At the very least he’s a useful option off the bench

Natural left winger... Allows Chair to come back on the right, that's a good thing. Unless Chair is off 🤨

Played 25+ games for Luton last season. Short term contract wouldn't do any harm would it? Better than what we currently have.

10 starts with 16 sub appearances, albeit in a promotion winning team. Let’s hope he’s still got something in the tank if he signs.

Personally stick him in the midfield like Sheff Wed do with Bannen and Sunderland do with Pritchard

Getting the ball off the centre backs and starting attacks

I would definitely have Luke back and we should've kept Martin and Iron booted Uncs at the end of last season after his goal kept us up.

It’s hardly the second coming of Lee Cook but you know what, given poor Ziyad’s baptism of fire in that position against Cardiff I’d give Luke a contract until the end of the season. Knows the club and the ground/fans and presumably can still put a cross in. Can he take corners?
