| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 08:54 - Jul 5 with 4670 views | TK1 | July 5th, everybody. There has never been a season whereby time the window closes in September QPR haven't signed substantially more players than I believed were needed at the start of July, including seasons we were totally skint. There will be goalkeepers, fullbacks, midfielders and even positions you thought we were well stocked in. They'll have verbal agreements ready with all sorts, including a keeper. Spitaballing here - walk with me - how about Cooper goes to Wednesday and we take Charles in return? Think that's possible. There'll be loads going on like that. Loads. | | | |

I'd be amused if the picture of Walsh at Wigan is AI generated. 6 fingers might be useful for a goalie, mind.

The best transfer for the season. Let’s challenge for the playoffs with the new goalie.

| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 23:14 - Jul 4 by Wilkinswatercarrier | I think the club has got it badly wrong with Walsh ever since we signed him, going back 5 years. He should of been out on loan straightaway, but I'm sure Les said he would learn more in training than going to a lower league loan. It was then made worse last season. The lad could of played nearly 150 mens games by now in L2 and L1 potentially, ready for this season at QPR. The only reason he is going on loan now is to sell him. A big cock up. |
Yes, knew this had to be Les Ferdinand's fault somehow. Let's remind ourselves that LF left QPR three years ago. Joe Walsh signed for QPR, aged 18, in 2021. He joined to play with the U23s. Under the then coaching staff he had three loans in 2022 and 23, aged 20 and 21: at Hampton, Dorking and Maidenhead. Because that was the level he was at. There's no diktat that league clubs must take Championship youth keepers, sorry about that. He then joined Acrington Stanley in Dec '23, under LF's rule, played a few games in L2. Ferdinand then left. No more loans in the following three years. It should be noted that under LF, two keepers were successfully grown from U23s into professional Championship keepers through loans: Lumley and more successfully, profitably Dieng. So I reckon they knew what they were doing.

| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 08:37 - Jul 5 by Watford_Ranger | You’d like to think there’s a plan. I’m not confident there is. |
Maybe the plan is to keep Cooper and Walsh in the picture - one on loan, one possibly as back up - and then see next window if either are ready for the first time, or raise money if sold. Keeping options open, developing players, maybe not the worst plan? It’s not an exact science and to some extent comes down to how far that player can push himself to improve

Also, the keeper you are describing, nurtured through a 100-odd games at L2 and L1 level, earning a great reputation at that level, same age as Walsh...we actually have that keeper contracted. He's Murphy Cooper. Do you want him to him start as number 1 this year? It might happen.

Minor correction. Ferdinand left in June 2023. We had no DOF for 6 months, although Nourry was advising the club in his Retexo role for the whole of 2023. Summer 2023 was also when Ben Williams arrived (recruited by Nourry for the club). One can only speculate who was making decisions on playing matters outside the first time from July 2023 to Jan 2024 when Nourry was appointed CEO. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You would think, and certainly hope that was the case. I find it mental we’re starting the season without a first choice keeper in the squad. Perhaps it is Cooper. I’d be surprised, and I’m sure there were rumours he’d be off too. I know a lot of transfer activity gets done late. I understand the reasons why. But it feels to me that there must be so much competitive advantage to be gained by getting your business done early and having your squad together through pre-season, so they can gel, build relationships on the pitch and learn more the head coach’s pattern of play. People forget, I’m pretty sure Warnock signed Derry, Hill, and Mackie before pre-season. They were when they trained at Hampton School and ahead of the tour to Cornwall. Surely that should be the aim?!

All true. But this is a World Cup summer and that can delay the whole transfer merry-go-round from hitting top gear because a lot of European clubs will delay spending decisions to see if bargains can be picked up from relatively unknown players performing well at the tournament. That said, I'm sure everyone is busy making plans, sounding out agents, and identifying targets and contingencies.

I agree. I was always at a loss as to why he wasn't sent out on loan as Dieng and then Cooper had been. Walsh could have been sent out on loan fir the season when Begovic was at QPR. He would then have picked up some valuable experience and might just have had a better season when made 1st choice last year. Hopefully QPR will have learnt from this and sign 2 keepers this summer so that Salamon can go out on loan.

Summer 2023 was an odd one. All through the summer we were being linked to players that Gareth Ainsworth had previously worked with, but in the end only Paul Smyth got signed from that group of players. I can't remember the name of the player but wasn't there a centre back from Peterborough that Ainsworth wanted and him and his agent were actually here expecting to sign a contract when they were told at the last minute the deal was off. Very odd goings on.

You said Walsh joined Accrington Stanley in Dec ‘23 “under Les’ rule”. Les wasn’t here then. And technically there was no DOF so unsure who made that decision.

Totally agree Hunter. For me, it's nothing to do with whether you rate Joe Walsh or not. What I don't understand is that the whole Nourry plan has been to make us sustainable as a football club, building gradually etc etc. How does that marry with being in a position where we've got little choice but to buy probably 2 goalkeepers and we're coming up to the second week of July? It's not as though we haven't all seen this coming from the moment Nardi was declared persona non grata. I don't care if we have "agreements in place" or whatever - to me this is typical QPR, just make a million signings to get us out of trouble. Always the next signing that will make the difference.
| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 12:54 - Jul 5 with 3267 views | PlanetHonneywood | The notion that Walsh should have been out on a good long loan before taking the gloves, has been discussed on here for years now. We've even compared him with Cooper getting L1 and even Championship experience, and the collective belief: Walsh should have been handled the same! Whether there is a keeper in Walsh is a moot point, but finding the answer as much as whether he had/has real potential, has been cocked-up by QPR. How the hell your number four option (Cooper) looks to be in a better position than your number one (Walsh), is ridiculous! I wonder what they're planning for Matteo S? | |

If you look at the save percentages for all Championship keepers last season Murphy Cooper was our best performer, although he only played 8 games so it's a small sample. 56 goalkeepers played in the Championship last season. This is how our lot compared for save percentages: 21st - Murphy Cooper, 8 games, 68.8% save percentage 34th - Ben Hamer, 7 games, 64.7% 42nd - Joe Walsh, 23 games, 61.5% 47th - Paul Nardi, 17 games, 60.3% Bizarrely some of our former keepers were even further down the rankings: 49th - Alex McCarthy, 7 games, 60.0% 52nd - Seny Dieng, 3 games, 56.3% 54th - Asmir Begovic, 11 games, 55.3% Honourable mention for Joe Lumley who only played twice but finished 10th in the rankings with 72.7% save percentage. There must be something in the Loftus Road water. https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/

Great post. As I've said previously, players take a while to settle in and get used to their new team mates and new ways of playing. I'd want all our new signings completed before pre-season ends, so the newcomers already feel reasonably at home. The squad is currently not strong enough to jeopardise the games in August, nor is it likely to be in foreseeable future

In an ideal world but it rarely happens. Players often take time to make their minds up and if our first preference goes elsewhere, then we move down the list. We aren't the biggest payers and London is expensive, so players may choose better options for them, if they can.
| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 14:22 - Jul 5 with 2913 views | JamieNaz | Lads, it's QPR, we will 100% be making signings. We are good at signing players. It's what we do. Whether they are good or not... Well, usually not. There are probably loads of keepers we could sign on loan. Not actually fussed about a keeper. I'm sure we could get a decent one in on loan from a premier League team for not a great deal of money. Midfield depth and a new physio team is more pressing | | | |

Yeh I’m pretty comfortable at the moment. Season starts later this year too. We all agreed we needed a goalkeeper and for me Walsh leaving would only confirm that the club agrees and we will be getting one. I’d be more concerned if Walsh was sticking around TBH, I’d probably knock half a dozen places off my prediction. How we’ve recruited, retained and developed our keepers since Smithies left is a different matter.
