Indeed we do.
However, the gnarly old warhorse is not there for any other reason but to add nouse at key times. You're not aiming to build your team around them but as we've repeatedly shown, sometimes you need an old dog to do the tricks a young pup has yet to learn.
Right now, there are some promising youngsters showing and choosing the right pathway from DS to Starting XI requires individual and collective thinking, for which patience is required. In the interim, a gnarly old fox can not only fill the gaps, but aid the development process. |  |

I’m not so sure about this argument about lack of experience in the team. Kemper has played a shedload of matches in the Dutch Eiriedivisie, Dunne has certainly got experience, so has JCS and Handsome Ronnie. In midfield Varane has had two seasons at this level now, Chair is approaching 300 games for us, Smyth has had plenty of seasons, Madsen is now 26 and has a lot of games under his belt and up front both Kone and Burrell have been around the block a few times despite their ages. Mbengue, has also had a few seasons in the Chamoionship and League One. And looking at the even younger players Morgan has now got good experience, the same with Vale, Poku and Saito.
What we have now is a very good and very talented squad that is growing together and has age on their side meaning that only selling players at good profit would necessitate getting replacements in. I feel that this is the best squad we have put together since our last relegation and with the likes of Isak and Sanyaolu and hopefully Pearman coming through we may not even have to buy those replacements. |
I think there is a difference between having experience and having Championship experience. Ward has none, Kemper has none. Others like Burrell have half a season, Kone, Mbengue have one season. But others as you say have plenty like, Chair and Dunne. Its about getting the blend right, so hopefully losing Champioship 'smarts' of Cook, Field and Hayden can be offset and a fully fit Chair would go a long way towards that |  | | |

Glen Kamara is presumably the club’s answer. His arrival was apparently “teased” in error for a few seconds before being taken down.
Lots of posts saying “he doesn’t fit the model”, “he is past it” etc so quite hard to please all the fans all the time. But I agree we used to be known for getting the last bit of magic from older players and the odd one in the squad would be invaluable. |

Like the idea of this signing, adds experience and will be our only player over 30. Different profile to any other CM's that we currently have, even though he initially sits deep he can carry the ball, is skilful, uses his body well to move opposition and looks good against a press. Big tick as a Loan move!

His wiki page says he played Sunday league for a team in Ladbroke Grove so that definitely figures.

I guess we sign crocks, because our performance director in football who oversees our approach to injuries and keeping all our players ready and available has an unbelievably good track record - aww hold on a minute !!!
Kind of only joking but its not as if most of our squad are not injury prone without adding to this with every single signing we make.
I do appreciate we are shopping in the bargain basement bucket at times and some of these players would not be available to us at their true price if they were ever presents but a whole squad where perhaps up to 70% get regular long term injuries is a very sketchy strategy.
I am hoping the recruitment and performance team know better, but it is slightly scary.
And we have had two injury ravaged season as it is !!!! |  |

I like the idea of it too, we desperately need some steel and experience in central midfield.
It looks like this one could actually happen but if not, Beni Baningime is available. He played 26 league matches in central midfield for Hearts last season and has just been released, possibly because McInnes, Hearts' manager last season, has moved on to Rangers. Hearts have had a huge clear out. | |

If you take the last 2 I think they both fall in the worht the risk scenarion - Lamptey definitely (for me) and Kamara, assuming this is true, is a loan only so not a 4 year contract or someone we can't shift if it doesn't work out.
I'm pretty pleased with our signings to be honest, pretty positive (on paper at least) with all of them. We have taken some risks, but they are calculated. | |

I disagree
Totally get that fitness is a risk with any player.
We could sign a Hercules type who has been ever present for a number of years and, knowing QPR, he’d strangle himself in a freak accident whilst being photographed with the scarf over his head.
Our fitness record is appalling
Our record with players who have known injuries even worse
This is the Championship
It’s a war. It’s 46 battles. You need warriors and mavericks and you need fit and available players in a well balanced squad with a good degree of experience and game smarts.
I don’t see that in our squad.
We’ve got far too many injury prone players meaning a dearth of cover in some key positions is very, very likely.
If that occurs we also have a lack of experience and game smarts that will restrict our ability to dog it out in tough runs. A couple of Steve Cooks would be an immense help to DS level players if they need to be chucked in for a few matches. That leadership is in short supply.
I am positive that when the sun is shining and all the cards fall in the right direction for us then we should do okay. Hopefully that can be the case for a large chunk of the season and everything is peachy.

It's looking like Kamara will arrive. If he is coming on loan with an option, it seems worth a go, but I have two questions.
Why did he not start a game for Rennes last season? He did have an ankle injury in February that kept him out for the month, but he only played in 4 games as a sub all season.
Has he had a preseason and is fit to play? From what I gather, he's not been involved in Rennes' friendlies. |  | | |
