I assume he's backing Ben Williams then? Quite the gamble if the same thing happens next season...
he has to back williams otherwise the line of we dont have many injuries is as we all know utter bollax ,otherwise why would he have need to sack him ? as somebody said earlier hes surrounded himself with yes men , they wont upset the apple cart because if a new person did come in maybe they would also be found out and loose there own jobs, would love to get a full explantion on furlong leaving mid way through a decent season for the dev squadas well.
So what I have gathered from both interviews, is that both of them haven't admitted we have had an issue with injuries this season, and neither of them have offered any insight into whether anything will change, regarding how they do things and Williams has admitted they fiddle with the availability stats.
Probably the biggest issue at the club.
Once again though, they are both doing that thing where they throw out numbers and statements which are hard to prove. Nourry in particular has a real narcissistic streak, why would you mention that you had other opportunities? How does that relate to anything? 'Look at me, I am important'.
Not everything he does is bad, some good things have happened at the club in his tenureship, but I just really dislike his character. I can't help that, it's a personal opinion formed over 2 different face to face meets, the fans forums and these interviews.

Our record against the top 8 this year… Lost 7-1 to Cov, beat them 2-1 at home. Handed our ars twice over by Boro. Handed our ars by Ipswich. Away to come. Beaten at home by Millwall. Away to come. Beat Hull twice. Easily beaten twice by Southampton. Beat Wrexham away, lost the home game. Lost at Derby, home game to come.
In fact, not to labour this point, but let's look at last year's top eight...
Leeds - Lost 2-0 at theirs, drew 2-2 at ours having led 2-0 Burnley - Drew 0-0 at theirs, got our ars handed to us at ours 5-0 Sheff Utd - Drew 2-2 at theirs, lost 2-1 at home Sunderland - 0-0 at home, won 1-0 at theirs Coventry - 1-1 at home, lost 1-0 away Bristol City - 1-1 in both games Blackburn - lost 2-0 away, won 2-1 at home Millwall - drew at home, lost away
So, we've won two more games. But, also, nine defeats this year versus six last year. (with three still to play) 36 goals conceded this year (three to play) versus 22 last year.

Our defensive record this season isn't spoken about enough. But weirdly I don't think that's down to the back 4.
GK, the 2 midfielders in the 442 and the hating the ball. How will we fix that?

He's certainly done some very good things since he came in, I think recruitment of players has improved, far from perfect and we've spent more but it feels like we are building a decent side here. The expansion of safe standing, lower school end becoming home fans, sponsorship of stands all good points.
But for all that he feels like someone desperate to be seen doing everything differently when it feels like smoke and mirrors. I think that will take him quite far in football, so I get it but things like saying he's not doing a DOF role and then listing all his responsibilities which is basically what Les ferdinand and Lee Hoos did between them before. He's doing both roles just calling them something different. I might not agree with that way of doing it but if thats the way the club want to run things thats fine, just own it.
Same as the bit about we have not lost to bottom sides and have beaten top sides is, beneath the surface, clearly not true. Blackburn battered us 3-1 at home last month. Of the 12 teams below us we've played 9 of them since Boxing Day and dropped points against 6 of them. That's not terrible by any stretch but not brilliant either, why say something that clearly isn't true.
Our Record against the bottom 8 this season is 8 wins 2 defeats and 5 draws. Last season it was 9 wins, 3 defeats and 4 draws so currently 2 less points with Swansea still to play. Both records pretty good really.
Against the current top 8 we've played 13 games against them and lost 9 of them and won 4. Last year against the top 8 we lost 6 games with 8 draws and 2 wins. It's 2 less points so far but with still 3 of the top 8 to play so I wouldn't say either is an improvement, it's pretty much the same.
I think he's technically right when he says the bad run was just a few games, but for me performance is a big thing. From Leicester at home in December, we've played 18 games and I think we've only really played well in 4 maybe 5 of those, a lot of them we were dreadful.
That's what really needs improvement: the level of performance across a season. Have a season where the worst you are is a 5/10 and you'll make the playoffs, too many times in recent years we go from a 0/10 to a 10/10 in the same week.

It will be interesting to hear part 2 though
Well clearly we're merely a stepping stone for greater things (just like our conveyor belt of young talent...)
If he thinks he's going to get a similar role at a Prem club then doesn't he need to prove his worth? But then football club owners have proved over many years they're capable of making stupid decisions, if you say the right things and have a shiny PPT.
I think one of the issues is he seeds the conversation with things like “starting businesses”, and “I worked for many other global clubs” (but conveniently leaves out the context…. Which was as a backroom staff recruiter in the main) and then alludes to the fact he “was offered other opportunities and turned them down”, in the context of his current CEO/DOF role (but again doesn’t provide the context of what role, but by linking it, implies it was at the same level).
Therefore, all of this it seems, is designed to big himself up in the process, and directly elevate his level of experience, which lets be honest, didn’t amount to much prior to QPR. How could it? He was only 3-4 years out of uni.
Yet, it’s quite plainly clear no other club in professional football - with his background and experience - would have been offered a job as the top dog at our level or above. It just doesn’t happen (apart from at QPR of course… ).
So, he comes across as regularly bending (manipulating) the truth to suit his own agenda. That then in turn makes the rest of the information feel off, or untrustworthy, because the preceding information has set a certain tone. And this is not a one off thing, it’s in most interactions. And has been demonstrated in club comms also.
That said, to balance it out, the strategy and direction the club have taken under his leadership- driven by the owners it must be added (who finally understood through trial and error what direction we needed to take) is bang on the money.
I don’t think it’s particularly innovative or forward thinking, but simply long overdue common sense for a club like QPR, and indeed *most* clubs in the EFL are following this strategy to a greater or lesser degree. The player trading model and all that surrounds it, including academy, is quite literally the ONLY strategy.
But at the end of the day, execution is absolutely key. And that is what I am personally watching, can he and we execute?
For instance, putting 3-4m down on Saito for example, which was not warranted on form or data, and 2-3m on celar, are going to be heavy misses that really set us back. Unless they now act decisively, rather than doubling down, and try to recoup and quickly reinvest on a new stock pick (young player) this summer. That’s what I would like to see. Be decisive. Act quickly.
The strategy is the easy part. Proof will be in the pudding, but overall, I do love the direction we are finally taking as a club.
Didn't Sunderland have/currently have a really young CEO as well?
*edit* Just fact checked myself, Chairman at 23, which is the equivalent here of the Lee Hoo's role Not sure if thats better or worse!

If you say often enough everything has improved people will believe you, football is full of people like this. I mean Peter Risdale is still getting jobs

Before I listen, someone be honest with me, because I am sure he won't based on previous appearances, will I learn anything I don't already know from listening? Or is it more of the same

You won't learn much that's new but I think it's worth watching just to get more of the measure of the man.

I completely agree. Get the team fit and relatively injury free, several Kone/Burrell types with a year under their belt, couple of additions in the remaining problem positions I think we could have an excellent season next year.
So why embellish? Why exaggerate? We’ve been mostly thrashed out of sight by the top eight this year. We’ve conceded 36 goals in 13 games against them.
It’s the same with this sudden point about loan signings and owning all our players. Last season we had Edwards, Saito, Dembele, Min Hyeok, Cashby… but he was overseeing that. The year before he got here we had no loans at all to start with, then he added Hayden and Hodge in January.
Nourry does shoot himself in the foot and that distracts from the good things that are happening.
Just on the loans, I think he is entitled to be pleased with that. Yes, we had 5, 3 who have signed, and only 1 this year. Next season I would guess they're aiming for zero. That's good progress.
He speaks management talk. How many of us have sat in a presentation and rolled ours eyes as a line manager highlights the good, but fails to mention the problems.
There are a couple of things coming up that he should be judged on, and harshly, if they don't happen. A big sale this summer and availability improvement.

Hi point regarding getting results against top 8 sides is disingenuous.
whilst he's correct in that we've won more this season 3 vs 2 last season our overall record against the top 8 this season is 3wins, 10 losses, vs last season 2 wins, 8 draws, and only 6 losses.
I think most people would regard our results against top 8 is a step back, not a step forward.

All the comments about results against the top 8 /bottom 8, if we want to directly compare against last season, you have to wait until the end of this season to see who actually finishes top 8 / bottom 8.
Some of the early games against Southampton and Derby for example, we were disappointed because both teams had started slowly and were below us when we played them (Southampton were 21st, Derby 17th) so they felt like bad results against teams in the bottom 8.
Currently they are 6th and 8th respectively, so does that make those results look less bad?

And they better sign a CM or two.
Personally, I wouldn't be massively shocked if he moves cycling Ben on to something else. He's not afraid to make changes and QPR love a popularist move.
If there is enough ground swell (I'd argue an injury to Kone would do it) then Ben would be off to pastures new tout suite, because it would be converted into goodwill for Nourry.

Yes, our defensive record this season is poor. That's probably down to a number of factors including but not limited to: - constantly shuffling the back line - lack of bonafide full backs, particularly at RB - inexperienced goalkeeper - DMs performing poorly and offering little protection to the defence - lack of bite in CM meaning we often lose the middle ground and/or go long - CMs with an aversion to passing forwards and cough up possession in dangerous areas - lack of height in the team leaving us vulnerable to set pieces - not defending from the front particularly second balls dropping in and around our D

It's all well and good him claiming he's not doing the role of CEO and DoF because the role of DoF doesn't exist but it seems like he's quite involved in the DoF stuff.
I'd associate a DoF with all things football:- transfers, contract renewals, hiring managers/head coach, fitness and the game model. We've had Nourry before say that if Belk and the manager disagree on a signing he'd get involved and take a closer look, which is basically how I imagine it went when Belk was reporting to a DoF. Nourry is the only person commenting in public about contract renewals and new signings including the new head coach when he arrived. He also spoke extensively about the game model when he first arrived. As you rightly point out he also oversees all the heads of departments that would have previously reported to the DoF.
So he does most of what you'd expect a DoF to do but doesn't do both jobs because technically the role of DoF doesn't exist. It's hard to argue with Hunter when he say's he thinks we're all idiots.
