| Ilias Chair - Got a feeling we wont see him again amytime soon !! 06:20 - Mar 24 with 27012 views | numptydumpty | Think there's more to his absence than we know. Match fit at Christmas time. Still no sign. Rumours he is doing community service - unsure about that myself. But his continued absence for me is odd. And if he is actually injured - he has been practically out all season. And surely he must be one of our highest paid players also. And yes, he has genuinely been our best player for almost every season, he has been here, but clearly has just had a bit part role this season. Also, now especially in his position, we are extremely well stocked with options aplenty. The only stumbling block, i can see wiith the club moving him on, with this clubs hierarchy as it is currently is, he would be sold somewhere for a bargain basement price, considering his qualities. Feel for the right club would be a great signing, however if his injuries are genuine, the price is difficult to achieve his worth. Would i get rid now myself - well he has been injured all sesson and must be one of our highest paid players. If we got £2 million plus, bearing in mind he is 28 also, and we have some very promising players in and around his position, i think he will go. I think Nourry will sell and great player that he has been for us, i tend to be uncertain that we should let him go. i think the player himself may want out also. The continued absence with no news tends to make me think this also. What do others think is likely to happen with this player ?? We are clearly going to let Field go, it seems, and he has been available all season. i would keep Field myself but maybe Chair has played his last game for the club. He would certainly go with the blessing of all. A QPR Legend of modern times, no doubt, but even if fit, he is not neccessarily the main man anymore.. [Post edited 2 Apr 21:22]

I also hope the official line is correct that he was injured but had a set back. I still think he has a lot to offer the team. Would rather keep him than say get 2-3m for him. Would rather get that money for Field as creative players like Chair are hard to come by. I suppose we will see come the end of the season.

Agree totally... a fantastic player for our club and I would be be happy of he stayed and equally happy if he wanted to leave and got a move that was both good for him and us It as been a hard and stressful 2 to 3 years for the lad and a new start might just give him a fresh impetus and outlook on life Whatever happen I wish him well... he was sometimes the only bright spark in this club... and he certainly don't owe this club a penny

I'm not sure he needs a fresh start elsewhere. Coming back next season and being carefully managed, which we should be able to do, should be fresh start enough.

They can't force him to go if he doesn't want to. We saw that this season with Cook. How long is left on his contract? He must be one of our best paid players and won't leave for less money. Given his injury problems this season and last he's unlikely to get a decent offer from another club until he proves his fitness. And he can't do that until he gets back on the field for us. If he comes back playing well we won't want to sell him. And if he can't reach his previous levels we might not be able to sell him! If he has more than one year left on his contract a loan with an option to buy might work. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Wasn't really my point. Nourry clearly didn't want Cook but couldn't do anything about it. And Cook was on good money here and had no incentive to leave. We could find ourselves in a similar situation with Chair if the injuries have taken a toll on him and he's lost his edge. If he's unlikely to get better money elsewhere he will stay put and there's nothing we can do about it. Hopefully it won't come to that and he comes back as strong as before. But we won't know that until he gets back on the pitch and shows what he can do.

Hamstrings a notoriously problematic once torn, especially in a player who has a history of posterior chain injuries which he does from last season. Given the setback in February when he was almost ready, I wouldn't be surprised if they give him longer and we don't see him until pre-season.

Couldn't agree more. Saito, Poke and Dembele haven't exactly set the world alight whilst Chair is proven at this level. Unless a seriously good offer comes in, I'd like to see him stay.

Well no one really knows anymore, I guess we'll all have to wait until Steve brings a book out. From the wording on that last contract extension that went out we can only infer that Steve Cook had some extension linked to a number of appearances or similar, so he was able to take up an extra year, when it sounded like the club were not so fussed. I imagine its because when Gareth signed him it was on a decent wedge (like Begovic) and this has increased year on year to the point where its broken the wage structure? So, its no surprise that Cook didn't want to leave, or was unable to find a club to match those terms. Perversely, this goes against our game model of buying young talents and developing them for sale, but despite all of this Steve Cook has been one of our standout performers (again) and the side normally looks better for having him in it. He seems the right sort of professional character that the club should try to keep around and def one that our fragile youngsters should look upto, I'd imagine that Cook hasn't played a football match pain free for years! We should look to ease Steve into coaching if its not talked about already, we've got a few young centre backs who wouldn't do any harm in learning from him.

I don't really disagree with anything you say in principle. But.... 1. Nourry was vary petulant about Cook triggering that contract extension last summer. To me that speaks volumes to Nourry's inexperience and lack of maturity. But I think it would now look odd if Nourry wanted to keep Cook here either as player or coach. 2. Cook is still only 34 and has put in a good shift this season. I don't think he would have done that unless he wanted to keep playing next season either for us or someone else. 3. I agree that Cook on the coaching staff would be a big help to develop our young CBs. But isn't that what Steve Bould is already here for?
| Ilias Chair - Got a feeling we wont see him again !!! on 16:34 - Mar 24 with 10882 views | Myke | Not sure if this ludicrous thread is born out of International break boredom (certainly not an issue for Irish fans),or the vacuum created by the clubs ‘no information available policy, which allows rumours to flourish no matter how unsubstantiated. Firstly, Chair would not be the first gainfully employed person to do Community Service and in the extremely unlikely event that this was the case, it would not impact on his ability to train or play football matches. We have no reason to- apart from the clubs ridiculous self-imposed information shut-down - doubt that he is injured. That he was due back at Christmas and suffered a serious set-back in training. This is not unusual, when a player is trying to get back to full fitness that they get re-injured or pick up a different injury The club have form in perpetuating this nonsense. Last season, Dembele ‘’took a knock’ that kept him out for six months. Poku’s initial hamstring injury in August was a ‘slight strain’ which kept him him out until December. Likewise, Chair’s ‘set-back’ could be a lot more serious than stated. There is nothing, NOTHING to suggest that Chair is not happy or that the club wants to move him on. No shred of evidence to suggest this anywhere. Language like ‘get rid’ is extremely disingenuous when referring to our greatest servant over the past decade and best player since Eze was sold. When fit - and hopefully a strong pre-season will have him right for next player, he is our most creative, hard-working player, who has that unique ability to link midfield and attack together. He is equally potent on the left drifting inside - JS’s preferred ‘inverted’ model - or as a ten and provides vital cover to our left-back. A fully fit Chair IS our main man, and hopefully will be for many years to come Moving on from Chair, where is the evidence that we are ‘clearly going to let Field go’? Another great pro, who will hopefully be back in our engine room next season. | | | |

Well considered its a ludicrous thread you have written a lot of your own thoughts about it. In response to what you say No one is saying get rid, although its possible the hierarchy may well want this. He wont sell for much though ie two very badly injury prone seasons at an older age for injury prone footballers ie 28. We dont know if he will be able to reclaim his best form. Obvioulsy that is the hope but who knows with that one and when players start picking up regular long term injuries, it very often multiplies and occurs more often going forwards, especially at the age he is. We do have a lot of players in and around this positon who could all improve and provide potentilly higher sell on fees down the line than Ilias would make for us now. Amd yes Ilias himself will know when he comes back, he may not be the number one man going forwards and may want to move elsewhere himself. So the fact the thread exists for me is simply the very real prospect - whatever any of us want - that he could be moved on. That was all. Sorry Myke though for starting a ridiculous thread - whats my punishment - 500 lines or do I have to clean your boots for a month !!!! Consider myself told off Sir !!!!!! Regards your question about Field, obviously its a hunch he will leave, rather than a certainty. Why else would he be loaned out now. He could have had games but the club have chosen to give time Hayden, Morgan and Varane in these postions and.occasionally both Vale and Edwards have switched to centre mid also. Its a hunch not a decison made obviously. Maybe Norwich have a loan to buy option I agree with you actually i would rather he stayed but understanding our new hierarchy and him being loaned out, surely thats not a stretch to think he will be on his way. Both Chair and Field maybe moved on. Its hardly an outrageous statement given the model this club is looking to follow and nowhere did i say i neccessarily agreed with it. Just basing it on Nourry and co amd what they are saying and not saying as the case may be. [Post edited 24 Mar 17:38]

Humpty I always try to be respectful even when I totally disagree with a posters opinion. It would be nice I certainly if this was reciprocated so not sure how mocking my profession is relevant to the conversation. With regard to the ludicridicity of the original post, I branded it based on the complete lack of any fact or credence. I accept you may have plenty time on your hands and I accept that it's a forum for opinions, but my goodness surely there has to be a modicum of credibility to your view that Chair may have played his last game for us. I mean at least a rumour or a rumour, but no nothing absolutely zilch. But what the hell, you were bored so let's see if this kyte will fly. As for the language, 'get rid', I was quoting directly from your original post, which is what I meant by disingenuous. Indeed not your first time being disrespectful to Chair, the other day you likened him to JCS, a shyster who is only available when looking for a new contract. They are polar opposites in terms of (football) integrity and hard work. JCS is a marvellous footballer but has - for reasons unknown- chosen not to play football. Chair was an virtual ever- present for over 6 years. Finally you also make reference to 'at his age' He is 28, just coming into the prime of his career yet you are writing him off.
