The players had a lot to do with it, they shit themselves in the second half for 10 minutes which cost them the game. They had 3 great chances to go 2 goals up before that and kill the game off.
Also should be said Italy were very good that tournament, beat some good sides to win it, arguably the best side in that tournament. |  | | |

It feels like a national disaster here. Older people feeling sorry for the young who have never seen Italy in the finals. Lots of people blaming too many foreign players in Serie A, but as we know that is the case in England. Yet I think it is a problem for England, who again had a very easy group and a lack of strong opposition to prepare for the finals. This is why we so often fail when we meet strong teams in the semis. I hope I'm wrong for these finals. |  |

I remember when the Seria A was the dogs danglies in Europe - top stadia, household names, dominant force globally and attracted the creme de la creme of players worldwide.
In contrast we (the English) had hardly any players make the journey across to play for big Italian clubs.... I can only really think of (the dreaded) Hately, Luther Blisset and then I'm scratching my head.
Seems the wheel has turned as it's the same in reverse now.
You've got Tonali at Newcastle but I can't think of too many top Italian's plying their trade in the Premisership.... maybe Chiesia at the Scouse but he's very bit part.
Anyway...... as noted above.... congrats to B&H and especially to Dzecko who was MoM and played with passion belying his 40 years of age.
I really admire these so called smaller nations who pull on their national shirt with 100% pride and are very much in the fast lane now for organisation, skills and ability. |

'Absolutely unforgivable' is a bit OTT IMO.
A great oppotunity, granted, but they beat Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, and England and held a still unbeaten record run of 37 games at the time.
2020 Italy were no mugs.
That they were shit prior and after is irrelevent really, it's just bad luck we played them right in the middle of a great streak.
I'd also argue, that Pirlo won that game on his own for them. Unplayable.
The England team that won in 1966 didn't qualify for 1974 or 1978. Football is fickle but I don't think the West Germans consider it 'absolutely unforgivable' that they lost us just because we we shite afterwards.
There is an entitled streak in England fans that we absolutely have no right to IMO. Losing to Japan at Wembley is more concerning that losing to Italy IMO. [Post edited 4 Apr 8:51]
