I thought it was interesting that Cookie said he'd enjoyed working with Bould last season. Mainly because we were generally pretty awful at the back and leaked goals despite Cookie's best efforts. I thought Bould was an inspired decision when he came in but when you ship 70+ goals in one season and in the last 6 games your players aren't even trying to close down shots, and you've been hit for 4, 5 and 7 during the season you'd think that whatever Bould is being paid it would be better off spent on someone else who can get the team to defend. Or maybe just spend that money on better catering? |  |

My over riding memory of Diarra was in a rare moment of breaking from the rigid pre match routine I watched him coach Varane for about 5 mins on turning on the ball and moving forward . They did it over and over …until the game started and Varane proceeded to pass backwards at every opportunity.
Not sure what it says about them both really.
But always felt like this was a bit of a stepping stone for him.

I saw decent improvements in a number of our players during last season, M'Bengue, Edwards, RND, Madsen, Vale, Smyth, Kone and Burrell. The only player I can think of who seemed to get worse was Saito, possibly something to do with his International duty. I think that is Credit in great part to the 1st team Coaching staff as a whole, of which Diarra played a big part. Hard to know from the outside which individual coaches have been good or bad. Stats don't tell the whole story. | | | |
