I did say in the season preview I wasn't sure about this 'us against the world' narrative that Southampton were just going to hit the ground running and be fine. How many of those players want to be there? How many of them are pissd off with Eckert for what happened?
They've looked utterly half arsd for the first 30 at least. Let's see how they respond in the next hour... |

I think that was mainly down to the referee as Manning had already taken the throw in.
Far more pleasing was Harwood-Bellis missing an easy chance to equalise in the last minute & not liking the sledging he received! | | | |

For the siege mentality mindset to work you have to convince yourselves and everyone else that to some extent you have been hard done by.
That loses it's punch when you have already put your hands up to systematic cheating.

The Saints fan in this site's preview sounded absolutely delusional to me. Still convinced it was no big deal and totally unfair to them and how Boro lost so they should never have been booted out. If they start well they'll probably be ok but I can see it all getting really ugly down there if lots of fans have high expectations and a sense of grievance and the players aren't up for it. | | | |
