How the other half lives.

Stoke spending £10m+ on Galbraith from Swansea

I'm always amazed at the financial world Stoke seem to operate in compared to us, but the really annoying thing about this is he's exactly what our midfield needs and Swansea picked him up for a song a year ago after he'd spent the year making Charlie Kelman look good - so we must have bloody watched him.

Hi wiki says he's only 5' 9".

I think we've more than filled our quota of short players!

5' 9" would be quite tall for our attacking midfielders.

Our cupboard of central midfield players who pass the ball forwards, on the other hand, remains fairly bare.

Why are Stoke so apparently minted? Is this what ruthless naming rights brings (which we have now followed)? I wonder where this puts them with PSR/FFP...

Starting to get very concerned the club is betting on Morgan, Madsen and Varane. Plus a couple of DS lads.

Surely they won't.

Well, it's very early in the window. Kone didn't arrive until after the first game last season, and we made three signings in the last week of August when we'd already played four times.

I wonder if we're a bit one-in one-out this summer as well. RND has gone, to be replaced with a free transfer from Holland, probably similar financial commitment there. If Varane goes you'll get another CM, maybe?

As Hunter has many times, we've spent serious money for us over the last four transfer windows. Celar, Madsen, Santos, Varane, Kone, Burrell, Saito, Poku, Dembele, Edwards, Obikwu. That's a serious outlay for us. Offset to some extent by Eze, Kelman, Dykes and Armstrong, but I can't imagine there's pots and pots of money to spend this summer.

I mean, it's QPR, of course we'll be making signings. Field has gone for some money and will be replaced. My Millwall journo reckons this Roman Galves right back is a lot closer to signing for QPR than is being made out.

But as when Eze left the first time we've had our moment to outlay, and to a certain extent we've done that and this is what we've got with it.

Even with the Bet365 con jobs, I just don't get it.

Transfer Market has them down as spending £20m already this summer (though I think the Galbraith fee is being overblown) and you have to go back to Harry Souttar in 22/23 for the last time they sold anybody at all for serious money.

We've already lost Field and Hayden from midfield.

If we sell Varane or Madsen as well I reckon we will need at least two CM signings.

I think Hunter's analysis about our finances is probably right.

We might need to do some serious horse-trading this summer.

This is where Nourry will really need to prove that he's up to the job.

Well, also, I think the club are considerably more in love with "Jona" than the fans are at this point. But this chat probably belongs on the transfer rumours thread.

It's the second of July and England are still in the World Cup, so forgive me if I don't give a flying one about QPR's transfer activity right now.

Another big signing for Stoke, Luke Graham from Dundee now. No fee quoted but Dundee have said its a club record for them, and given they once sold Claudio Caniggia to Rangers for a few million its obviously going to be more than that.

Bet365 must have had a bumper financial year! Not much money swilling around the Potteries for the regular folk...

Portsmouth have reached an agreement to sign Serbian forward Marko Milovanović (22) from Spanish second-tier side Almería, according to @FabrizioRomano.

The deal is understood to be worth €6 million (£5.1 million), with Almería also securing a 15% sell-on clause as part of the transfer.

No idea if this fella is any good or not, but where the hell are Portsmouth getting this kind of money from? Have they sold someone for decent money?

By no means a done deal.

Unless he suffers from frequent, lengthy bouts of cramp, no way is he passing Preston's medical .

Not transfer related, but it seems Preston have agreed a deal to play their EFL Cup 1st round tie at Goodison Park as their new pitch won't be ready.

That must be an interesting one for stattos in years to come, playing at a ground still standing, but no longer in regular use (and despite Everton saying they will keep it in use for the womens side I suspect at some point it will go when the economic realities of a 40,000 seat stadium having 2,000 people rattling around inside it a handful of times a year bites...)
