I thought that game was incredible.
One of the games I'll remember forever.
Egypt were fantastic on the break, but Argentina in possession were a great mixture of Spain's slower technical control and England's faster technical control.
Neither team could defend against the other.
Egypt's disallowed goal was a beaut, and it's a choker that it was chalked off, but it was the correct decision in my opinion.
Above all, though, and beyond all, it was just a treat to see, maybe for the last time, Messi command 21 men and 1 football to his will.
What an extraordinary player.
We are so goddamn lucky to have lived in his world. |  |

Morocco knocked out the Netherlands.
More importantly though, it was a very good match to watch, as was the Argentine - Cape Verde game. I'm expecting Colombia to play them in the next round & that would be a 50/50 call as to who wins.

Morocco knocked out Holland on penalties
Egypt was leading 2-0 and I thought right there that’s the biggest upset of the tournament to date but not to be
Argentina did their thing, with a missed penalty and a fortuitous post VAR sanctioned foul call that chalked off a wonderful Egyptian counter attack goal. We seen these given day in day out in the EFL
Argentina wil have to sort out that defence if they hope to go far from hereon |  |

Yes, it's definitely been very questionable. The worry is that while refs can and have been bent in the past, anonymous worker droids in the Death Star are easier to manipulate.
VAR clearly doesn't stop inconsistency in decisions, often in the same match, so what exactly is it there for? You could make an argument for offside calls. After the 'snickometer' in the Croatia match, you wonder what they will add next. | | | |

If you look at all the VAR decisions versus all the wrong refereeing calls due to human error, it is six for one half a dozen for the other for technology versus human
Which means VAR did not really reduce error calls because it also made many controversial calls and also ignore contentious and legitimate cases
So a load of money spent / wasted on a technology that can be a double edged sword. It probably would give the Lampard goal but also gives you Matanovic hair
The technology is not faulty but the problem is the human factor is still there, working / manipulating the outcome [Post edited 7 Jul 20:23]
