I thought that game was incredible.
One of the games I'll remember forever.
Egypt were fantastic on the break, but Argentina in possession were a great mixture of Spain's slower technical control and England's faster technical control.
Neither team could defend against the other.
Egypt's disallowed goal was a beaut, and it's a choker that it was chalked off, but it was the correct decision in my opinion.
Above all, though, and beyond all, it was just a treat to see, maybe for the last time, Messi command 21 men and 1 football to his will.
What an extraordinary player.
We are so goddamn lucky to have lived in his world. |
Best game of the tournament. Thought they were down and out but they never gave up .
That winning headed goal was sublime.
Credit to Egypt . They were brilliant and should feel aggrieved about some of the decisions against them.

Great post Brian, thoughtful, coherent and unbiased and I love the last paragraph.
Summed that game up perfectly, imo, as opposed to all the, "Woe is me" I didn't get the result I wanted, so it must be a fix, etc.

Totally agree that, whilst all the biased, negative, opinions as to the result of tonight's game are what they are, this is a stupid decision that makes no sense whatsoever and will open the FA up to all sorts of further and justified criticism.
I just hope and believe that France won't even make this decision a point of discussion! | |

Its hatred of a country that has a convicted felon in charge who humiliates young female reporters, treats other heads of state and political countries with zero respect. Posts social media posts of him as Jesus and then intereferes with a world football tournament, and yet there are still mamy americans that vote for him blindly.
Through my work, i have contact with two american families, fairly middle class, who want to move here as yhey cant afford crucial meds for their seriously unwell children.
And then after every few weeks some unwell child goes nuts but with gun in hand goes beserkbin their school and college, however the guns are for protection and then on top of that the felon in charge starts a potentially long running confloct which is completely unwinnable, many die umnevcessarily and all becauss he wants to deflect his name coming out as a bad man in Epstein files.
We seem to get rid of leaders more for just being ineffective, but this man has carte blanche to committ anything he wants and is endangering world wide trade and peace and the Americans ridiculously still keep him in office.
You did ask....
i know we dont do political but the land is messed up.
Appreciate like all countries most people want an easy pleasant and nice life like anywhere else, but especially if this man gets in again, he will try, even though currently its not possible but the reputation of the united states worldwide is at an all time low. I have an Iranian colleague and she never saw troubles there Agree.
And its not the teams fault and feel particularly bad for Balogun but the "president" is in charge and his country is viewed terribly all around the world and he still has free rein.
i cant say thats not exactly common knowledge.
Appreciate, we have a few on here that am sure live nice lives there. But.... that man.

Looking back at the Argentina highlights I don’t think it’s as bad as it seemed at the time. We know how ridiculous VAR is but our betters signed up for it so you get ridiculous things happening that pre-VAR nobody would have thought about. The Salah ‘foul’ is your typical big Prem player throwing themselves over at the most meagre contact. Egypt lost their heads and the defending for the winning goal is awful. Left themselves wide open at the back with the full-backs pushed right up. The big centre-half is dragged wide and doesn’t do enough to stop the cross and the other one does next to nothing while Fernandez gets a free header.

Morocco knocked out the Netherlands.
More importantly though, it was a very good match to watch, as was the Argentine - Cape Verde game. I'm expecting Colombia to play them in the next round & that would be a 50/50 call as to who wins.
3 of the last 4 games have had 5 goals scored. Very enjoyable. |

Not enough that Argentina has the easiest run to the semis of all time, also getting every possible bit of extra help from the officials.
Nothing to do with the fact that huge amounts of people will travel from Argentina to every game venue and the revenue bonanza that comes with that. And of course the Messi factor.
Anyone think Argentina wouldn't have got the pen denied to Kane v DR Congo or that they would have had the one given to Mexico awarded against them? No, me neither.

For me, the benchmark was set early on when Germany scored after a few minutes and the high footed challenge that led to the goal wasn't deemed a foul.
If that's not a foul then nor was Kane's the other night v Mexico as well as countless others during the tournament.
