Myke, are you sure that you're qualified to comment on Tariq Lamptey, when you state that you've never heard of him & only watch Irish players in The Premier? On that subject, if you watched Ferguson at Brighton, you would have seen Lamptey!
You are also making the assumption that he couldn't play 40 games a season based on his recent injuries. Perhaps he can't, but maybe, just maybe, he has now recovered & would be able to cope with that. After all, Vale looks as if he could & Field certainly could after their injuries.

People are picking out Sam Field - totally agree but his injuries weren't what you'd consider serious before we picked him up.
He is the one swallow though.
Vale is not a robust player but I have to give him credit for getting into the team after a nasty back injury - anyone with one of those has my sympathy. I wouldn't consider him a first team regular and I'd question him being able to do a run of games due to his stature and the nature of this Division.
Let's accept those two as the shining lights for the medical / sports science Dept. as injury recoveries. Not good is it for the last decade and beyond?
I could list out a number of players that dwarf that sample schedule but of recent times look no further than JGS, Poku, Taylor Richards (!!!!!), Chris Willock, Celar, Luke Amos and even of late Rayan Kolli who the club can't seem to get or keep fit if they are to be believed.
I really hope I'm wrong but this signing still seems madness to me - both for the club and the player (who should be looking for a club with a strong history of succesful rehab of players).

sorry to pile on the lad as he was an exceptional player at brighton his injury record is horrfic not just his acl last year massive chunks out with hamstrings knee injuires u name it. its a big ask to get hi in th swuad a fully functioning reg starter by this fitness team , 0

You make a fair point, except that Lamptey is a different beast from the other players you mention who were all young up and comers.
Lamptey has over a hundred PL appearances under his belt.

Unlike the other players you mention Lamptey has played regularly at a higher level than ours.
The concern with Lamptey is that at the age of 25 he has gone from top half PL to bottom half Championship in just over 12 months.
His career progress has gone very badly wrong, and he may never get back to what he was or could have been. But if we can get him fit and keep him fit (big ask with our track record) he could still be a very good player at this level. |  | | |

One of the reasons Lamptey has given for coming here is that West London is where all his family and friends are.
That could be a big factor in helping his rehab.
Having to recover from a serious injury when you have just moved to Italy, probably can't speak the language, and don't know anyone can't have been easy for him.

So it's closer to 32/68.
Not such good odds. And the trend is in the wrong direction.
I hope it works out for him and us but I wouldn't bet the mortgage on it!

Yeh Fiorentina being willing to release a player they bought just a year ago suggests they think he's completely done, doesn't it?
Although that £6m figure is reported as being as low as £2.5m elsewhere so perhaps, much like us, they thought it might be a risk worth taking and are just cutting losses after a year. That's a nominal fee for a top flight club these days.

Obviously the others you mention all played in League 1 or abroad (although Poku was pretty high-profile for Peterborough) but Lamptey featured pretty frequently for Brighton over the last 5 years. Just a thought: are our training pitches going to be accommodating enough for him? I'm sure I read that some players felt the pitches were too hard for them and their joints.

Poku was high profile for Peterborough but he was playing League One football and not regularly shown on TV in live matches.
All the hype about him was by word-of-mouth rather than any regular viewing of his matches.
Lamptey only played more than 20 games in a Premier League season once and that was 5 seasons ago. In that period Brighton were shown on average live on TV 16 times each season but I can't confirm which of those matches he played in.
Maybe it's me and my friends, but I don't know anyone who would watch most of those matches on TV or go out of their way to watch dodgy streams of Brighton matches not shown on BT/TNT, Sky or Amazon.
Maybe you and others have watched a substantial amount of Brighton games over the last 5 years but I think I can be confident in saying that most QPR fans haven't. [Post edited 22 Jul 13:08]
