| Man City - GUILTY on 17:23 - Sep 25 by DWQPR | Given that Burnley were successful in suing Everton for £35million for financial impropriety then this will mean that the footballing lawyers will have a field day. Imagine that amount of lawsuits that will hit City from every other club that has played them during the time they had been cooking the books? What one big fùcking mess FFP has become. Just scrap the lot and let owners spend what they want and if that means that clubs go bust because of their and their supporters over ambition then so be it. |
I agree with you and re. this bit - "if that means that clubs go bust because of their and their supporters over ambition then so be it" - there is a simple way to protect clubs. You do what the Canadian government does with prospective mining companies, you require them to provide a bond - cleared funds - upfront. In the mining scenario, it is used to ensure that the land can be made good once extractive activities cease.

Fck em! If we think there's been skulduggary so far, I expect its nothing compared to what will come. I wonder what the owners will do in terms of staying at the helm, and I bet there's a serious thought to 'crashing' the ship to avoid obligations and return as Manchester City 2027! Just as CN had formed a relationship with City group, too..

If I was City I would be tempted to take on the whole FFP nonsense as being anti-competitive. That would give the whole game something to think about!

| Man City - GUILTY on 10:18 - Sep 26 by KensalT | FFP is a farce. But in this case it's also the crux of the matter. FFP was introduced specifically to restrict Citeh’s lavish spending and to stop anyone else with massive pots of money and a dodgy reputation that needs washing from copying them. This is the PL’s chance to really hammer that message home. That's why I don't think City will get off lightly. |
If it’s about sportwashing then that’s what the fit & proper owners test is for, not FFP. City’s owners just wanted to do what Abramovich, Jack Walker & many more have done but because of these silly rules resorted to ‘cheating’ just like chelsea, us and several others have. Modern football is just VAR and FFP.

| Man City - GUILTY on 09:23 - Sep 26 by stevec | Seems like they can’t banish them to the EFL as it’s a separate body, and they’re not going to throw them out altogether. Given our £42m fine has essentially hobbled and condemned us to 10 years of bottom half of the Championship, perhaps something that eats away at them in a similar slow fashion should be carried out. Total up how many seasons indiscretions and give them a 12 point deduction for that many seasons going forward. Will stop them winning the title and over time, top players won’t want to go there. |
If this isn’t a case worthy of expulsion, I’m not sure what is. I can’t imagine the Premier League have any obligation to find another league for them to play in so if they can’t find one that’s just tough. There will be one though. If the Football League won’t accept them (I’m sure they will) why can’t they can go lower? If Welsh clubs can play in the EFL why can’t an English club play in Wales or Scotland?

A separate body should be appointed to adjudicate those claims. £500M of the £2BN to be set aside for grassroots and non-league ground improvements. No, it's not. I don't think anyone believes the UAE or Saudis got into football or golf, etc because of their love of sport. They wanted to promote the image of their countries around the world to attract business investment and tourism while the going is good because they know that oil won't last forever. The fit and proper person test has nothing to do with politics or the motives of the buyers. The owners test specifically looks for four things: - Unspent criminal convictions for fraud, dishonesty, or other serious crimes. - A history of bankruptcy or insolvency. - Past bans from sports or professional bodies. - Previous involvement in running multiple clubs into administration.

I’d look at the number of years they’ve been found to be cheating and demote them the equivalent i.e. if it’s 8 years, plus 3 years obstructing the enquiry, put them in tier 12 so that they spend atleast 11 years away from the Prem.

Fine, but FFP wasn’t brought in to stop sportswashing, there’s no moral compass involved, it was simply brought in to protect the status quo. Owners spending lavishly goes back to the days of Sunderland splashing out to win their titles and probably further back than that, the idea that it should suddenly be restricted is ridiculous. If the owners aren’t putting the club in debt then what’s the problem, why is Man Utd being £1bn in debt ok but City’s owners putting money into the club an issue, it makes no sense.

| Man City - GUILTY on 14:56 - Sep 26 with 1063 views | SoCal | FFP is a joke be should not be wrapped up with unfit owners. FFP is an arbitrary (?) ruling with no legal basis, legitimate wealthy owners should be allowed to do what they like with their hobby or any other business - provided its legal. You wouldn’t stop an art collector over paying for a Rembrandt because they liked it. Which leads me to the main point which is this, this is how Liverpool Man Utd. Arsenal Tottenham etc built their clubs owners doing what they want, spending what they want completely unchecked. Now others want to do it’s UNFAIR. BOO HOO I actually dont care what happens to City but loved the last 10 years of Liverpool Chelsea etc whining | | | |

Putins right hand man was cleaning their ill gotten gains for nearly 20 years, so far worse. I say fine City £10m, properly draw the line and move on. Otherwise walk into every club unannounced with auditors. All these ridiculous fees being paid between certain clubs for youth players to help each other balance the books needs to stop, too. They’re all at it.

Sounds fair but in reality it will be:- 35 point deduction towards the end of this season (enough to prevent them being relegated) transfer ban for 2 seasons (City have signed a lot more players than usual recently in anticipation of this) £200 million fine (a drop in the ocean for them) Nothing to see here: business as usual.

Thing is, the Arab mindset starts out big; just look at the Saudis big plans for their sovereign fund, and what's actually going to be delivered. The Dubai Emiraties have over-extended themselves massively and their Abu Dhabi cousins have had to bail them out. As for the Qataris, huge post-2022 plans, now reduced. Always found the attention spans of some Arabs not to be as deep as their oil wells. I still think they'll look to get out before they consider staying to put right if they get hit hard.

I thought that was what I said: "FFP was introduced specifically to restrict Citeh’s lavish spending and to stop anyone else with massive pots of money and a dodgy reputation that needs washing from copying them." So actually we agree. FFP has always been about the tiny circle of elite clubs making sure another Man City (or Abramovich, or PSG) didn't come along and throw silly amounts of money around to buy their way to the top. When I mentioned 'sports washing' I was hinting at the Saudis buying Newcastle. I wasn't trying to say FFP was all about sports washing. My bad if that's how it came across! As other posters have said, ffp is there to stop new clubs competing on a level playing field with the cartel. If it hadn't been city hoovering up players and trophys, it'd been one of the old elite- Liverpool, man u etc. It wouldn't have been us, Watford or stoke. My hope is that they aren't relegated to the championship - they'll just cut a swathe through it next season, smashing teams all over the show and taking up a promotion place. Their player shopping this year suggests to me that they know what's coming - massive fine and transfer embargo. [Post edited 26 Sep 18:05]
