Given that Burnley were successful in suing Everton for £35million for financial impropriety then this will mean that the footballing lawyers will have a field day. Imagine that amount of lawsuits that will hit City from every other club that has played them during the time they had been cooking the books? What one big fùcking mess FFP has become. Kieran Maguire, sort of football's grown up in the room, has said all along they'll be guilty. You can't automatically relegate them because the Prem and the EFL are separate beings - EFL doesn't have to accept them. But you can deduct them enough points to effectively be relegated and given the punishments handed down to Forest and Everton etc for so-called 'minor breaches' he'd expect it to be 60-100 point range. Which would be extraordinary. |

If the EFL refused to accept clubs relegated from the PL then the PL would say fine, no more promotion and relegation between the two organisations!

Has any club ever been demoted mid season?
I mean, how would you make that work?
Would they bring their current points tally down with them, or would they forfeit all the games they should have played up to this point?
Relegation mid season would be totally unworkable.
The players will all have individual sponsorship deals signed on the assumption they will be in the PL and competing for all the big trophies. How would you square that off? I don't think you can.
The only way I think you could make it work is to kick them out of the league for the rest of the season and force them to start again further down the pyramid when next season starts. But legally that's a whole new can of worms, and again the players impacted would be getting lawyered up with the PFA backing them all the way. | | | |

It will be another 12-18 months minimum before any punishment is announced if they appeal so it could/would be easily manageable timing wise.
More likely they’ll come to an agreed settlement with the PL where they refute any guilt but “agree to draw a line under everything” in return for a huge fine and a small points penalty. | | | |
