But North Battersea have somehow managed to get away with cheating. The £10million fine for the bribe to Eden Hazard’s agent to ensure he signed for them as opposed to ManUre for £29million and then they eventually sell him for around £120million is so laughable it makes you think that the PL itself is bent. To allow them the sale of their women’s team to themselves for £200million when that team owns no infrastructure or other assets and no doubt held a load of debts considering the level of support they receive being akin to an average supported league two club, could you ever imagine a team like Barnet being sold for the same sum? And then the sale of the hotels? Again to a company in their own umbrella of companies! The lack of proper sanctions against them has been an utter fraud in itself. |
Most of what Chelsea has done is to the detriment of the players involved and to the league as a whole. But MOST of it has been within the rules, it's just totally against the spirit of things. |  | | |

I wouldn't take Stefan Borson too seriously.
He was adamant Southampton wouldn't get a points deduction for Spygate. He blocks everyone on Twitter who picks holes in his arguments - I speak from experience on this matter :-)
Neither Borson or Maguire are litigation lawyers.
And to be frank, there is no direct precedent for cheating on this scale. [Post edited 27 Sep 11:55]

Oh yeah, definitely not the oracle. But also a better indicator of what punishment awaits than a (now deleted? Possibly phantom?) tweet from David Ornstein about what sanction Arsenal would prefer.

However, one example of how seriously the breach will be punished - and why you can compare - is that Everton were docked eight points for two minor breaches of PSR, that they admitted. Man City have apparently been found guilty of seven separate breaches of FFP/PSR in the PL alone, as well as a further five tied to UEFA, none of which they've admitted.
When it comes, the punishment will be hefty. When/if it might be delivered, that's a bigger question.
That's all I was driving at when lassel proclaims it'll be a points deduction large enough just to curtail European future competition and a fine. No way could it possibly be just that. No PSR would ever be adhered to again if that was the case - and Arsenal (along with Man U/Liverpool) definitely don't want that. |  | | |

The most interesting line is that the Premier League still hasn't issued any statement on this and that The Athletic leaked the story.
I wonder why the PL is keeping so quiet!?

If City get hit hard it’ll be for the FFP/PSR bit, that’s what Everton & Forest got stung on, chelsea apparently wouldn’t have breached FFP/PSR if they’d included their illegal payments in their accounts, which makes you wonder why they did it in the first place. |  |

If the league required a published salary cap for each club it would, largely, prevent this kind of travesty. It's one of the few things North American major league sports (with exception of baseball) have got right. All salaries, and other contract details are made public.
Of course, moving players in and out of farm teams helps balance a squad's finances, and there are other 'work-arounds' but they're comparatively trivial. To my knowledge nothing the scale of this debacle has happened here since the "Black Sox" scandal in1919 | | | |
