Not sure we’d put 3 strikers on the bench away at West Ham.

JCS and Adamson were both barely walking by the end. Kemper pulled his groin before half time, I was amazed he came out again. Lamptey, sadly, everything we expected. No Saito, no Lloyd. God only knows what's going on with Kone but he looked a mile off again. Anybody still denying injuries are killing this organisation I just don't know what to say to you any more. That was a richly deserved 2-0 win last night turned into a 1-1 draw we were lucky to get because the team doesn't have enough gas or warm bodies to see it through.

Can’t really argue with that. But is it the players we sign or what we do to them once we are here?

Lamptey, you take that gamble. You bought your ticket, you knew what you were getting into. Wouldn't be here if he wasn't a wreck, would he? Others... I don't know. People can make their own minds up. 24/25 Cifuentes was left with no centre backs at one point, no strikers at another, repeatedly made reference to that part of the club in his press conferences, the club PRd that it was not a problem (Lee Hoos made it clear in the first line on the first page of that year's accounts he thought it was the key issue of the season). 25/26, promising season collapsed into five wins after Christmas and 15th again. Stephan said he didn't know what the group was capable of because he never got to see the group together. Now here we are again, mid-October, seemingly fit and well mid-20s footballers with limited injury history cramping up and unable to complete 90 mins. It looks pretty obvious to me, but it's just my opinion. Stephan asked everybody to show ambition last night or don't show up. Everybody followed his word, on and off the pitch. In the end, we ran out of energy and fit players again, so it's a draw rather than the win it should be. Kemper and Smyth stay on, we win the game. I don't think that's good enough. Standards etc.

I didnt clock Kemper pulling up before half time. Or even noticed he was struggling 2nd half. That does explain taking him off I guess. That Smyth sub was standard maneuver though, plus he was battered. Surely if you are doing in game managing injury prone players , you'll be taking off JCS on 60 or 70 minute, dropping Edwards back in there and juggling the midfield around or even bring on Varane.

| Injuries on 06:15 - Oct 11 with 1481 views | cpgerber | Its a big rotten apple in the game at the moment. The Dutch had 6 first choice starters either unavailable before the international break even started, or pulled up injured during it. FIFA, UEFA and the FA’s are burning the players and the game to the ground in their greed for money. There is no way they will do it, but we absolutely have to revert to a situation where there are fewer games. Just look at the recent premier league logs, usually about 2 teams at the bottom get clobbered and relegated long before season end, indicating there just isn’t enough quality for inflated numbers just to get more games. Trim the league numbers, reduce the number of cups and ditch the Nations League. And back to smaller Euro comps. Why do they even call it Champions League while it hasn’t been a competitions for champions for ages? [Post edited 11 Oct 6:18]

| Injuries on 06:52 - Oct 11 with 1414 views | HammersmithR | The frustration is every game so many of our subs are premeditated. There’s hardly any in game substitutions. West Ham were frightened of Smyth’s pace and directness, yet we take him off. We replace him with Vale who just doesn’t have his pace. But then the likes of Dunne, Edwards always seem capable of playing 90 mins. If you’re getting cramp…you simply aren’t conditioned properly. And don’t start me on Lamptey. Beggars belief how many players we have who cannot play 90 mins of football. Something just isn’t right. | | | |

I didn’t see Kemper struggling and JS said in his post match that it was planned, so I’d hope and expect to see him Wednesday. My guess is same 11 starting with maybe one change at the back, resting JCS or Adamson.

Sensible, well said, and pretty much what many folks have been saying and thinking for years. However, when did common sense ever get in the way of rapacious greed? Well, if fans feel this way the obvious course of action would be to stop buying the product; be that match tickets, TV packages, shirts and so on. The more we consume it, the more it will go on.

| Injuries on 08:17 - Oct 11 with 1228 views | ThGrimRanger | we’re in a hole and it’s going to take a while to get ourselves out of it. every club is suffering because players should never be asked to play 3 games in 8 days. however we’re suffering more than most. i can see our situation ultimately leading to over caution with players being held back from being available due to fear of reoccurrences | |

| Injuries on 09:00 - Oct 11 with 1077 views | superhoopaus | Third season running that injuries are holding us back from what this squad should be capable of. Yes, the calendar is a mess and 24 team leagues + international breaks don’t help, but the same problems keep happening under different managers. Whatever we’re doing with recruitment, conditioning or medical isn’t fixing it. | |

| Injuries on 09:18 - Oct 11 with 978 views | dmm | Has football reached the point where sports science etc cannot solve injury crises? It seems to me that many clubs in the upper leagues are increasingly suffering from this problem. The human body has its limits. | | | |
| Injuries on 09:21 - Oct 11 with 954 views | PunteR | We did just have a 3 week international break btw. This over flogging the players excuse is a bit thin. We're only really debating this now, due to the Kemper sub ,which was such an obvious issue. I dont think you can compare JS keeping Kemper on the pitch to see out the game for another 20 minutes, to Beale flogging Willock to death in multiple games. | |

| Injuries on 09:40 - Oct 11 with 899 views | francisbowles | With the way the fixtures have have been crammed into the first two months of this season, it is really difficult to know how many of the injuries are due to the old failings. If there is any improvement in that area of the club, it could well be undone by fixture congestion. Refs aren't always helping either. For example the battering that Smyth took on Friday might have been lessened if yellow card was out earlier. | | | |

The record is horrific, no question. But last season the one clearly “unique” thing we did (as far as I’m aware) was apparently to give players a “soft” pre-season in the hope they would gain peak fitness a bit later, and supposedly be stronger to see out the business end of the season. So much for theories, it was widely ridiculed, clearly unsuccessful and APPARENTLY abandoned. Fans seemed pretty agreed the first few games of this season that our players seemed much fitter than the start of last season - and stats showed they were running more than other teams and looking stronger towards the end of games. So if it IS something we are doing to the players when we get them, what is it? Because it’s nothing obvious to me. I actually wonder if it’s more the type of players we buy. Big guys like Jimmy and Ronnie look extremely resilient. As to maybe a slightly lesser extent do either tall players like Madders or fairly muscular ones like Mbengue. A lot of the injured players are these small, nippy winger and full back types. Maybe they have to be smaller for speed? But perhaps in the Champ you are better off with six foot four brick out houses (so Kember types rather than Lampetys). Obvs it’s not always as simple as that (Kember has also been injured for example) but en masse the Dembele, Saito, Poku type signing hasn’t really worked for us simply because they are not available enough. My hunch (and that’s all it can be) is that this might have more of an impact than anything the physios are doing, but who knows…?

On Kemper specifically, you can’t do much about those. Somebody went through his ankle after about 2 mins at Portsmouth. Same with Dembele, horrendous tackle. But Burrell, Kone, Poku, Lamptey etc etc.
