This is a very different English team than back in the day.
They will destroy this group without getting into second gear IMO.
I fully expect them to be in the semi finals at least and probably the final if they remain healthy over the summer / autumn .
Somebody mentioned they were at 10-1 odds and behind Belguim and Brazil, Argentina and France .If I was a betting man I would be all over that

I was in Chicago watching that a at Sports Bar just outside of Wrigley Field (The Cubby Bear). Very few other than my mate and I were interested in the game and we had to ask to put it on one of the too many screens.

Of course, if it had not been for a certain set of Hungarian officials in Melbourne and one a-hole, that should have been Australia. Nov 29, 1997 goes down in infamy and, what's the connection? The Oz manager was none other than Terry Venables.

That bar is still there! I suspect it hasn't changed since 1998 either.

Quite the draw for us US-based ex pats. And the match will be on the day after Thanksgiving, which is a day off for most of the country too, that's a nice result.

I do laugh at the England getting easy group comments I'm seeing on social media. They've earned it by being semi finalists and finalists in their last two major tournaments and cruising through qualifying (see Italy for a reference that this is not always guaranteed).

That earns you a top seeding and draw in a group with lower ranked teams. England haven't always been good enough to earn that seeding, at the moment they are.
