Keep or send back to Leeds? I'm of the opinion we should send him back , he is to injury prone for my liking.

Whatever his faults I don’t see the benefit in sending him back without a replacement

Keep him particularly if we manage stay around play offs.

He is decent at times and can provide good link up play.

Maybe Critchley can get more out of him than Beale.

We not going get much better in transfer window unless we strike unexpected gold with a rabbit out of the hat, and let's hope he is more available ie no more injuries.

I get the argument that of us needing players (forwards in particular), but on balance I'd be tempted to send back.

Roberts has played only 12 or so games (half the games this season) and in that time has scored the one league goal (plus 1 in league cup). No assists. Which admittedly is more than Armstrong (who has played a comparable number of games, won that pen)... but Armstrong is younger, shows more potential IMO and critically is our own. There are clearly issues around Mac Bonne but again he's ours till further notice so would rather see him involved somehow. (side note, interesting to see him in last weeks training vids) And if we're still short we could still look for a young out and out striker on the loan market - I suspect we could find someone just as (in!)effective as a striker on likely lower wages...though I guess there may be a cost in loan fees.

Personally I struggle to "get" Roberts. Some Leeds fans warned us of that when we got him - there are flashes in there but it is tough to know what position he plays. I suspect he's one of those players who is amazing in small sided games but doesn't fit into an 11 a side team - not at Championship level at least. Then there is the injury proneness the OP highlights. 24 next month and god forbid we actually get promoted by some fluke, we'd be obliged to spend 4m on buying him from what I understand....

If we are allowed to send him back, I would, on performances so far in my opinion he is not at the stage where I would pay 4 million to secure his services.
No one knows if he will improve enough in the future to warrant such a fee but we have to deal with the here and now.

If we could bring in a replacement loan player I'd prefer him to go back to Leeds. What are the rules regarding season long loans? I know the loaning club can recall in January, but can the receiving club routinely return a player or is it dependent on the agreement?

Tyler Roberts . on 07:22 - Dec 20 with 4135 viewsLblock

As there is an obligation to purchase clause IF we get promoted at the end of the season (settle down at the back there!!!); then I doubt we can return to sender.
It would probably cost us money to buy out a cancellation of the contract between us and Leedscum

We’re stuck with each other as I do t think he wants to be here either.
Hope the Critch can get a tune out of him

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I'd return to sender but it depends on a few things...

- can we send him back? Not all these deals have a break clause in them.
- would it cost us money? If we've paid a loan fee, or reached an agreement to cover some or all of his wage for the full season, then I suspect he'll be staying.
- who you getting as a replacement? Big risk trying to go through a whole second half of the season with just Dykes and Armstrong, and there's very little money in the pot to bring in anybody new.

Good points but you missed one: The postal strikes.

Sending him back by courier would be very costly

More worrying for me is the fact that he has not been in either squad since the return, but has appeared in our training videos over the break.

He suffered a minor knock before the break, didn't seem to be up to much before then. The PBBC said that he would be ready for Wales' WC squad, then wasn't picked.

I wonder whether he's OK to be fair. Not sure that he has settled and not sure how he has taken the Welsh rejection. He certainly hasn't looked happy playing for us for a while now.

There certainly is a player in there (as there is in Richards), but I can't help but think we're being short changed at the moment. If Albert and George Thomas are getting picked above them, you have to worry...

Can we go out yet?
Poll: What would you take for Willock if a bid comes this month?

Keep him… especially if we sell Willock in Jan, which looks a necessity now. Then flip to 3-5-2 and remove the need to have another creative starting next to Chair.

Tyler Roberts . on 08:47 - Dec 20 with 3918 viewsterryb

How much game time will he have?

I can't see much prospect of Chair, Willock & Roberts starting a game, especially IF Critchley likes to play two defensive midfielders. Personally, Roberts is the one of the three to sit on the bench for me & that is not worth having him on loan.

Of course, he could be in competition with Tim as our attacking midfield option.

With his injury record coupled with the fact he was not wanted at Leeds I don't think he is costing as much as people envisaged.

Willocks injuries and related form have hopefully scuppered that til the summer.

See both sides on this but on balance would keep him.

I know it was against Charlton's second team, but he looked brilliant when he made his debut in the cup, he's quick, has shown the ability to dovetail nicely with Willock and Chair (see Willock goal v Millwall, Bristol City away) and offers something a bit different to Dykes as a central striker. And he's clearly streets ahead of Bonne or Armstrong (for now) in terms of ability.

Would like a bit less Andre Gray style moaning at teammates about quality of passes into him and obviously his injury record is a big negative.

Probably keep. Not sure there is much else out there, so stick rather than twist.
Maybe if he stopped moaning so much he could concentrate on playing football and improve. He is playing in the Championship rather than the Premier League for a reason.

That position that Adomah played in last week is perfect for him. If he’s fit and interested, which he isn’t nearly enough.

I would need to see a lot more to want to take him on a perm deal.

Just had a quick google and see that it was reported that is only an OPTION rather than obligation to buy.

I think it becomes an obligation if we go up.

Leeds supporting mate told me that there is a player there, but shows it far too rarely. Add in the injury record and keeping him is up for debate.

I'd happily leave it to those who see him day in/ day out.

Is this a rare situation where everything opposition fans told us about a player turns out to actually be right? Either way, I'd keep him. There is something there and you may recall us turning to George Thomas and Mide Shodipo in recent games, he's a giant step up from those

The jury is out.......haven't seen much Premier stuff from him only a bit here and there.

Re does he stay or go.......It depends on what contract is in place and what he is actually costing. Also if he does go back we need another front runner to replace him - we cannot go through the rest of the season, if we are expectant, with only 2 strikers, not including MB.

Send him back.

If likely no one who is quality, available for a loan and who is in our budget as forwards cost the most, then still send him back. Here is why ...

We have Dykes, Armstrong and also Bonne. That's lite and not great, but with the money, what we can do is this ...

Offer Willock a bumper contract, with an option that if some Prem club comes in for £15m he can talk to them. We would want £20m but in this market, we shall be lucky if we get £10m even if he was under a 4-year contract which he isn't until we sign him up and he will know that.

Willock now knows he is getting paid what he's worth, he also knows his prem dream is still alive and we may get some real money from him if he does not get us promoted and instead we have to sell him. Remember his brother is a Nukes so, he knows what the Prem lifestyle is about and of course he knows he can do it.

This is investing the money better than another loan who is a risk, compared to Willock who is proven. You may say he could get an injury, well as we have seen with loan after loan, these loanees get injured as well. To me this is a much smaller risk with a higher chance of return ... much higher than more loans.

Spend the money on WIllocks contract, it's a much better investment.

Lets see what Neil Critchley can do with him, we'll need him through January and who knows Neil Critchley might just get him going to our advantage.

I think that's about right. Quality player, but fitness and motivation are issues. Critch can work on at least one of those.

I would love to send him back.

He is far to injury prone and imo has not done anywhere near enough to suggest he will be a good player at this level. 2 goals and no assists is a poor return.

We should try and get another one or two other strikers in January and if we can get rid of Bonne as none of the 3 managers this season seems to rate him (unless of course he was injured for the last 2 games).
