Not sure if anyone has seen this, but the PL are replacing the current PSR rules in the PL with new rules based on UEFAs new squad cost ratio.
This new rule would basically mean teams not competing in Europe are limited to spending 85% of their income on player wages, transfers along with agents fees, those in Europe will be limited to 70 percent.
I expect we will see these changes in the Championship as well. |  | | |  |

They also kicked the can down the road on a new funding share arrangement with the EFL, subject to them sorting out these new rules. So bad news for everyone outside the PL. | |

There's got to be a way that owners can blow as much as they like on a club as long as the debt isn't saddled onto the club and the funds are in place first so you don't get owners leaving £millions in unpaid bills otherwise the Championship will just become PL MKII where the clubs with bigger stadia will have the advantage (maybe the intention, will curtail pesky little clubs having ideas above their station).

They need to feck off and form the European/Saudi Super League. The PL is uncompetitive bar the few teams at the top. Even financially doped sides like Chelsea can't compete.
All three promoted teams may come straight down and be replaced by the three teams who were relegated last season, which would be quite something. I love the Championship but the top end is getting every bit as predictable as the PL, Ipswich notwithstanding. | | | |

It's the same when talking about "increasing match/non-match-day income". At some point whatever is in place (ground size/ticket sales, catering, merchandise, corporate facilities etc) is potentially going to max out. Then what?
Players then wanting ever more money. More, more, more. So you have to come up with yet more limited, exhausting and ever more difficult ideas (whilst still ensuring all existing ones are running at 100%) to get more money in. You get to the point where the effort put in is completely disproportional to where it's going and an ever fragile house of cards is building.
I'm all for people earning good money, I'm all for companies making a profit but the sheer greed (because that's all it is.... you don't need £100k a week to live) just has to stop. | | | |

This is where our academy needs to start producing. It's a topic done to death(i'm aware) but if the first team has a competitive mix of youth, senior pros and some up and coming lower league players you have a great balance and will ultimately reduce your payroll.
Possibly changing the structure of the players contracts could help as well - a bit FM/CM but weighting the contracts more to appearances/goals/assists/clean sheets.
I'm hoping our fresh new CEO is doing a root and branch study of the club and the behind the scenes is identifying ways to streamline and structure us better off the pitch. As Clive has said on countless occasions we are behind the curve on the money we can generate from sponsorship, see Stoke/BET365 for example.
Also, if we have a smaller 1st team we supplement it with the best young Pros coming through from the youth team. | | | |
