Millwall sign Barry Bannan 18 month contract 16:22 - Jan 28 with 2235 viewsnumptydumpty

Yes I know there is another championship thread for transfers but just felt highlighting this particular one because of the man's performances against us for Sheffield Wednesday. And at 36 years of age also.

Millwall very firmly in the play off race and signing a 36 year old on a fairly long term contract for Barry Bannans age.

Do we think Rangers missed a trick here and is going against the model in terms of transfers, sometimes worth breaking.

Think its probably an excellent deal myself. Hardly had any injury troubles in ten seasons. We always seem to sign younger players but all really with injury prone written underneath their player profiles !!!

Ten seasons at Wednesday - seven seasons nearly ever present, three seasons averaging thirty league games.

Below what it means to the guy leaving his football club.

No sell on value so wouldn’t meet the criteria.

We need cover in this position but let's be honest, Bannan isn't joining anyone to be cover. I'm taking Madsen all day currently

There are other reasons to buy a player and half of who we sell, are not likely to earn us much at all.

One who can hit the ground running from day one. Not all signings should be about the potential and the future. Sometimes its very important to get cover for the here and now and players that can help right away.

All about balance sometimes !!!!

He is unlikely to be first choice for Millwall who are doing far better than ourselves also. So he is clearly cover. Madsen could easily get injured. Bannan is 36 and will be 38 at the end of his contract and he has moved to a club who are doing markedly better but he is certainly not going there as a guaranteed first choice. Squad option and a decent one at that, also.

Too much of one thing is sometimes termed being "anal" if you excuse the French.Be interesting to see how he does there.

Verrrry interesting signing, but probably one that can only be judged this summer or next.

Wages?
Motivation?
Fitness?
Character?

Some signings of older players work like a dream - Wilkins, most don;t work at all.

This one might.

Taunting him playing for a moribund Sheffield Wednesday side is going to look a tad stupid as he turns in a MOTM performance against us at the Den in April.

They are clearly going for promotion. I can't see him sitting out their next three matches...

Great player at this level, but does not fit the profile of what we seem to be about, although think his signing for Millwall could get them over the line for a serious crack at promotion via the play offs. Just think 4 years ago if we had signed a Barry Bannan type player rather than Jeff Hendrick and Dion Sanderson when we could have seriously troubled the play offs.

Bannan is always fit, which doesn’t fit our profile.

So is Sam Field to be fair, love to see us use him a bit more alongside Madsen

No disrespect Numpty, but not sure why a player who is not ours, joining a club which is not ours deserves his own thread. The only reason he played well against us was because we let him. Everyone else man-marked him. If I was given the freedom of Loftus Road I’d look pretty handy too - at least for the first five minutes before I got knackered.

Regularly scored many goals each season.

I think we are allowed to create threads that are not neccessarily about QPR on here Myke, last time i looked. Actually was putting it out there, why Millwall who above us already rate the man and yet our transfers all seemingly young and no flexibility. He hasnt been just good against ourself Myke and he has been almost ever present for ten seasons.

But perhaps suggest to the posters who started a thread on Raheem Sterling, one on best three films and ones on Benfica that theres no relevance to those ones starting them on a QPR forum.

Cheers Myke. i take your point but dont understand the logic....

C'est la vie !!!

I’m sure he won’t play every minute but he’s a great fit. They’ve got plenty of strength and pace. If they need to go direct you want him throwing the bombs, either from deep or set pieces.

Possible risk he’s played an awful lot this season and is just knackered but they’ll be smart enough to pick and choose when to use him.

18 month contract is a ‘no brainer’ given his track record of being fit, and a threat to other teams.

It’s just that there is a January transfer thread, set up for this specific reason, not to clog up with unesscessary Threads. Fair point on Sterling (although I think that suddenly re-emerged after 4 years and he was a QPR player at one point). But other non-QPR threads don’t have an existing thread, that’s my point
