Manning just lost his bearings and his head there was no danger there just a stupid PK to give away.
Ireland got a pretty soft one themselves plus a very scrappy OG to take over that game .
Then they completly fell apart IMO and the managment dream team did not get enough fresh players on until too late got scored on and the shootout was heartbreaking.
Jimmy Dunne overhit 1 cross then passed up 2 more chances to whip it over and not sure if Vale touched the ball.
Luck of the Irish indeed a penalty taker knocked out cold 2 minutes after coming on leavin Alan Fcuking Browne to take a pi*s poor one easily saved .
Ref was allowing Chekia to kick the crap out of ROI all night without showing yellow cards and was chatting real friendly in the tunnel with their Captain after half gutless display.

The best way I heard it described was a Clare friend of mine was chatting to an English friend and the English lad couldn't understand why Irish fans didn't support England.
"But we support you", he said "why don't you support us back?"
"Well, ye gave us 800 years, we just want 90 minutes!"
Which is a great answer.
It's sport, it's craic, there should be mutual give and take.

Wales fan here - gutted that we lost on pens (again) and disappointed for both NI and Republic.
Regarding the hating England thing, I have lots of English supporting friends, so always happy for them when England get through. The main reason I find that Wales fans dislike England, isn't the players or the fans but the press and media and the way they go overboard.

There’s is a genuine hatred for the English national team here, which I always find baffling as the same people supportLiverpool, Man Utd etc etc.. But yeah it is to do with the occupation thing I guess. I worked in Denmark in ‘86 when the World Cup was on. Denmark beat Germany in the group stages - cue mass hysteria! So It’s not just the Irish,
What I also find confusing is the hatred that English fans have for English players. Regardless of what you think of Rooney, Lampard or Gerrard as people, they were superb footballers and I always admire great players no matter who they play for [Post edited 27 Mar 10:24]
