Its obviously directly after a weekend day. Because the game doesnt start until 1am, people who are watching in a pub may all still go out after an evening meal, so people are going to be incredibly tanked up.
Earliest its likely.to finish is 3am, 4am if goes to pens and then another hour open after that.
If England win, no one is sleeping if they any near any kind of estwblishment. If we lose, there will be all sorts of carrying on happening.
Anyone going to be watching in their local hostelry....
Interesting days ahead. Not sure as to the sensibilities of it though but do understand why.
And anyone ringing in Monday morning complaining of feeling sick or experiencing a troubling migraine, not sure you will be believed !!!

I personally think to allow all pubs to be open till 5am is total madness anyhow. That has the ability to go seriously wrong.
Anyhow about the only workplace in England and the UK that actively encourages lunchtime drinking and beyond is done in the constantly open house of commons bar.
People that are deciding on the laws of the land, should not have any access to alcohol whilst in the course of doing so. Like most I grew up with Friday lunchtime, everyone went down the pub, but this is increasingly rare in most workplaces now, except the Palace of Westminster. Surprised some fringe group has never protested about this. Its not very clever, but I have no brain, because I am a football fan, apparently.

It is bonkers. By all accounts Starmer loves football, yet he comes across like he's never watched the sport in his life. Had season tickets at Arsenal, still plays 5-aside every week, is a genuine fan, but still speaks like Mark Corrigan from Peep Show:

Starmer, the biggest hypocrite ever. When England Ladies got to the final of the World Cup in 2023 he was all for calling for a national holiday to celebrate if they had won. Once in power and the England Ladies team had again reached the Euros final such a suggestion to him was firmly batted away.
We live in a road which is only accessible from one end. Round the corner of the end that is accessible is a pub. The road has no pavement whatsoever and is quite a narrow road. Wednesday evening people decided to use the road as an overspill for the pub car park. It meant that anybody wanting to get out of their drive didn’t have a chance. Any emergency vehicle would not have been able to get down the road either. Still Starmer is alright. Nobody is going to bother him in No.10.

Also, the World Cup is every four years. I have never watched a match at 1:00 am on a Monday in a pub before. If I'm lucky, I may have four more World Cups. Five, perhaps. So, the chances of this being a once in a lifetime opportunity is high.
And so I'll take the five minute walk down the high street to one of three open boozers near me at 11.30pm Sunday. There's no drinking when you're dead, as Paul Weller once sang (before he gave up drinking).

One of my most pathetic claims to fame is that I used to play football against Keir Starmer in the late 90s and early 00s. He played for Homerton Academicals and he was a decent midfielder, at least by our Sunday league standards. A couple of members of Groove Armada also played for them, including the bloke who rapped on Superstylin' - a decent right back.
However, I mention this more because we played Starmer's team in a cup final at Dulwich Hamlet in 2000. They hired a Routemaster bus for the occasion and raced into an early lead. All rather irritating (the bus) and worrying (the goal), but we turned it around and beat them 6-1, leaving them to slink off in their bus while we hit the bar. I sometimes wonder whether Keir recalls me lobbing the keeper from outside the box and running to the stand, right arm aloft like Shearer. Probably not.
To cap off the day, QPR won 3-1 at Portsmouth. You R'sss!!!

I'm telling myself I'll pace myself and be fine but I just know the other side of me won't let that happen.
Yet to establish a venue as the guv'nor where we've watched thus far (and previous tournaments) a bit non commital. Will find out for definete this evening and if not the back up plans sort of in motion for different pubs.

Our younger son will probably leave our local in Ewell on Monday morning around the same time I walked into it on the morning of the rugby world cup final between England and South Africa. Who knew that a bacon buttie put on by the landlord wouldn't be adequate protection against 6 pints of Guinness by 10am? We eventually stumbled out of there about 6pm as there was no point doing anything else that day.
I'm planning to stay home for the match and leave our son to it, but Sunday evening is still a way off.

It does surprise me and clearly many don't remember Japan 2002 - We went to the pub to watch matches in the early hours. Had beer, breakfast and good times.
There was no drama's, no fighting just the memories of the fun and uniqueness of that particular World Cup.
Sadly I have work on the Monday from lunchtime and drinking is not an option (unless I want my P45) so was disappointed it was not moved but hey, I will be sitting in my PJ's with a cuppa enjoying the game
