Years ago the Mrs asked If we could go and watch it so I said 'whatever' what a pile of sanctimonious SHIT. Ryan O'Neal and Ali MacGraw waffling at each other about nothing for far too long, she ends up being terminally ill in the film and I'm sat there in the pictures thinking "oh get on with it and konk out I wanna go home"
Bull shit and Top Gun wasn't much better either feel the need for speed my arse.
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Quite a few of the films mentioned on here I've got a lot of enjoyment from. Lost in translation, Nightmare Before Christmas, Shallow Grave, They Live, Antichrist, The Cook The Thief etc, Zoolander, and Twelve Monkeys.
Interesting what floats someone's else boat sinks, another - oh and I didn't mind Dunkirk either.
One film I cant stand and see as a predictable piece of mawkish kak but many rave on about is the one set in the prison with the Morgan Freeman voice-over. Streuth.
Sleuth, however, with Caine and Olivier, that's excellent.
Danny, think you mean The Shawshank Redemption, great film IMHO, by the way it’s an adaption of a Stephen King book.

I have been to the cinema only twice in 20 odd years,.
1) Spice Girls ( had to take my daughter of 10 and her mate) still receiving therapy for parent cruelty.
2) Yesterday ( last year, as my wife a Beatle fan) think the judge may accept as grounds for a divorce.
When younger( teens) went nearly every week) a kiss and a cuddle in the back row with some poor female was well worth the entrance fee, couldn't tell you half the films I fumbled my way through though.
I'm one of those that rarely watches films when they are first released, especially now we have movie channels all over the place, the majority are full of Yank crap, so if that is the diet you film buffs have to endure I ain't missed much.
The Oscars....no praise like self praise.

There are worse films but I was about 15/16 at the time it came out. Me and some lads — quite a lively group — had been drinking Friday night and decided to head to the Cinema, not sure why. Think the plan was to watch the Matrix or American Pie but they were all sold out. As an alternative, the “boys don’t cry’ film title for some reason registered with me as a bit of a violent, American gangster film I’d heard about and worth a watch. My mates looking a bit unsure agreed and paid their money. It was quite violent at times, and American but beyond that it couldn’t have been further from what I thought.
Within 10/20 minutes of watching it my mates were thinking what the f*ck have you done. As I’ve matured and grown up over the years, it’s probably a film I can appreciate a bit more, especially as it’s based on true events etc. but at the time, me and a group of rowdy teenage lads who’d been drinking most of the afternoon, this grim depiction of American transgender life was not what the doctor ordered.

Just because more people like it than like other films, doesn't mean they are a majority.
If DannyP is in a minority I'm with him. I've tried watching that film two or three times, never got far.
If you didn't get very far into it then I'm in agreement with you, not much happens in the first half. I've seen it a few times now and whilst it's not my all time favourite, it is pretty good.
I've never left a film early but, after reading rave reviews, watched half of Life is Beautiful and went to bed thinking, bag o shite. I double checked the reviews because I was convinced I'd been watching the wrong film. Decided the next day to pick up where I left off and within seconds, it turned into a completely different film. I just can't wipe the first half from my brain though so despite it's 8.6 IMDB rating, it's a no from me.
And The Lighthouse, wtf?

King of Thieves, with Michael Caine - Hatton Garden heist etc was very poor. There were 10 people in the cinema holding 200 and some muppet asked me to move because "you are in my seat."

Star Wars movies. Please. Stop. Please.
A couple of years ago, as a reward to employees, my company paid for everyone - literally, all one thousand employees - to go to see the latest Star Wars film at whichever cinema was local. It was kind of the company and I appreciated the free night out, but I really do not enjoy Star Wars. The first one was OK but now they are milking the "franchise" dry.
Other duff films in my humble opinion: A perfect storm: Dull, dull, dull. Big trouble in little China: Oh my, that wasn't funny, in fact it wasn't anything apart from a complete waste of time City Hall: I watched that on DVD with three friends. Half way through, I woke up to find that everyone else was still sound asleep. I nodded back off.
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I remember going to see the original trilogy in the old ABC cinema in Ealing with my sister. They showed them one after another only stopping for ice cream breaks.
I'm not sure I've sat all the way through any of the more recent prequel/sequels whatever they are. A community cinema near me put on Rogue One - A Star Wars Story a couple of years ago which is a kind of spin-off, stand alone story. I really enjoyed it. Absolute carnage! Felicity Jones is good in it as she is in most things.
When Star Trek 6 came out, a cinema in Oxford showed all 6 back to back only stopping for a 15 minute food and loo break.
Number 6 was being shown for the first time since the premier the day before and it was by special ticket only won in the local rag.
Anyway, we had to sit through the good, the bad and the downright crappy until number 6 came on, but it was a heck of a grind, and started at 10am...... ouch!

Mind you Ted, Hugh can act given a decent part. He's brilliant in the Undoing, if you haven't seen that (it's on Sky though but really good). I think he slept through a lot of the fluffy parts he was given after Four Weddings.
He's excellent the The Gentlemen too. Generally typecast, but not in Guy Ritchies latest.

Rogue one was really good, the best of the new ones by miles. I didn't mind Solo as well though it was enjoyable. The new trilogy was alright, quite enjoyed them on first viewing as a bit of sci fi action don't think about it too much but imagine if they ware watched multiple times you'd find a lot of plot holes and problems with them.
For dreadful films though the last film I saw at the cinema was Sonic the Hedghog and even my son said halfway through we should leave

That was my point Gazza. I knew it was popular. Though I never knew it was that popular. And now knowing it's that popular makes me realise it is naff.

i have only walked out on a film once and that was slaughterhouse rulez with simon pegg.i enjoy most of his films but that was absolutely terrible i was very drunk and was the only one in the screening.
in 2017 i was having a rough time my mate and i sat through a film called downsizing. described as a comady the only funny part was the scripts so terrible its " "kinda"funny.
followed by sausage party with seth Rogen the man should stick to smoking weed and really unfunny fart jokes 1/10 and that is being generous.
i took an ex girlfriend to see mumma mia. Only twigged it was a musical once i had paid and was inside school boy error as i cannot stand abba.
on the other hand i didnt expect much from the elton john movie. but me and my dad really like his music so i went along with him and ended up enjoying the film.

I fell asleep at the cinema during City Hall. My date elbowed me a couple of times but eventually just let me snooze until the credits.

Oh God Lock Stock! I remember being quite excited about it when it came out. I quite like a good gangster movie.
I could not believe how aful it was or why on earth people were raving about it. As you say, the acting was abominable. Just a terrible film. Baffling.
I was also really excited by Slumdog Millionaire. Not a bad film, but a huge let down.
The problem with gangster movies in the last twenty years is that every gangster speaks in the same strangled tone and is at once inarticulate, verbose and tedious.
Twenty people with guns in a warehouse by a river. Our hero sucks on a smoke.
"Wot we 'ave 'ere my friend is a classic case of entente cordiale, which, as you well know my 'umble friend can be defined as a friendly understanding or informal alliance between states or factions, and - seeing as you and your 'erberts 'ere could be accurately called a faction and me and my good men over 'ere could also be defined..."

The Lord of the Rings film where the two lads climb a mountain for four hours. Good God, no.
Oh yes, and the third one, which I guess you haven't seen, where the elvish people drift off in a boat in a romantic scene, which feels like the end of the film, and then it all kicks off again with eleventy billion more battles.

Oh, I've seen them all Nix. No choice, an ex of mine loved them and they'd appear without warning. Presumably as proof that God hates me. Or she hated me. Or both.
Ya, the elvish one was also nonsense. The huge battles were replicated in Game of Thrones and all I could every time was "where did all these people come from and where do they live? I haven't seen a house in four hours?"
