Can understand not reckoning you can build with Smyth long term but with what we're missing and 5 subs / 9 on bench you would like to think he's pretty - maybe uniquely - well suited to being a joker in the pack option. |
he'd be a good option from the bench but the club and various manages have completely dropped the ball with Smyth and not given him a chance or helped him work on his game. A real missed opportunity with him.

Local press saying that Charlton are about to exceed their loan allocation with new signings coming in this week. Doesn't say much for Smyth if he's the one they decide to release. |
Surely the question is he the one they want to release or are we interested in bringing him back which then works for both clubs, an option like Smyth on the bench could prove very useful, particularly as our bench has looked very weak recently. |  | | |

If a ball's been dropped with Smyth we're not the only ones to have done so.
Having not seen much of him play in recent years all I know is if he can only do one niche thing, then that one thing was pretty effective and doesn't grow on trees. Seems a (sensible) shame to have focused on everything he can't do instead. |  | | |
