My thoughts exactly, Dykes always on heels never in the correct position and isn't a natural goal scorer

That's complete nonsense from DMc

Sorry he's not the best for the amount of money we can afford. Take a look at the leading scorers in the championship this year and there are many who cost less than Dykes. Our scouting can be called into question.

Gyokeres, Morris, Ndiyae, Stewart all cost less than Dykes. He's well into his third season and has played more games than the others at this level. It's not unreasonable to expect him to emulate some of the above in terms of goals scored.

Even Will Keane has scored 10 goals this season for lowly Wigan.

Do any of those teams play a lone striker, with their 10's about 20 yards away and a midfield that sits in front of the back four and does n't pass the gain line?

As mentioned elsewhere, it's an interesting decision by the club to be open about it.

That would suggest we're open to selling in this window, and perhaps looking to try and drag other interested teams into a bid.

Of course, everyone has their price and we can't be picky or precious about who we keep.

Not sure what sort of message this sends to the player though, and what sort of impact it will have on his attitude. I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Step outside the bubble folks - Russell Martin speaks about 3 of their players who Swanseas have rejected bids for in his pre match.

Surprise, surprise, its not just us......again!

Not sure if he counts as deadwood but there's speculation that Gillingham are after Masterson since their loanee defender from Ipswich was recalled.

Looking at their local news they've been dubbed the Chelsea of league 2, splashing the cash. So if they do get in contact for Masterson we might be able to tempt them with Thomas or one of the others that would probably benefit from a fresh start.

Gillingham are sadly heading out of the league - can't see them having much money and Masterson wanting to go there!

They have a new chairman and are throwing cash and resources at staying in the league at the moment

Edit - part of which involved making Kenny Jackett their DoF

Look at that table!

More worryingly look at the gaols scored!

Although they are only 3rd favourites at 8/5 to go down, so you may have a point.

Can't see Masterson wanting to go the club 92nd in the league though!

Only 3 points off safety with 2 games in hand on 22nd, they bought a new striker too very recently to alleviate these scoring woes. I think they'll throw enough at this to be ok, especially with a few clubs around them in an absolute mess, not least Crawley who are going to be sucked right in as Gills start picking up points

2 new strikers actually. Played 3 of their 6 or 7 new signings last weekend and won. Think they will be safe by the end of the season.

Might be a good move for Masterson as I can imagine they will be building for a promotion push next season.

He was MOTM in the LFW match report.

Here's the source for the £31k per week. It might be wrong but who knows:

The one that makes me feel a bit sick is Jeff Hendrick. I really hope we weren't paying even half those wages if that's anywhere near true.

Also, noticed that ten of the top fifty highest earners play for Burnley. Not a great surprise they're walking the league.

Didn't we pay him nothing? Wasn't it a favour by Amit's mate at Newcastle?

Bare bones.

I doubt even Newcastle with all their cash would be paying £50k a week wages as a favour.

He's got another year on his contract after this season. Surely Reading aren't paying that much?

One thing to bear in mind is that Dykes will be out of contract after next season, unless he signs a new deal.

If we were able to get another striker or two in, I would consider selling Dykes to the highest bidder, be it Millwall, Burnley, Stoke, Rangers or another. Preferably his price will be well above £3m + add-ons.

Are you and Aston secret Gills fans?

Big turn round from struggling in L1 for a number of seasons before being relegated and falling straight to the bottom of L2

Money certainly talks down there, so you could both be right - hope so, used to work with a passionate Gills fan - she and her family will be gutted if they end up in the National League.

Not quite, it is my local team though so a couple of my mates are ST holders so I do keep an eye on them and attend the odd game when one of them can't go.

I was looking into FFP in league 1 and league 2, apparently they can spend whatever they want so long as the chairman puts it as a donation rather than a loan. Sounds sensible and means Gillingham can spend as much as their new owner wants.

If we do sell then it has to be the full cash amount, not add ons and appearance payments etc. We need the cash.

I'll be disappointed if he went as I never felt we have played to his strengths. He clearly needs someone alongside him, or the 10s very close, but we have done it enough.
I think a lot of the missed chances are because he has snatched at them as they are so rare and far between.
Wherever he goes I think he will do well.

For those bemoaning Dykes ability at £1-£2m, I was watching the £70m Havertz the other day..............while £50m got them the 1 in 6 Werner.

The only good spell he had was alongside Austin and we didn’t really make the most of them last season.
Hopefully Lowe will start alongside Dykes now. With either Roberts or Willock as a No.10 and Chair in a deeper role in midfield.

Very skeptical of how much of that £3m is guaranteed, but i would be very very inclined to sell him if we get any decent money for him

we have an FFP gap to fill, and this will partially help fill it... we're not going up or down and we have lowe, so we are basically well situated to at least stay up... keeping dykes wont have a material impact on our final position

anyone whose read the commentary on last weeks match and the impact lowe had will immediately see how much dykes cripples our attack. he is the single reason our attack is so flaccid, and it has nothing to do with his mediocre to below average goal scoring record

-he cant run behind a defense, which exacerbates our sideways/no tempo passing issue... when we play lowe, we will see how his runnign behind and into channels creates space for willock and chair to operate, thereby creating some tempo and forward thrust into our play

-he cant run at defenders with the ball.. not essential for a striker and not a skill many have in this division, but again limits us going forward and shrinks the pitch for us.... see what a difference the luton striker made by being able to run at our backline

-his skill set is aerial duels, but in basically 1 in 2 matches, the center back will have him in his pocket.... he vacillates b/w these performances, so we get the predictable "best game for rangers" comment after a random match where he wins a few headers. but totally invisible in the other half

-hes not a technical player so cant link up with the likes of chair willock and roberts in the final third...

and finally, his goal scoring record is totally average... 1 in 4 (of which many are pens) and blows hot and cold, so we have to regularly endure 7 or 8 matches without a goal

we are very quick to sack managers and pay all the associated costs... so why not get rid of dykes, who Im sketpcial will improve much at this stage.... take the money and reinvest next season

Disagree with most of that, especially claiming Dykes is the single reason we have issues in attack.

Also for those desperate to get rid of Dykes for an initial fee that is likely to be lower than what we paid for him: we would need to replace him with someone better for next to nothing otherwise an injury to Lowe or Roberts would leave us totally screwed.

amazed at the amount saying et rid of him dosnt score enough goals but when we was playing beale ball earlier in the season all of the donkey work was coming from him to allow willock (remember him) and chair space , we dont now get to the by line and put crosses in which is his game ,

how many punts have we tried from lower divisions in recent years ?

washington
kelman
bonne being the main ones
not worked out so well have they .

getting barnes in on loan prob good move but on big wages at burnley we havent got any loan spaces aval and older than dykes.

back to short term fixes again .
we arent that far from top 6 either

Still think Kelman has something and only young. Wouldn’t put him in same category as Bonne
