Is it me or are the dark blue socks (from the away kit I guess) actually quite a cool look for our home kit? ... It's just me isn't it!?

Never knowingly right.

I quite liked them as well

OK for an alternative so we can wear the blue and white hoops away, but still white socks for me at home.

Smells like a trout farm in here

We could just wear them on the left legs for a year, white ones on the right legs.
Make a choice then.

Of course, Reading would copy us instantly...

I found them...incongruous. They didn't go with the rest of the kit. Surely they should have been white or if blue, royal blue to match the hoops? Having said that, as we won against Burnley, can they now be considered as our lucky socks? Given our situation, this does seem to me to be a matter of enormous importance.

I was surprised both sides were allowed to wear white shorts.

Kit planning gone awry if neither home or away kit works against a pretty standard claret and blue. Probably Les’s fault

Agree.

Never thought of it before, but it does work. Looks smart.

No. Nope. Nah.

The home kit must have white socks.

No socks would be a bit of a laugh.

Wrong blue. Looked terrible. If they have to be blue they should match the blue in the hoops

Another vote for keep them. I liked them the moment I saw them. In fact I had this thought: that they somehow sharpened the focus of the players on the job of playing football. And I honestly think, in some indefinable way, they contributed to that victory.

Poll: Who is your player of the season?

I think refs make teams wear different socks so they can identify, fouls, trips, the perpetrators etc and also to distinguish players especially when close together especially at corners.

Also there is a theory that as a player when your head is down with the ball you can pick out your team mates by the socks.

Gullit when manager at Newcastle put them in white socks for that reason. Their supporters wouldn’t have it and they went back to black. Now I’m sure I have seen and still do see Newcastle in white socks.

Yeah, that's what I was alluding to. That it made it easier for the players to pick out their team mates. Thanks for expressing it better than me!

Yeah. That was why Arsenal changed to blue and white socks back in the 1920s.

I rather like dark socks. Sevilla's all-white kit with black socks looks really good, as did Swansea's back in the day.

If we stuck with dark blue socks it could be used as a third trim colour on the shirts. In the same way red has recently.

And the answer is......

Would the club still be using kit from three seasons ago though? And if they were goalkeeper kit socks, would they have had that many pairs for that many outfield players?

The away kit's socks this season were originally navy as shown in the last picture in this link, as are Dieng's socks with the difference being white lettering on his and gold on the outfield socks. Would it not be a pair of these?

Given our first half stats, I think we can discount that theory you mention!
