So player of the season? 19:06 - Mar 20 with 4584 viewsconnell10

Being as we are nearly at the end, I think Nardi gets my vote , poor on crosses sometimes but over all very impressive. Young Player Morgan who has be a revelation at times.

Dunne, although his drop off after transfer window has been disappointing. Nardi, also excellent first half of season. And highlighted, as he is not Begovic.

Smyth definitely most improved

Saito has been great to watch also. Nice to see a player, actually truly enjoying having the privilege of being on the pitch.

This season in particular, the players who turn up every week happen to be the two best, so a straight fight between Nardi and Dunne.

Young player of the year should probably be Morgan but you can’t underestimate Kolli’s goals in so few appearances, which not only coincided with our good run but are the difference between being mid table or sweating out a relegation battle.

The bar must be very low, if not affixed to the ground, if Nardi is deemed as being one of the highest ranked players for this season's award. Poor in commanding his 6 yard box, let alone his penalty area, poor in communicating and has been well and truly found out.

Want-away J Dunne has been average at best. I can't recall him ever overlapping in open play and putting in a telling cross, something I expect to be part of a full-back's armoury. He gets beaten more often than some will admit, wanted to leave in January and will in all likelihood do so in the summer..

Based on the above two players' overall performances being no better than average, I'd give it to Sam Field, as we are now seeing in his absence, how important a role he fulfils in this team and he wants to be here unlike Dunne.

Dunne doesn't want to be here...

Must be a different bloke who left his pint in a bar and came outside to see if he could get my lad in to the bar as heard there were a few young Rs trying to get in...then stayed out in the cold having the craic with them untold told his pint would go off if he didn't head back inside...

I've not noticed myself any signs he doesn't want to be here, unless taking an individual risk to win us 3 points in the last minute versus Leeds counts?

First half of the season Nardi by a mile, but he's just seemed off it the last 5-10 games. But who knows, nobody is really standing out as being consistently great this season which is a bit worrying.

Breaking down players limitations and then saying Field for POTS, might be some irony there

I'd go for Dunne with it not being that close. Stats and eye test, the most involved player in our defense, buildup and attack this year

Nardi, Saito and Varane honorable mentions

Says a lot about the quality of players we have that most on here think Dunne is the best we've got. With Smyth second.

God, we're crap.

Dunne, although after his comments for the Ireland call-up, it's clear he is looking for a prem move (Sheff U) and fair enough.

If you had said at the start of the season that he would score some goals and continue his RB form, we would have doubted it. Another factor is that he's been mostly fit for the season, especially when he could have phoned it off until the last few weeks.

He still busts a gut for the team, is rewarded with an Ireland callup, Wilder getting the horn for him and possibly being POY.

It would also make Norry look stupid if the POY who is below 30 left on a free.
AI your backside out of that one.

Celar...... his injury was season changing for us.

On a serious note it just has to be James Dune.
I'd go Smyth runner up.
If Varanne had mustered a few more appearances I'd have him in the reckoning.

Varane 36/42 games played, what is the cut off point for contention do you think?

Probably Dunne, Field and Smyth as they've played the most!
YPOTY Morgan, although he's been off it recently

He's not done many 90's in those though really.

It does surprise me to see that Varanne still has some detractors but I think he'll be a big player for us next season.

Are there any serious contenders other than Dunne and Nardi? Dunne for me but maybe a bit of recency bias as Nardi’s form has tailed off. Genuine amazement anyone can suggest Paal.

Dunne then Nardi with Morgan as young player of the year.

Frey has gone off the boil a bit but deserves credit for early season and when he came back from injury.

I'm another in the Jimmy Dunne camp, mainly as he has been our biggest attacking threat over the season. I'd have Smyth, another player who always gives 100%, second and Saito, third.

Young player, Morgan. A clear winner.
