I'm sure it wasn't a deliberate premeditated "attack" or anything but shocking all the same

Not surprising, I thought drugs and/or alcohol would be involved.

I have to say the paramedics, fire brigade and hospital staff did a remarkable job making sure that no one died at the scene. Some paramedic teams worked on people in position on the street for over 2 hours before moving them. Incredible job and the two badly hurt people including one child are expected to make good recoveries. Outstanding emergency team work.

Not easy getting the stats, but 2021 figures are 32000 prosecutions for drink driving and 21000 for drug driving with the latter figure rising rapidly and the former stable. You're probably gettting a ban if you're nicked DUI.

You get caught once, automatic ban for life. Hardly any would consider either choice and the roads would be safer. Harsh but would save lives The perpetrators would have to live with it and it would stop their mates from doing it at all - end of. People's lives are far more important than anyone that drives with drink and / or drugs inside them.

If you banned people from driving for life it wouldn’t save lives as the majority would carry on driving, knowing that there aren’t enough police to catch them all.And those that carried on wouldn’t get insurance so it would cost us all more to pay for the damage they’d do. Maybe there should be a life ban for serial offenders, but everyone can make a mistake once.Even a self inflicted one.

It would be easy to check that the person was in the drivers seat of a car with modern technology today. Anyhow can't stand anyone that drinks and drives or drives under influence of drugs. It's a very dangerous crime, that many underestimate. It needs something to be done about it. Too many people die or are seriously injured every day of every year. Obviously there needs to be changes in how this is dealt with. But people are generally very flippant about it, even today. It's dangerous and it can kill.

It might be easy to check, but there aren’t enough police to enforce it sufficiently,so some people will carry on regardless. Some already do it now.

Well if the culture changed gradually, their friends etc would stop these idiots from getting behind the wheel. Clearly there would be teething problems but I believe something must be done. As a kid, I lost a friend at the age of 15, due to an idiot, who had not had a massive amount to drink but it clearly affected his judgement and he simply misjudged his speed and distances. Something has to be done. It's a disgrace. I think they really need to introduce zero tolerance. People underestimate the effects on reactions etc. Even one pint should be one pint too many. It encourages some to have two or three and they say - oh thats ok, I am an experienced driver, and their friends don't say anything. It's wrong, full stop and it kills. There must be ways implemented to stop this from constantly happening. So many die or suffer life changing injuries every single day of every single year. People are way too flippant about this in this country especially. For me, its on a par with guns in America. Americans say they need them to protect themselves and in this country, the drinking culture means many still consistently break the law. Just because they have never had an accident and hurt someone in the process doesn't mean they never will. The country definitely needs seriously educating about this. Sorry to get on my high horse but I know the devastation people who do this, can create and it happens way too often. Many many times every single day of every single year !!! | Horrific scenes in Liverpool on 17:40 - Nov 26 with 1060 views | numptydumpty | Remember having chats about this and the guy was a business man, and coming from a middle class background and supposedly a happy family also. He was an ex Marine and it was suggested that when he inadvertently took the wrong route and then two or three people started smashing in his back windows and it was suggested, he could have had PTSD, having seen combat with the Marines, and could have felt under attack and threat, and the smashing in, off his windows, meant he was not in control and reacted in fear to try to get himself out of the situation. Otherwise, its not understandable. The guys extreme grief after the event for me says, it was a moment of madness, but lawyers are extremely competent, so he plead guilty. He was guilty. There could have been reasons, because its inexplicable otherwise. Fortunately, no one died. But he has paid the price, as has his family.

i know nothing of that and so dont understand what you implying. i dont mind if you dont agree but dont understand what you are saying as dont know the quote you make. PTSD does happen a lot to servicemen, but very often in general situations, can develop. Uncontrollable bouts of rage beyond what it should be. i have known a couple with this diagnosis. Its a tough one to bear. Didnt say there was any excuse for this, but this seemed to fit the reasoning as it was hard to understand why otherwise. Wouldnt myself thought it was calculated, orherwise think most of his family wouldnt have supported him throughout. But yes enlighten me on crocodiles and gays Bazz. No idea what you going on about.... [Post edited 26 Nov 19:33]

Can't begin to wonder why it was immediately erased from the headlines. PTSD or otherwise, the intent was there to either inflict harm or even worse. [Post edited 26 Nov 20:42]
