Any band/artist you really, really, like but other folk say, with incredulity “WHAT?!?!”
For me it's ELO.

What?!!!

For me its A-Ha!

Seen them live a few times over the years and they have always been top drawer.

Never knowingly understood

Sorry if this brings the level down a notch or two, and there possibly could be alternative reasons for my choice beyond musical talent, but always bring out a smile with Britney.

And she has had hard times with her mental health and problematic family relationships too, but the ultimate pop sensation for me.

Sorry ladies and gentlemen, perhaps i am a tiny bit shallow, but i like shallow myself !!!

I'm a fan of ELO, A-Ha and the Carpenters.

I have some more unusual ones though, like Perez Prado - love a bit of Mambo.

Heaven 17. Specifically the first 2 albums. Penthouse and Pavement and The Luxury Gap.

Still play those albums all the time.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Strong and stable my arse.

I have a genre let alone artist, Smooth Jazz. For me it's like soul music without lyrics.

Or Mondays?

My own favourite is Starsailor, who I’m going to see for the umpteenth time tonight in Naarwich.Their first album was brilliant, and who cares if they’re still playing it live 25 years later.

Punch Brothers. Progressive Bluegrass. Yes, really.

Status Quo. Specifically 1970-1976 (Dog Of Two Head; Ma Kelly; Piledriver; Quo; On The Level; Blue For You; Live!). What a great run, before the coke and Pip bloody Williams-produced albums.

I know, I know, I'm banned etc...

Gotta be Astrid Gilberto, any song preferably with Stan Getz.

When you reach the place beyond thoughts, the only thing you'll find is love and the only purpose of life becomes to ease the suffering of others.

It would have to be Half Man Half Biscuit - mostly for some of their lyrics and the flip side of the Back in the DHSS album credits (we may need Mr Christ for the Ashes):

Without whom ... etc....

Mathew Kelly: Housewives' favourite. Should've been a
racehorse.
Little & Large: Dismal combo who pester kids at pantomimes. Lionel Blair: T.V.'S first emetic
Keith Harris: Bubbly, bestial, boring.
Eartha Kitt: Less interesting than Araldite.
Wendy Craig: The girl with the antiseptic smile.
Una Stubbs: ... See Lionel Blair.
Fred Titmus: / * / * / * ? Nerys Hughes: Ruined acting career by wearing tasteless bell
bottoms in the Liver Birds.
Peggy Mount: Tender, caring, loving, Pipped Rita Webb to the
'Miss Carnage' title recently.
Ali Bongo: Performs all things impossible - Hell of a Guy!
Len Ganley: Godfather of Punk. Bobb Todd: Someone who did n't deserve to be on This is
your Life.
Jimmy Clitheroe: Dead; apparently.
Jesus Christ: Right arm, over the wicket.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

I get that when people ask me what football club I follow.
I’ve always liked the Bee Gees which goes for very much against the grain of what I usually like.

With me it's a look less of incredulity and more 'who the hell is that?'. Try some of the following on people (without whom, of course, we wouldn't have rock'n'roll)

Rosetta Tharpe
Bo Diddley
Ruth Brown
Lloyd Price
Arthur Crudup
Johnny Otis
Henry Byrd (Professor Longhair)

Sia - her first 2 albums are immense.
Same with Emiliana Torrini - although her 3rd and 4th are quite wonderful.
Big fan of Olafur Arnaulds.

Isn't this what was known as "Guilty Pleasures"?

As ever with threads like this, the gist of the question goes over some people's heads and they decide to flex their outre credentials by naming obscure artists instead.

It needs to be popular well-known stuff where folks say "WTF!? You like them/that???? and NOT "Eh, never heard them/their output".

I think Glenn Cambell would be mine.

Too many to mention.
Most of our friends who like their music are still living in the 70s , 80s and 90s.
Whereas I have put together playlists for the last 10 years from songs released in that year. Most of the artists are a mystery to friends.
This year's includes
Emma Jane Thackeray
Wet Leg
and HAAI

Another Olafur Arnaulds fan here. His latest work, A Dawning, with Talos (the late Eoin French) is extraordinary.

Supertramp would be one of mine. The musicianship, dynamics and tension in this piece are superb, in my humble opinion. Some strong guitar parts too.

I've never seen one musician hand a musical note over to another but that happens here, when Hodgson switches from keyboard to electric guitar and Helliwell takes over on the keyboard, the relevant key remaining held down during the changeover. Gosh!

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I bought one of their albums, but I can't recall ever playing it!

Every time I was going to, I ended up putting on The Liverpool Scene.

Camera Obscura.

Twee, unoriginal, Belle and Sebastian rip-off. All my friends hate them.

Couldn't care less. I love them.
