I'll await correction but the costs that we've felt prohibitive previously, I believe, are the need for an indoor training facility/dome (not sure if the one we use over the road at Cranford counts) and staffed accommodation block.

One of the community benefits listed on the planning application for that dome was "Supply of QPR sports scientists and nutrition professionals to support Food Technology and PE GCSE students" but Cranford rejected it as they didn't want all their students out injured for the term.

Should have added… this is absolutely fantastic news for the club.

And as the statement suggests, if ever one was needed, it further demonstrates the unrelenting long-term commitment of the owners.

I agree that it's been in the works for some time. I've posted that earlier in the thread.
Three to five years based on articles I posted.

I just have no truck with rumours, as unless we were in these meetings we don't know who voted for or against. We do know - I completely agree - that Hoos was not a proponent in public of Cat 1, but we have no idea who decided that, and who was toeing the line.

Some things cannot be divulged on here. However, by process of elimination, coupled with publicly available information as you stated, the answer as to who helped drive this - or at least get it over the line and make a concrete decision - is pretty obvious.

Edit: nourrys ego is good for some things :)

Good point re our owners. They quietly get on with financing our club as much as they can in contrast to other club owners.

Sorry, I don't agree that it's obvious, 1JD.

One of the articles I posted stated that we were going for Cat 1, and that was from 2023. Hoos was CEO then.

I agree with you that he can come across as stubborn of latevon some subjects, but if he is part of this decision (rather than being outvoted, as you say) then he deserves credit.

He’s evidently not part of the decision as he is on record for staunchly opposing it. Unless he’s had a complete about turn, which would be very unlike Hoos.

Since the training ground was complete, absolutely nothing has stopped cat 1 application. We’ve been at Heston for over 2 years. So, why now? It’s a case of reading between the lines.

I accept that that's a possibility, I just don't accept it's the only possibility.

Possibilities yes. Because the only other possibility is that Lee Hoos championed this himself. Which doesn’t really add up based on known information. So, possibilities yes, probability likely no.

I'd be interested to know which ones. I thought on my last visit everything bar the new development had been flattened now, might be wrong.

I’m sure there was talk recently about another parcel of land possibly becoming Aval close or next to the training ground , not looked at the map around the trading ground yet but sure this has been mentioned within the last 12 months or so as a possibility of us adding the lad we already have

Or that Hoos was ordered to pursue it by his bosses.
Or convinced by his colleagues at the time.
Or that he was toeing the line on a previous decison, and was in favour all along.
Or that financial realities changed (emails went out to bondholders this morning).
Or that O'Reilly swung a corporate vote after his arrival.
Or that Ferdinand leaving swung the balance.
Or that Ferdinand was in favour and his leaving prompted a review.

Or loads of other reasons that we can't begin to guess at.

As ever, we won't have to guess for long, because the truth will come out as it always done at HQ. But, for now, we just don't know.

Ok, fair enough. That said, I don’t see any of these as likely or probable. And neither do I think any of them are likely based on public information. But then maybe I am biased based on other info. Ferdinand was in favour and largely toed the Hoos line. The owners, have long been in favour. Hoos has been the outspoken one, and the leading / defining voice. It needed a new defining voice to get it over the line. Either way, we are now there. Which is fantastic.

I get what you're saying but with all due respect I'm not sure it makes sense. Hoos is merely an employee. He takes direction from the owners therefore I can't see a scenario where the owners were in favour but Hoos rallied against.

In any event, we can speculate until the cows come home. The bottom line is any planned investment is welcome news. In the words of Ice Cube, today was a good day.

I think the rumour was that we're looking at extending the training ground into a farmers field to get an accurate replica of the loftus road surface.

Cat 1. Academy Plans on 01:49 - Jan 15 with 1073 viewsLazyFan

To be clear, this is great news for reasons many have already mentioned.

But in addition to having a Cat 1, it shows the mummys and daddys of the next Messi that QPR can be trusted to develop their iccle terror, and when they go to Brentford, who is Cat 2? The question gets asked by themselves: Will the Bees really develop our little cherub into a first-teamer?

That's part of the story you need. The other part is showing progression to the first team and success beyond QPR.

Sterling (England), Eze (England), Manning (Ireland), BoS, Kakay, Kolli, Sutton, Walsh, Kelman, Dieng, Bennie, Morgan, Esq, and even Smyth coming back, so the list goes on.

This shows we mean it when we say we can take your boy all the way; we can prove it and do so.
And that's why you should come to QPR.

Also, if you're a rich Arab feeling left out, you can buy us and get us in the Prem as we have it all apart from the new stadium, which you can name after yourself once you build it. In addition, we are near a world-class airport for your private jetS to fly into.

Roll up, roll up.

Brentford applied for Cat 1 in September, Fulham have been Cat 1 for about a decade and Chel***'s academy has always been first rate if you're prepared to tolerate a bit of casual racism from Gwynn Williams and Rixy.

One of the big underappreciated positives of getting Cat 1 would be the quality of opposition and competitions it would open up, playing football league/national league sides, academies from abroad, and other Cat 1s. Means we can afford to keep squad players like Pearman and Bennie in-house and have a better quality of games for them and still have them training with the first team.

I dunno, I think thats part of the problem isn't it?
When we look at players that Chelsea let go from their puppy farm, you really want to see a 20/21 year old with ~50 professional appearances.

This is something I agree with Nourry on, there is no value in hurting a players career by keeping them in a DS too long, they need proper minutes against opponents playing to pay their mortgage etc...

Stick a poly dome on it and maybe we can get some Cat A crops too…could be very profitable.

All down to distribution, like the football.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Great news. If they can get it over the line, and there's no reason to think that the can't, it might well be the making of the club going forward. I really hope we can make this work.

The Dorse abides.

I get where you're coming from, but it's a balance. At the moment if a player is too good for our Dev Squad we have to loan them out or they stagnate, but we then lose control over the quality of training, whether they get picked, how they play - Emmerson Sutton's Morecombe experience a prime example of that, out of the team for much of it or playing RB for an absolute shambles of an outfit. He would have the opportunity to continue his development here while still playing more competitive and higher quality games of football, until the point where we find a better loan option for him. Players would also get better opportunities on loan coming from a Cat 1 as well.

I'm definitely not proposing a return to the Rafferty Pedder days, where we keep 22 year olds on our books just for the sake of it.

Ideally a loan would be within reasonable travelling distance and our player would be coached by us on one or two days a week.
