Shame - I wanted him to be there when we played them.

Marti is a good manager for keeping a team up but I don't think he is the right man to get a team promoted like Leicester who would expect to be fighting for promotion. Be interesting to see where he goes next.

With two huge payoffs in 7 months I imagine the next place he goes will be a 7* resort somewhere hot!

It's a shame it was Leicester he went to, because it doesnt really tell us much about how good he is or isn't. As others have said, bit of a basket case club, squad full of player who think they're above the position they find themselves etc... Not an enviable job, and probably better suited to a more hardass no nonsense manager.

Id guess he'll move overseas somewhere off the back of this, meaning we'll likely never see him have another crack at a comparable club in the championship and so never properly resolve the question of So Was Martí Actually Good Or What?

I read that he had to help Leicester fund his buyout. Is that true?

Leicester fans think they are a bigger club than they actually are. They had a purple patch where they won the league and FA cup but are not big enough to compete with the big clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City etc.

They have half a squad who think they are premier league quality but in reality they are not.

Cifuentes' exit means Leicester are now looking for their sixth permanent boss since FA Cup-winning Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers was sacked in April 2023 - as Clive has said many times about QPR, if you keep changing the manager with little success, the problem isn't the manager.

Shame but with no chance of buying players, most managers wont last there.

He has got a lot of dosh in the bank. Can see him managing in Spain or Portugal next - not sure he will get another crack at the Championship anytime soon....

He kept us in this division twice , the first time from a dire situation .

Agreed.

However some other posters seem to have short memories.

He did a good job with us, for all the mocking of his efforts last season we're only 2 points better off having spent a fortune last summer.

Obviously not gone well at Leicester, that doesn't make him a terrible manager, I don't think that squad they have is anywhere near as good as they think it is, am sure he will bounce back and do well somewhere else.

Seemed a decent guy. Got us out the shittu twice, left it far better than the mess he inherited, and then a fallout with Nourry; what was he going to do?

I'd happily have an Estrella with him and say 'muchas gracias'.

For me he did a decent job with us. He kept us in the league which was fantastic given the previous useless three managers without surpassing our potential.

He is probably better than many Leicester fans think but not as good as many QPR fans think he is (tippy tappy at the back and delayed subs too).

Given the choice I’d rather keep Stephan than have Marti back even if it was an option. I think he will develop players more over time.

I do wonder what today’s overpaid ego players think when they’re being barked instructions by a manager who, not long ago, was coaching in the Norwegian 2nd div.

I get that if you add value and know what you’re on about, players will buy in and day to day reputation counts for less. But there has to be at least a bit of 'who the f*ck is this guy telling me what to do?'..

Say that again............ but in a French accent

Wasn't Marti that got them relegated last year though, at one point going nine home games without even scoring a goal. Too many footballers behave like the failure of the football team is nothing to do with them.

He did seem a nice chap. Giorgio from Dublin on .org posted a pic of him smiling and shaking hands with Marti in the office entrance. I had it as a screensaver on my ipad for a time.

100% disagree. Marti had us plating tippy tappy football, 600 passes between the back 4. I think our footballnis much better now under Julien. Julien has coached in the French 1st Division taking Rennes inti Europe for the 1st time. What has Marti ever achieved?

He threw a kettle over a pub…what have you ever done ?

Shocked that a narrow defeat to Oxford was the catalyst and us so delighted to get a point there during the week.

I liked Marti but the way he went wasn’t pleasant and I do feel he designed his way out for a way better job with Leicester. It’s backfired big time and he’s yet another manager who’s tarnished his reputation.
I know lots here still love Marti but he didn’t want to be here so ‘asi es la Vida’.

I don’t mind Julien, there’s no doubt he can improve but he does get on with the job and hasn’t over-inflated his ego on everyone around him. I prefer where we are with him than Marti. Shit, it’s not perfect but I’ve had f*cking years of my club being far from perfect, so not perfect is pretty good today.

Does beg the question though, why did the players have it in for him this season, it was personal?
Why did he fall out with the board at QPR last season?
