Maybe the leadership group at the club were trying to prove that we don't need him!

If that's the case it has rebounded on them very badly.

Our recent poor performances since Cook dropped out of the side are the best argument yet for giving him another contract for next season.

Right now we would be better with Cook and Dunne at CB with Edwards in front of them.

Never knowingly right.

Got to be contract related, though IMHO dont think it would have made much difference today, only 1 goal Dunne's poor / misheader from the corner could be laid at the centre backs. Mbengue should have done better with the 1st and 3rd. Problem for me was with the ball

Yes and think i would have JCS at left back.

RND's form has fallen badly and Esquerdinha is a couple of loans and seasons away from first team quality.

Thinking more of sticking. A rockets-some of there arses to be honest mbunge hes so funny awful again today didn’t like dunne telling him so cook would have been slightly less nice Toni. In describing how bad he was for the 1st and 3rd goal

I like Cook. I also think, dreadful as it’s been recently, giving Dunne and Edwards a run together as the likely pair next season isn’t the worst thing on the face of it. Despite Dunne’s error today and Edwards at Hull, they aren’t the problem IMO on the pitch.

Doubt it’s a contract thing as he got his extra year due to the previous contract’s clause. He’s on 28 appearances (including the cup) so it’s possible but that would be unusual.

I’d have him in and have Edwards in the place of either of the wastes of space in front of the defence.

Bizarre why he's not playing when our defensive record is better when he's in the team.

It can't be another appearance clause in his contract that Nourry doesn't want to activate??

according to who scored ( https://www.whoscored.com/play

he's played 28 times in total this season - 22 starts, 6 sub appearances.

I wonder whether 30 appearances is the trigger for a new contract?

Can we not knock it?

It's a distinct possibility but if it's remotely true it was a very poorly negotiated contract, a player coming to the end of his career should not be given those options, it's a shame if true we could do with him starting and it wouldnt be a bad choice to give him another year BUT only on a significantly reduced wage.

nourry against an experienced agent , yeah my money is on the agent tying him up in knotts , so its highly likley noirrys wanted to keep cook on the sidelines had to play him then shat himself when he found he was close to having to give him another deal due to games played , there is no logical reason otherwise not to play him

The logical reason not to play him is we now have four fit centre backs: Dunne starts as he’s captain, we’ve spent a lot of money on Edwards, JCS now fit (at the moment).
Personally I’d play Dunne and Cook to stop as many goals flying in but others would put a case for Edwards and JCS: centre back is the main position we actually have options in.

Which is why I wonder we don't move to three at the back, just to try and stop the rot?

Agree. Plus... There's no way Cook will or should be here next year, so why would he be picked in our current position over two players that will, one of which being arguably our biggest investment bet in the entire squad?

Also, if we're THAT reliant on one bloke that turns 35 next month to keep 'those' sorts of performances at bay, just how weak is the rest of the team? And WTF are we going to do without him for 46 games next season?

That second paragraph is a point I keep making. What you do, is you sign a gnarly, experienced 30 yr old CB to replace Cook if you don’t renew him. You bring Field back and play him. You sign some more experience.

As I keep saying you must have balance in this league. 5 physical, experienced pros, and 5 younger “ballers” (plus your keeper). And then that needs to be reflected through the squad. You cannot build a squad with u24s, all of whom have limited experience and aren’t used to the rigours of this league. You have to create a stable environment for young talent to come into and succeed.

Steve Cook may well have left the building........

He's deleted all QPR mentions on his socials and switched everything back to AFC Bournemouth.

Well played Christian and Gawd knows what happens now with any CB injuries what with Liam Morrison out of the picture

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Finney has just pointed out that Cook's changed his X profile to remove mention of QPR in his bio. Changed the photo from a QPR shot to one playing for Bournemouth.

https://x.com/SteveCook28

The whole 'Steve Cook has been rested" official communication is exactly what's wrong with everything coming from the club. It's clearly bullsht. Now revealed as so to the fans, it must have been known as such by the players too.

So, in trying to pointlessly control a narrative, Nourry has hacked off the player and the fans, possibly the coach - who will ever know - and probably sown distrust amongst the squad, because if they treat a former captain and experienced pro like Steve Cook like this, how will they be treated?

Tell us what's happening with Steve Cook, tell us the severity of Madsen's injury, update on Chair's injury, on Burrell...there is clearly no sporting advantage being gained in not doing so, the GDPR bit was a lie as no other club toes that line. Please behave like a professional football club with tens of thousands of paying customers who were there before the current administrators and will be here long after too. Just grow up.

They could've handled this so much better, as with everything recently.

This is very telling surely of the atmosphere around the team. There's just too much smoke to suggest there isn't a fire burning somewhere that is making the club a toxic place.

Very senior players were openly discussing internal issues infront of supporters at the training ground earlier this year.

The atmosphere/respect level has been desperately poor for a while.

Yeah, just seen that on X. Wow, looks like the first of the sacrificial lambs to keep the frauds in their high-paid jobs.

He was a decent player for us - arguably we'd have been relegated if he hadn't been around. Shame we didn't get him when he went to Forest really.

What really hacks me off is that it would be a terrible way to treat any player, never mind one that was a superb signing for us, put his body on the line time after time, was a former captain and also carried us through some dreadful times.

If it is the end, I will always believe that Steve Cook is the most under appreciated player I have seen in 50 years of watching Rangers - barely even got a song and treated like absolute dirt by the club.

I’d also sign Cook for another year now, but that’s clearly not going to happen.

And I too think he’s been benched because otherwise he’d trigger a new contract.

Been a really good servant for QPR and has been really underrated but let’s all sing a song about Jon Varane.
