i watched the last ten minutes of Arsenals game tonight. Max Dowman becomes the youngest scorer in Premier League history and what an iconic goal.
Just turned 16. Debuted in Prem and Champions League when still only 15. And a last minute goal, the full length of the pitch to secure Arsenal massive goal in their search for first Premier League for so long.
Sometimes, you do recognise you are watching a moment that could be the beginning of an amazing career. Maybe, even a wildcard player at the World Cup this summer...
Appreciate not about QPR, but wow, this boy is likely to be a once in a generation talent.
He has to go back to school on Monday, as he has not even taken his GCSE's yet.

He's recognised throughout the Arsenal academy as the best young player any of the coaches there have come across. He's been fast-tracked through the age groups and has been playing with the first team squad since he was 15. They actually see thousands of the most talented kids, but not his talent.
My counter is that, injuries permitting, he will be a Rooney/Yamal-level star who dominates tournament football for England, if not at the WC then at the next Euros.

Yeah, one of my kids' friends is in the same age group (in theory) as Dowman at Arsenal and he told his parents months ago that Dowman is not just best player in the academy, he's the best player at the club. Everyone is in awe of him there. I mean, every time Eze got the ball after Dowman came on, he just gave it to him, which is a clue. | | | |

Michael Owen was the last English Ballon d'or winner quite a long time ago now.

Foden is having a bad run of form in the last year. But he's played in the PL and CL since he was 17, and at 25 he has already won:
Six PLs, One CL, a PFA player of the season award, same for team of the year, a FWA player of the year, City player of the year, PL player of year, 40+ caps, scored a goal of the season away at Real Madrid etc etc...
So, dunno. Sounds like he's done OK over many seasons?

That player would have been Clive Allen.
He was a fair bit older than Dowman was when he made his league debut & a very different type of player.

And perhaps more important than the physicality, he reacted like he expected it.
Any other kid after such an unbelievable moment with so many cheering, might suddenly feel a bit self conscious ie what have i done and where have i done it.
i hope he goes on to be an incredible player for England for many years to come but no guarantees. But does not appear to have the arrogance that a few such as Bellingham and some others have, which also i feel could be a good thing.
i hope the press, media and social media treat him well and all the sudden massive interest in him is managed well for him.
Crikey, thinking back to how i was at 16, think the immense interest from women of all ages might have done for me.

I'm also really uncomfortable with the amount of kids - actual kids - being played in adult football these last few years.
A club's first duty is to protect these children, and to develop them as people.
Exposing them to the circus that is modern-day sports at such a tender age is a huge risk to their long-term development as people. |  |
