He isn't. We invested big, by our standards, in Ronnie's potential and Burnley would be doing the same.

I would keep Ronnie at least for this season unless of course he wants to go.
He is only 23 years old and we have time to sell at a later date.
As I see it we are trying to build a team to challenge, after many difficult seasons we now have not one but two goal scorers, the goalkeeper situation is looking very promising, full back positions are looking more secure and I believe Ronnie will get better and better.
We of course do need that elusive box to box midfielder, which might make all the difference to a promotion challenge.
If we sell Ronnie, would we be able to purchase a suitable replacement who could slot straight in, centre half is a key position.
Although if an obscene offer of 15 million was on the table I might just have to have a re think. |

Absolutely. Varane. Willock. Chair. Even Austin way back. We’re terrible for him holding onto players past their best and past when someone showed interest at a good price.
If the club says it’s running a player training model, that means you seek to buy low, and sell high. If Burnley were to offer, say £9m-£10m you have to sell. It shouldn’t even be a debate. We double out money and can reinvest in a couple of positions whilst giving us more breathing room on PSR to potentially offer extensions which protect other assets.
We know we don’t have money to compete in the league, just like others before us, without selling players for decent money to add to the club’s income. This is how you do it.
The buying bit of player trading models is easy. Everyone likes spending money. The selling part is much harder. |

It was just a hypothetical scenario.
In an earlier post DavieQPR made the reasonable point that we probably have a sell-on clause with Southampton to factor in.
Also, it has to be said that RE has only played 17 games since we signed him. What did he do in those 17 games to justify a significant increase in his transfer value?
When all is said and done we probably need to raise some money from player sales this summer and Burrell on the back of a breakout season for us would probably have been the most profitable to move on. Burrell getting injured has put a dampener on that. Therefore we might now have to listen to offers for players like Edwards or Kone that we were probably hoping to develop further and sell further down the line. | | | |

I would say the issue with Sinclair was not holding on to him, but by appointing Houston as manager, who had a Premiership squad yet failed to trouble the top 6.
It's all well and good saying sell Edwards, but a decent replacement is needed. Smith and Akindineli maybe in the future, but not for this season. And JCS is unlikely to play more than 25 appearances judging by his career record. | | | |

I would think he could be first choice if signed but doubt he is the type of signing on our radar, although in many respects a similar profile to Boy Kemper in terms of age, experience, stats, but probably.more expensive.

A player ultimately is worth what a club is willing to pay for them. If they don't match the expectation of the selling club then there is no deal.
I'd personally keep Edwards for a season and see if he/we can raise that price tag....... unless silly money is offered.
Agree that we need a box to boxer which we are woefully short of looking at the squad. |  |
